One definition of a negavol is someone who claims to be Vols fan but who is incapable of enjoying the best season Tennessee football has had in almost a decade!

A secondary definition is someone who can't see the abundantly obvious progress in our program and on the field and remains pessimistic about the future.

If these definitions don't apply to you then great!!!

It's the fact that an 8- win season ranks as "one of the best in a decade" that has us angry. You talk about progress, but there has been massive regression in the SEC East since Butch got here, too. With Vandy, SC, and Mizzou(and arguably UGA) all in worse shape than in 2013. Florida has been in terrible shape since then and they still beat us and now we're looking up at them.

Then root for another team.

This has been a program that has been in the dumps for nearly a decade. We are finally crawling our way out of that wasteland and rather than being grateful you whine and complain. What do you prefer, going 5-7 for another 3 years in a row? No one goes from 6-6 to national champs. Rising from mediocrity to championships take time. As of now, we are on schedule.

We're on an upward trajectory. Enjoy the ride.

Here is how it goes.

"NegaVol" points out a FACT about how all is not well with Tennessee Football program.

"Sunshine Pumper", instead of arguing name calls and says "go root for another team".

It is this over and over and over and over.

PS:

Don't forget that Butch inherited the "worst dumpster fire ever in the history of sports. No other coach has EVER had to bring a team back from this far down...no other team has ever been this far down--ever, in any sport."

Tall Guy, I actually think it goes like this.

"Sunshine Pumper" sees this:

steady.png

and says Oh yeah! Brick by brick, baby!

"NegaVol" say yeah, but coulda/shoulda/woulda been this:

stellar.png

therefore Butch will never win anything, he's hit his peak, mark my words, we'll never win a championship with him!

And then the name calling and invitations to leave VN for other team fan bases ensues.

It really all boils down to, one side sees progress and is pleased, the other side sees the missed potential of MORE progress and is embittered, and then they fight over it.

That's really all it is. That, plus a small but active population of trolls thrown in to stir crap up.

What about those fans who are disappointed with a win? Or those who refuse to acknowledge progress? What would you call those?

This is the exact mentality I was commenting about

Nobody is disappointed in a win. That is ignorant. Nobody wishes we would have lost instead. If someone complains the score was too close or was unsatisfied with the way we played...and you think that means they would have rather lost the game...then you're the one with an issue

It means you can't stand for someone not to feel the same way as you. That circleJ*** mentality is beyond ridiculous

I'm new to Volnation the Web site(is the terminology even used anymore), but not new to being a Vol fan.

The worst was after the Florida loss, we were 2-3, with Georgia then Bama, a thread was started to the effect of....... Oh well we are 2-5 guaranteed.

For me that's a nagavol calling card, being new to all this, that blew my mind, I was offended as a Vol, that people claiming to be like me, would write off games, knowing that we had improved so much(to have a lead on Florida has been rare). To blow it or fall to pieces, (that started with manning), hurt so bad, and in the fashion it was done, a lot of blame for the blown lead was put on Butch(and that is fair to do), a few players were called out on here in such a way, it was just wrong.

At that point, I was pissed and started caling any little negative comment that was made about anything a Negavol trait. Then I called out as a Negavol for wanting the fans at the game to wear orange, then I got it, nobody wants to be a Negavol, we all have opinions and rarely agree to hardly anything, not even what fair expectations are for our team.

Like you said JP, the idea that Butch has no chance to take us to a NC. He might not be able to, I don't know, but what he has done so far, he deserves at least 1 more shot(that's my opinion).

We are on a 5 game win streak, the last time that happened was in the 1900's, no help from us, Florida is on a losing streak, I wish we had started the streak, but we didn't.

Hang in there y'all, let's win our bowl , win #6, and then, who knows what can happen.

Go Vols!

While I'm at it... I wanted to point out some hypocrisy

I saw a lot of posters making fun of Mizzou for the "Safe Space" stuff. Which is fine, it was pretty silly

Except some of those same posters are the people that try to make Volnation their own personal "Safe Space". Calling people names like "negavol" because they have an opinion they perceive is negative. Telling them to "enjoy the win" (aka telling someone how to feel) or telling them to "go root for another team" (aka leave)

The high five and pat on the back club of Volnation wants to tune out any of that "negativity" just like the Mizzou safe spacers.

The way some have stated their distain for Butch, I would appear to conclude that they would have preferred a loss to a help the process of getting rid of him. Like it would be beat in the long term to have kept losing so he would get fired and then we could find a coach that can get us all what we want.... Back to Back NC. We have Back to Back SEC Championships, now I want Back to Back NC.

My opinion, Butch can do that. I hope I'm right and I hope you hope I'm right. And when I say you, that's a you in general not just you, oversized hands.

That oversized hands was just a joke, no offense, Hulk.

Go Vols!

I spend a lot of time on the board. I don't think I've ever seen someone actually say that though. Have you?

We made progress this year, and we have a lot to build on. But, let's not pretend like we didn't leave several W's out there. Being ranked #23 or #26 in the grand scheme of things is irrelevant. We have continue to develop as a program, and next yr we need to play for the SEC title. Anything less in my eyes will be a disappointment.

Give me a break. The bashers lurk on this site and attack any thread or post that's positive about UT. I do the same thing but from a pro UT stand point.

Never seen it, but for them to get what they want(a different head coach), that's what would have to happen.

Butch will never be fired, as long as he is on this winning streak.

The next time he loses a game, I think he will be on a hot seat.

4 so far this year

Did they have nice racks?

The last time I asked that question was when a buddy of mine was telling me about a club in Alabama. His answer was no. I told him he missed the point.

Another passion of mine is to say inappropriate things, but in the proper context that makes what I say legit.

Except Alabama. And Ohio State. And USC. And all the teams we talk about that we think we should be level with in terms of prestige and tradition. We aren't rising from mediocrity. We are mediocre. Currently. Win a championship and I'll change my tune. All of the greats have done so when given the same amount of time as Jones. Next year is and will be his best opportunity to do so. The schedule lines up perfectly and Alabama will once again be reloading at some of the most important positions. He should have competed for it this year, but if he does it next year, then all his sins are absolved. All I've asked for him to do is to win the important games, and save for one, he's lost them all.

Consistency is something to look at as well. I just don't think Butch will ever get us to where we need to be. I have been consistent about that since day 1.

I have a huge problem with Bandwagon or Turncoat fans (Turncoat fans like the Dooley folks who defended him to the death until he was fired, then turned on him like they had hated him all along...we also saw that this year with some of the Butch folks---they turned on him after the Arkansas game but have since jumped back on the butch bandwagon. Being inconsistent is a bigger issue than how you feel about the coach.
