Haha

Remember when I said last week every coach who can will use all these openings as an opportunity to get more money or facilities they want?

This is how the game is played.

Makes me think him leaving might not be so preposterous.

I give it a 10% chance the "noise" has really gotten to him and his family and he looks for a quieter place to coach with less competition and pressure
Jones doesn't like the pressure, he appreciates the fan support but doesn't like the other side and after the loss to Arkansas this year it really got to him. I don't know this as fact but from what I understand Barb Jones isn't happy in Knoxville and wants out. Do I think Butch Jones will leave? No but it would be foolish to think it wouldn't happen given the circumstances. He's not happy from a personal stand point and it shows, he is happy from a football stand point though. So which out weighs the other? I think Jones is a great mid level coach who is growing his way into a good SEC coach if he can hang in for a little while longer.

Yeah...Nashvegas..did you nit read the part where I said "Mason sucks as a head coach, but boy can coach some defense"?? Anybody that doubts his ability as a DC after his body of work at Sranford or Vandy is an idiot. I don't care who recruited the defensive players at Vandy, they were and are not blue chippers. Mason has done a lot, with very little defensively. I would love to have him as a..DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR. I would like to see what he would accomplish with a team full of high 4* and 5*

With a large fan base, you are going to have a spectrum of fans. When things are going badly, it pushes the spectrum toward the negative. When that happens, the most negative on that spectrum--mixed with the right amount of stupidity--will do really, really dumb (and often illegal) things. People get threatened and assaulted, trees get killed, etc.

Now this group I'm referring to is very, very small, but it doesn't take many to realize that some take this game more than a little too seriously in a bad way. These types sour the game for everyone, but I can especially see it souring things for coaches, players, administrators and the families of those groups.

I would like to think no one on VN would be so stupid, but it wouldn't surprise me if a very, very few did. One thing that bothers me is the way some people show their disapproval. Being critical is fine, but being a jerk (or worse) only reflects upon yourself and, sadly, those around you. Be mindful of how you display your emotion (probably preaching to the choir in this thread).

Sorry for the mini-rant.

If this is true that he would take a lesser job, then I have to agree he is not the right coach for Tennessee. You have to eat, drink, and live football to succeed on this level. If he doesn't have it in him, then he needs to go coach back at a weak school and program. Can't be a ***** and win championships in the SEC.

So Mrs Jones is unhappy in Knoxville but is considering Blacksburg, Va.

Sounds legit

There are idiots everywhere. Even in Blacksburg. What is rumored to have happened to them is a crime. You can't run from stupid. It's everywhere.

What if he does indeed eat, drink, and live tennessee football but his wife says otherwise???

I have seen nothing to suggest butch jones himself isn't all in for knoxville.

Now does all in mean trumping the families wishes?

I just find it hard to believe that Butch would leave before seeing the fruits of his hard labor be realized next season. And anywhere you coach there is pressure and expectation, hence the MANY coaching positions opening up. I hope it's not true that his wife is unhappy here. Insiders need to do a drive by:)

Closer to D.C. so more idiots IMO.

Allegedly lives threatened after Arkansas loss but no one arrested yet.

Do we have an ongoing investigation?

Find it hard to believe that if it were true it wouldn't be the lead story on ESPN and every news station. It has only been rumored.

Not something cbj would want public. Would be bad PR for many reasons
Vq confirmed the rumors

Whatever...I'm already over this. If Butch does leave for a job that's less pressure, then bye bye! And if, big if, he does, then he goes against everything he's been preaching to these young men about resiliency, mental toughness, etc, etc.

I still don't think he leaves...I agree with volatil. This is all being said and done by Butch's agent to get an extension, more money, field turf, or a combination of all of them.

Yep.

10% of any sufficiently large population is completely out of their minds.

It does not excuse death threats, but it happens everywhere. Even Va. Tech.

That said when was the last time a coach or their family was physically assaulted? These threats are people acting out behind the anonymity of a keyboard. I'm sure it still hurts those that are threatened but you can't live in fear of that kind of stuff.

Maybe she just needs a former gator WR to hold her close.

Calling Mr. Jacobs..........

I agree you ignore the threats but when it's to your kids or wife the ability to do that changes dramatically
