Well, it's both. But surely if you are running an offense that relies on speed, your own field shouldn't negate your speed the way ours has of late.

Yes. It's not just offense but personnel too. A sloppy field negates UT's speed advantage against teams like USC and North Texas. Everybody has to slow down, which favors the slower team.

I'm just not sure this is the case. Everyone was slipping out there. I saw our lineman and Hurd slipping just as much as the smaller quick guys. In fact, you could argue just the opposite. Kamara, our smaller and quicker back just about doubled Hurd's production this past weekend. I wanted to see more of Kamara being used in the game because it definitely wasn't hurting him any. I just think sloppy field conditions hurt everyone's production because of the uncertainty of the footing. Olinemen can't drive their blocks, backs can't cut, wr's can't break off their routes, etc. And that is if we are only talking about the negative effects on the offensive side of the ball.

Now you throw in rain with a sloppy field and that's a different story...

keeping a grass field at Neyland, imo, is a bigger deal long term than having CBJ as the football coach - so if the reports of him pouting publicly because he wants field turf and can't get his way are true, then he can take that shtick on down the road back to the AAC.

I like Top Button Jones, but this whinyness over the grass is pitiful. How about he focus on having his team mentally prepared to win football games (which has clearly been lacking the last two weeks).

I have heard my whole life that sloppy fields lessen talent advantages to a degree. It makes everything more of a tossup. Like if a guy just gets lucky enough on any particular play, to get firm footing on a cut. At least that is the way I have understood it. I always thought I formation, heavy, straight ahead offenses had an advantage in sloppy conditions over finesse teams.

Anyone seen an update of Zach Stewart, still looking to enroll and how he has been able to stay in shape? Just wondering if he is on pace to physically be ready

If he is reporting in January he will be perfect depth for G now that he has sat out a season. Big, tough guy.

Wait...keeping a grass field is more important than keeping a coach that is building your program? If he is successful here, that is THE biggest long term deal.

They do. Teams that run motion, misdirection, traps, and use speed angles tend to do worse. Which is what UT does. Explains Hurd's difficulties at home IMO.

Coaches will come and go. Switching to field turf just because one of them is pouty is the wrong move on literally every level. I applaud Hart for putting his foot down, and chastise Butch for taking his ball and running to tell mommy (the media) - again, "if true."

Is Bruin's post now a report?

If anything, CBJ is just relating the frustration from the players about the field, I don't think he is advocating for turf. JMO.

I think a lot of older UT fans hate the idea of artificial turf, because the turf field we had before was pure crap. They don't understand the advancements that gave been made.

IF its because he's being pouty, that's one thing. Something no one has any proof of, btw. Switching because the field is absolutely ****ing terrible and borderline dangerous is another.

I feel ambiguous about that. Football has changed. Right or wrong, like it or not. It is a different game than I grew up watching.

Fwiw I do have an opinion that if jones wants turf or he else then by all means let's get turf

My sons in-laws are part owners of a turf company that does a lot of work for NFL, college and even HS teams. They are doing more and more business.

I sure as heck never thought turf in Neyland was a big deal growing up.

Thought our players were fast. Funny thing though, people wanted a change in the 80's- early 90's because of injuries.
