One definition of a negavol is someone who claims to be Vols fan but who is incapable of enjoying the best season Tennessee football has had in almost a decade!
A secondary definition is someone who can't see the abundantly obvious progress in our program and on the field and remains pessimistic about the future.
If these definitions don't apply to you then great!!!
It's the fact that an 8- win season ranks as "one of the best in a decade" that has us angry.
Then root for another team.
This has been a program that has been in the dumps for nearly a decade. We are finally crawling our way out of that wasteland and rather than being grateful you whine and complain. What do you prefer, going 5-7 for another 3 years in a row? No one goes from 6-6 to national champs. Rising from mediocrity to championships take time. As of now, we are on schedule.
We're on an upward trajectory. Enjoy the ride.
What about those fans who are disappointed with a win? Or those who refuse to acknowledge progress? What would you call those?
Tall Guy, I actually think it goes like this.
"Sunshine Pumper" sees this:

and says Oh yeah! Brick by brick, baby!
"NegaVol" say yeah, but coulda/shoulda/woulda been this:
![]()
therefore Butch will never win anything, he's hit his peak, mark my words, we'll never win a championship with him!
And then the name calling and invitations to leave VN for other team fan bases ensues.
It really all boils down to, one side sees progress and is pleased, the other side sees the missed potential of MORE progress and is embittered, and then they fight over it.
That's really all it is. That, plus a small but active population of trolls thrown in to stir crap up.
This is the exact mentality I was commenting about
Nobody is disappointed in a win. That is ignorant. Nobody wishes we would have lost instead. If someone complains the score was too close or was unsatisfied with the way we played...and you think that means they would have rather lost the game...then you're the one with an issue
It means you can't stand for someone not to feel the same way as you. That circleJ*** mentality is beyond ridiculous
The way some have stated their distain for Butch, I would appear to conclude that they would have preferred a loss to a help the process of getting rid of him. Like it would be beat in the long term to have kept losing so he would get fired and then we could find a coach that can get us all what we want.... Back to Back NC. We have Back to Back SEC Championships, now I want Back to Back NC.
My opinion, Butch can do that. I hope I'm right and I hope you hope I'm right. And when I say you, that's a you in general not just you, oversized hands.
That oversized hands was just a joke, no offense, Hulk.
Go Vols!
While I'm at it... I wanted to point out some hypocrisy
I saw a lot of posters making fun of Mizzou for the "Safe Space" stuff. Which is fine, it was pretty silly
Except some of those same posters are the people that try to make Volnation their own personal "Safe Space". Calling people names like "negavol" because they have an opinion they perceive is negative. Telling them to "enjoy the win" (aka telling someone how to feel) or telling them to "go root for another team" (aka leave)
The high five and pat on the back club of Volnation wants to tune out any of that "negativity" just like the Mizzou safe spacers.
Here is how it goes.
"NegaVol" points out a FACT about how all is not well with Tennessee Football program.
"Sunshine Pumper", instead of arguing name calls and says "go root for another team".
It is this over and over and over and over.
PS:
Don't forget that Butch inherited the "worst dumpster fire ever in the history of sports. No other coach has EVER had to bring a team back from this far down...no other team has ever been this far down--ever, in any sport."
I spend a lot of time on the board. I don't think I've ever seen someone actually say that though. Have you?
4 so far this year
Anybody remember this?

Edit: Last win was the Orange and White game according to this.
Another edit: Don't just look at the "L's", look at the scores too. Fugly. New years bowl game doesn't look so bad.
Except Alabama. And Ohio State. And USC. And all the teams we talk about that we think we should be level with in terms of prestige and tradition. We aren't rising from mediocrity. We are mediocre. Currently. Win a championship and I'll change my tune. All of the greats have done so when given the same amount of time as Jones. Next year is and will be his best opportunity to do so. The schedule lines up perfectly and Alabama will once again be reloading at some of the most important positions. He should have competed for it this year, but if he does it next year, then all his sins are absolved. All I've asked for him to do is to win the important games, and save for one, he's lost them all. Then root for another team.
