@Volquest_Paul: "Right now we fully anticipate everyone being ready to go… Preston Williams has practiced." Butch on injuries.

Getting Robertson back is huge. A lot of guys are touting Jones over Crowder, but I'd like to see them both sit. Jones needs cooking time. His experience this year and another year in the training facility will go a long way for him.

Wiesman and Robertson at guard is the way to go right now. /opinion.

Hubbs said this morning that Jones needs to work on his overall strength and that it had become more noticeable in practice and games as the year has gone on. Hinted that a RS would have helped him a lot, but injuries forced him to the field.

Hubbs has talked about his strength lacking sense August.

Redshirts are able to lift for gain so much more than kids playing because they lift to maintain.

Agree. Wiesman has looked very good at guard, especially in run blocking.

You would think these kids that KNOW they are going to be playing in the meanest dog fightin pit conference in CFB would..you know..maybe work out a lot more, so they don't come in looking like playdo. I realize they can't go super crazy with it, but come on.

It's not just strength. He needs time to figure out his position as well in my opinion. Yes, the injuries forced him in there, and that's why getting arguably the best o-lineman on the team back in Robertson is huge.

I'm not sure you can say the same for Hall. He wasn't ready early on, but it was more the lack of tackles on the roster that forced him into action. He's been really good for a true freshman.

Jack Jones is a true freshman. It is not unusual that an acclimation period is needed for those transitioning from high school. They are not playing against 15 and 16 year olds now and it takes time to grow and get stronger. It is usually easier for a freshman contribute at a "skill position", and more unusual to see a true freshman lineman play early.

Surely you aren't suggesting jones wasn't working hard to be ready??

You realize there is a significant difference between an 18year old and a 22year old when it comes to natural strength?

He has a chance of being 11-2 and they are talking about his job?

This is crazy. Every team thinks they can do better. Let Saban lose to Florida or God forbid Ohio State again and those idiots will be saying it.

I promise I will never complain about 10-2, 9-3 seasons again. We learned our lesson.

This. Please let us never be the type of spoiled fan base that complains about 9-3 seasons ever again. I was one in the early 2000's that thought an 8-4 season was awful. I could never have imagined how awful things could get. If Butch gets us to consistent 8 to 10 win seasons year in and year out, please do not complain!

There's a lot to be said for the structured workout schedules and the meticulously planned nutrition these guys get once they get on campus. There's a reason why schools spend so much on facilities and expertise.

High school kids come in strong for high schoolers in their high school programs, but to work toward that NFL-level S&C, you need professional assistance.

I think these kids do work toward it as much as they can, but it's more than lifting heavy three or four days a week and eating peanut butter sandwiches. Along the line of scrimmage is where you need the most strength so that also puts their strength needs further ahead than other positions.

Yeah I know..that is why I said " I realize they can't go super crazy" but some of these kids come in from HS lookin like men already. I remember particularly seeing Jack this summer and thinking, "this kid hasn't worked out nearly hard enough"...he will though.

I love Jack Jones by the way. He is going to be an all time great by the time he leaves barring catastrophic injury IMI. I just wud ge had been able to RS and work on getting strong.

I get what you are saying, but I would say the field being played on by both teams negates any advantage. The advantage should come from the venue, not necessarily the grass on the field.

Well, it's both. But surely if you are running an offense that relies on speed, your own field shouldn't negate your speed the way ours has of late.

Yes. It's not just offense but personnel too. A sloppy field negates UT's speed advantage against teams like USC and North Texas. Everybody has to slow down, which favors the slower team.

IMO he should be starting next year. He's been that good. Here is my projected o-line for 2016:

LT - Richmond
LG - Robertson
C - Thomas
RG - Wiesman
RT - Hall

Next 2 up: Jones and Boulware

The middle of that line would finally start looking SEC from a starting and depth standpoint.

Still need tackles, tackles, and more tackles. The depth there is still scary. Kendrick should be OK, but I'd feel better with at least one more viable option.

And of course a backup center. I would think you'd train Robertson as the backup center and slide another guy into guard, but there are at least options there.

That's was an opinion I was wrong on and have already eaten my crow.

How many times does one have to say they were wrong before it keeps being brought up?

You're on the end of A LOT of those Bruin. No problem with it, but you can't get all sensitive when people respond to you like they've seen it before. :hmm:

Haven't seen a negligible strength advantage with Crowder...seems like more bad guys in the backfield than when Jones was in.

For those just catching up, we're having a semantic argument about what exactly the word "ruins" means.

The next big discussion is "Turf Management: Who Screwed Up, And Who do We Fire For it?" With bonus features, "Way Back: The Grass Didn't Used to Be This Way" and "Way, Way Back: Turf Was Just Fine When I Was a Kid."

I bet this guy could do wonders with our turf. Probably help with recruiting with his custom strains.

Any word on if maybe Marcus Jackson seeks a 6th yr of eligibility? Sorry if its already been discussed

Anyone seen an update of Zach Stewart, still looking to enroll and how he has been able to stay in shape? Just wondering if he is on pace to physically be ready
