Missouri Players Go On Strike (merged)

They will play our game. It will be negotiated so that no one loses. Will the President depart maybe but not immediately. Too many fines will be levied against the University.

Should be resolved before the BYU game. I am sure that the President and Staff will exercise some type of withdrawal of scholarship if they don't play.

President will more than likely resign at a later date, because this is a hostage type event.

The underlying issue will come to the forefront eventually. This is a self inflicted wound and should be treated as such.

What's more the hunger strike is what it is and it takes practice to pull it off. They may end up arresting him and forcibly feeding him through IVs.

Make them forfeit the game and allow another week for our injuries to heal. Just glad this is not a home game for us.

Now as far as that kid not eating, I can't get on board with that. Jeapordizing your own life doesn't prove a point. Losing anyone to death is far worst than anything for family and for friends. As I have lost a few to suicide, and by not eating, that's what he is doing. You can be bigger than someone's words or actions.

This is a political war started by fringe groups and backed by the governor amd Pinkel. Nothing more and nothing less. It's mainly because of the healthcare and planned parenthood issues there....that's the real story.

This is a political assault led by Pinkel and company....

Remember? He drummed up the Michael Sam issue and exploited that as well! Pinkel is a thug......

Encouraged by Al Sharpton and Obama.

Right or wrong, it will cost Pinkel down the road.

Down the road?

Should be fired by closing time today if he hasn't got his team on the practice field for insubordination.

Funny, gutless, part of this is they aren't going to practice until the kids stops his hunger strike. That really accomplishes nothing. So now all the pressure is on the kid to stop the protest. I guess they have themselves covered of the kid doesn't stop protesting they can go back to football when he starves himself to death

Before we had the video cameras on cell phones and racism was being brought out I have experienced some crazy stuff in Knoxville. I love love love Knoxville before I say what I am going to say. And the views and idiotic decisions of the small amount of people does not speak for the majority In Knoxville which are wonderful people. I say this because I can relate to the players. There is double standards sometimes in th south. I can't tell you how many times I have been called the n word by some fans at our own stadium, got horrible voicemails and notes from various people. We went to a high end restaraunt once and were not allowed in, of course until people recognized who we were, then they just so happened to have a table for us of the many empty tables. At that time I was with 2 other very prominent members of our team that was my race. This stuff is real. Peaceful protesting like the team is doing is good. I don't know what is going on, but I am
All for peaceful protesting. Don't love me when I am playing football and shun me when I am not. That's the players point of view.

Thank you, you see some of the vitriol on this site just in THIS case, and it makes you shake your heads, in the 60's and 70's Campuses all over the country were the hotbed for social issues, now if you speak out you are called entitled and dumb, SMH makes no sense, these young men and woman have every reason to feel this way and choose freely how to peacefully demonstrate their displeasure with the administration for overlooking and being slow in acting in how they handled the issues that led to this situation anyways....

Ok, parties we segregated by choice. Just like most churches are segregated by choice.

I can't make you attend a white frat party no more than you can make me attend a black one

When we get called to do extra duty at black clubs, its not because we are made to be there, its because the business owners, who are black, hire us to be there.

Do you think that these frats might have asked the cops to be there because of problems on the past?

We have a historically black university that hires extra duty officers all the time because of issues with a small percentage of students on campus. Most of the ones that come in, don't attend, but are associated with people that do. Should we not assist when the school asked us to because it might make people uneasy?

I also I didn't figure you would answer the question. It doesn't fit the racism spectrum you've been taught through the years. It's OK though

It's not as worse as hearing other black people call black officers Uncle Tom, Sell out N, and many other things just because the don't tow the line

"White" frats at UT definitely hire cops. I also got asked numerous times to show ID on campus. The reason why people don't remember it is because we don't take offense to it

Statistically in the United states, black people are more violent. I'm not naive or racist enough to believe that it's by nature of black people being black. That's dumb and asinine. I do believe it's a deep seeded culture issue that needs to be addressed and many African Americans have identified this but when they point it out they get called uncle Tom and house ****** by the black community as a whole that's been indoctrinated by the left to believe they actually care about the issues surrounding the African American community.

Statistically white people commit way more rape, child molestation, assault, burglary, larceny-theft, auto theft, arson, property crime, forging, fraud, embezzlement, oter sex offenses, drug abuse violations, dui, etc.

Black people do commit more murder. But by your reasoning I guess white people are rapists, thieving, embezzling, child molesters.

https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2013/crime-in-the-u.s.-2013/tables/table-43

Black people commit 90% of crime against black people.
White people commit 88% of crime against white people.

A white person is way more likely to be victimized by another white person. Same with black people. Stop trying to act like black people commit most crime and most against white people. Its not true. The right has latched on to the murder rate, which is terrible. That is only one component to crime in the US though.

Black crime rates have nothing to do with culture. Its socio-economic. Poor whites and blacks have similar crime rates. Affluent blacks and whites have similar crime rates. In the US there is a huge wealth gap between the two communities.

Pinkel has lent the whole team's support and refuses to hold practices until this is resolved.

Then he should get the boot. I will be the first to say that there is no room for racism in this country but some people will continue to be prejudice sadly. With that being said, Coach Pinkel is getting paid to coach football. Completely unfair to the players that want to participate.

Ur right. We do. It doesn't make it ok that we say it either, because we are promoting it (edit to what makes more sense)I don't like the word at all. On the other hand when you call someone it in a derogatory way talking down to someone it hits harder. Especially when some calls you slave boy or after football u can pick my cotton n*gg*r. Now that is not ok. U won't get a job because your a n***er....some of the nicer bad things I have heard at my stadium and after LSU best us

Thanks Travis. Needed to be said.

How have the players been affected? They are probably treated better than any one on campus...

They have it better than most of the student body, sure.

My point is that it's pretty significant to see them use their privileged status to actually effect a change they believe in.

You watch, they've backed the Board into a corner. That President will be gone and the Tigers will play BYU.

Your points are not invalid and, in fact are extremely relevant. Why do you think it is that way? Could it be that the average black child is born into a worse situation than the average white child? Could it be that the average level of education offered in predominately black neighborhoods is less than what than what the average white child receives? There is a systemic problem and we have to figure out how to solve it. Bussing wasn't the answer, but the problem continues to grow.

There have been studies done that show that when seeking employment black applicants need to be significantly more qualified than their white counterparts. I know this will start a whole crapstorm about AA, but if that is taken out of the equation (which it is in most job application settings) then a less qualified white male will garner more attention from prospective employers.

There was one particular study done where resumes, which were substantially the same, were given to prospective employers in response to an ad. The one difference was the name. One resume was "Becky Smith" and the other "LaShonda Roosevelt" (these aren't the names used in the study, but you get the idea). Becky was significantly more likely to get an interview than LaShonda. Whether you want to admit it or not racism still exists. It's not as blatant, but it is there.

Preaching to the choir. Even if they fire the president, they should double up with Pinkel. Fire him, for cause. He should've made a supporting statement and left it there. If he gets through this unscathed, lots of copycats at far more liberal universities to follow.

Other far more liberal universities that also are having issues with public displays of racism and ineffectual leadership? This doesn't sound like the kind of thing that people are just doing for the hell of it.

They've got a real problem up there and addressing it sounds like a bigger deal than a football game or 2 of a losing season.

If the coaches didn't "support" the team they'd be labeled racists and the pitchfork and torch mob will want their heads as well.

But the entire team does NOT support the protest. I teach at a university. I do not have the right to suspend my classes just because a portion of the class is boycotting. I teach if there is 1 person attending my class.

If that labels me as a racist, I live with that.

The short answer to the problem is fix the culture in the black communities. The root of the problem dates back to the rise of the Black Panthers and other groups that wanted to reject everything that they saw as White America. That included their names, they way they dressed, and education.

It's going to do more than destroy recruiting. Businesses are going to be hurt, top faculty won't work there and top students will go elsewhere.

Also this adds to 0s "SJW insanity legacy"

You need to get some of that hate out of your heart. You are blaming Obama for this strike at Missouri, unbelievable.

My Bible teaches Christ is about love not hate. I am sure your Catholic Bible teaches the same thing. Your Pope definitely teaches love.

How can one be a devout Catholic as you portray yourself to be and live with that much hate in their heart for anyone with a D beside their name?
