Nicholas was hallucinating, saw what would happen to them both if he shot himself with the bullet he doesn't have, thanked Glen for snapping him back to reality, Enid shouts "up here!", Glen fires the flare gun, they get to the staircase and Enid locks them all in with the 2 billion keys she has. That's my theory.
You guys are over thinking this. It's the Walking Dead, not the Godfather. Glenn is alive. We all like Glenn. Who cares about realism in a show about a freaking zombie apocalypse.
3 things. Up where? What staircase? It's been 2 days, in this theory he would have fired the flare gun already and the group would have seen it.
2 days? It's only been about 8 hours.
There was a fire escape staircase in the alleyway.
As for a flair, I didn't think he had one. He said the they would see the smoke from the fire he went to light.

those sewer walkers were sweet as hell honestly. best part of the episode.
Ill give you an absolute because Ive been dealing with a lot of ambiguity in storytelling here in protecting the story: Ricks hand is safe, Gimple told The Hollywood Reporter. You can proclaim it from the mountaintops: His hand is safe! He will be wrapping it. There will be some ointments involved.
"You know, I campaigned two seasons ago when the Governor was around... I was saying, 'You've gotta do the hand guys!' And Victor, who was in charge of special effects, just said, 'No, no no no. Anybody else but not you. It'll cost a fortune with green screen and blue screen,'" Andrew Lincoln told ComicBook.com.
'The Walking Dead' Season 6 Spoilers: Rick Is Definitely NOT Losing A Hand This Season
I've been thinking here... There is very little point in going through all of this with Glenn if he's really dead. They've never teased a major death like this before, they've just killed the character and that was it -see Herschel and Beth. On another note, why go through all this drama only to have Glenn survive tobe later killed by Negan? Does the Negan character still work within the story if he doesn't kill Glenn?

Apprently, the earlier report of Dillahunt being cast for Negan was wrong. He's getting a role along side of Negan. The smirking bastard who actually gets the role is even better suited for it.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan Will Play Negan On The Walking Dead | UPROXX
One of my least favorite episodes this season; the Morgan back story was much better than this. Unless the writers have a wild card to play, they've total backed into a no win regarding the plight of Glen.
Also...if they just casted JDM as Negan we probably won't see him til next february.
He's supposed to appear in this season's finale.
So not til the end of spring next year.
