Win next week, and I will be very impressed with how this team stuck together when times got tough, and grinded and fought for five wins in a row. Could it and maybe should it have been better? Absolutely. However, I don't care what anyone says, we still have a fairly young team, that has overcome a TON of adversity and injuries. To win 8 in the regular season with all of that is huge progress. Next year, absolutely no excuses! Lose to Vandy, and all of what I said goes out the window.

Some points from me tonight.

1) Entire defense played almost perfect, besides one drive when zoo scored

2) Special teams kept Missouri pinned back deep the whole night

3) Hurd played very well and got a new career high, but there are a few runs I wish he would've gone north and south

4) Kamara is consistently solid

5) OL was a mixed bag, I saw some good but a lot of bad as well

6) Passing game is a mess and MUST be addressed this off season. It really has not been good all year.

Overall it was a good win. I was pretty nervous about this one, but our defense completely controlled the game. Offensively, we ran well and did some good things. The biggest concern for me is Dobbs passing ability and the WRs ability to get open. Some major adjustments will have to happen to be SEC champions next year.

I usually like to do a post game thoughts post, but I am on all fours with this.

Would add that I absolutely loved the physicality and intensity the defense played with on such a cold night, and also hats off to Medley for a really good performance in that same cold weather. Can't be easy to be freezing cold on the bench and then come in for pressure kicks.

Very satisfied with the win last night. Defense dominated, we ran the ball better than I thought we would. Cash in a few of those fg's for td's and it woulda been a straight beat down.

Our losses weren't really on the injuries though...

Maybe, maybe not. I assume your point is that we should have won a couple of games in spite of injuries, and I get that. We were right there, had a shot, and couldn't finish it out. It was very tough for everyone who loves UT (most of all the players and coaches, I'm sure).

But if Maggit and Gaulden are playing in the 4th quarter against UF and OU, does one of them make a play on a crucial 3rd or 4th down to secure a win for us? I think it's very possible. If Marcus Jackson (probably one of our top 2-3 O-linemen) is in the game, does he pick up a key block that allows us to move the chains just one time in one of those critical situations? I think it's possible. Could North or Croom have helped us be a little less one dimensional in those situations if they're healthy? Maybe. But none of them were healthy. If only one or two of those guys had been out, I think we find a way to win to win an extra game or two this year, I really do. But we just don't have the depth to be able to overcome key injuries yet, especially when those injuries really piled up on us.

My point was re: year 1 at Florida for Mac versus year 1 at Tennessee for CBJ. Mac inherited more talent, played a much weaker schedule, beat some bad teams and scraped out a few lucky wins as well. The luckiest was versus us.

As for Florida 2015 versus Tennessee 2015, I agree. Without Grier their offense clearly isn't equal to ours. Overall I think they are playing a lot more juniors and seniors than we are.

Color me unimpressed with Mac. That performance yesterday is on him. His team had a bad attitude because of him. He needs to own responsibility for the culture of his program. I wouldn't be surprised if they went 8-5 or worse next year.
Anytime you go 10-1 and play in the SEC you've accomplished something regardless of the circumstances. Is McElwain the next great FL coach? Who knows, but you have to respect what he's done this year. My OP had more to do with his press conference. He was very honest. He called his players out without totally throwing them under the bus. And he wasn't happy with the game and didn't come into the PC confrontational saying he wasn't going to apologize for a win.

I'm pulling for Michigan to hate crime Ohio State this weekend. Wouldn't care except that last offseason showed that Buckeyes fans are the most insufferable fanbase out there...and yes, that includes Bama! They beat Michigan and their bowl opponent (if they miss the playoff cut) and there won't be any entitlement dropoff. :pinch:

Oh how I hope Michigan gives Urban a reason to quit again.

How many SEC teams does everyone think would beat Iowa? I'm gonna say everyone except Ky, Mizzou, Vandy, and USC would blow them out. I'd call it toss up with those four.

Very true. Playing good defense and running the ball with success is the formula for consistent winning.
Going to be nice going into the off season having the Mlb position locked down. Think that really hurt us this year especially in the early games. Kirkland is a beast.

Hypothetically speaking, would you rather have the playing style we have now, or would you rather play like Baylor (all offense, no defense)?

Got to have that D for the SEC to win consistently. Florida this year is a good example. They hid behind that D all year and won 10 games.

With a full roster this team will have offense and defense and will be a better team than what Baylor is now. I would've liked to have more TD's than FG's but this team won with a good game plan against a great D that had a bad O supporting it. With no TO's and solid field position, it gave this team the highest chance of winning. Their O was weak and our coaches put it completely on the D to win and it did. If we commit a multiple turnovers in our own territory, that would've been the only way we would lose this one. They made sure that the possibility of that happening was very low. Good game plan regardless if it was the most pretty one or not.

Kirkland is one of the most talented defensive freshman I have ever seen. Gets to the ball is a hurry and with bad intentions. Very instinctive. Knack for taking ball away.

If Maybin comes back we will have the best front 7 in SEC east next year.

I've seen TN linebackers that arrive with a bad attitude but I don't think I've seen one that arrives with an attitude that quickly. He fast.
