Missouri Players Go On Strike (merged)

Think back 100 years. Racial prejudice was basically socially accepted. We had segregation as law

So African Americans lived in communities, together, away from white folk.

They had worse schools and thus worse education.

I won't even get into the other things, but essentially, segregation only ended 51 years ago. It will take a few more generations to mend the effects segregation had on black communities.

So yes, while the same barriers may not currently exist for African Americans today as they did 50 years ago, there are still some very significant after effects that have not totally faded.

So, what is the reason for all the poor, unfortunate people of other races in this country?

Poverty and poor living conditions isn't just the plight of black people in America

Life isn't and will never be fair

It hasn't been fair to me and probably a lot on this board

No matter the reason for it, Gary Pinkel just made College Football a weapon and pointed it at the school's president. Any university president who's school has a major college football program will now see the program as a potential threat to their regime. Most will be too good of a politician to stand idly by. They will work to neuter that threat. The only way to do that is to either shutdown the program or have it spun off into a separate entity.

lol, you can't be serious? Money motivates everything...and college football is a big money business. At this point they have pretty much proven that years of high level football turns your brain into scrambled eggs and we still trot out little sluggers out there to play.

When college football stops making big money is when it will go away, and not a minute earlier

I despise racism, but I despise fascism even worse...American freedom is becoming an illusion. Hatred is wrong, but it is not cool to force tolerance. Mainly because tolerance only goes one way. Fundamentalists are next..."The university president is not doing enough to get rid of homophobic fundamentalists." I can see it coming.

I have worked with several Africans who came here for college and later took professional jobs. They came from countries where you boil your water every day, civil strife is the norm, starvation is the norm, corruption is the norm, totalitarianism is the norm. They had excellent work ethics and were some of the best people to have on your projects. They came from conditions far worse than anyone over here can complain about. Those are just a couple guys from one place, others come to this country from similarly terrible places. Why is is they can overcome their surroundings and achieve things, while those here cannot? They were as black as any black person born in the US, yet they someone managed to overcome all the discrimination and prejudice by simply doing good work. I also worked with black employees who came from HBCU's, who knew they were "diversity hires" and were absolutely worthless to work with. They did nothing, because they knew they were bulletproof. They would never be fired, never be reprimanded, could do little or nothing and be promoted the same as an outstanding employee. There are lazy people of all colors, but blaming your lack of success and drive on your skin tone is about as lazy as it gets.

Really? Who do you work for? What college president is going to hire you? Fire his stupid tail. It is one thing to vocally support a cause like this, right or wrong. But he was hired and is paid big money to coach football, not try to get his university president fired. This is an all around horrible precedent.

I'm not saying college football goes away; I'm saying it will morph into something akin to a professional league that is only loosely affiliated with its 'host' university.

The academic side will like it because they finally get the athletic department out of their university. The athletic department will like it because they get tired of having NCAA compliance officers up their butt 24/7.

The game will go on, but with a much different dynamic.

It is the very fact that so much money is at stake that the split will come.

Dr. Ben Carson, getting mocked for being a successful black man and called an Uncle Tom, is all I need to base my opinion on these liberal Social Justice groups

These same people talk about racial inequality and racial slurs against blacks while in the same breathe, call someone an Uncle Tom or worse, a white man's ________ for not towing the line

Hypocrisy

I've long advocated a NFL sponsored semipro league..the schools could still play but get athletes like FCS level..would get the money and corruption out but it would still be competitive

You aggregate too much.

Nobody has ever said in the history of ever that poor living conditions is only the plight of black people. The fact that you would imply that is absurd. How could you possibly render that from what I or anyone else ever said?

You aggregated earlier by saying that "they" (whoever they is) believe every white person is born with a silver spoon. No, nobody believes that. Literally not one person.

Life isn't fair, that is correct, and it is even less fair to others, white or black

Statistically, blacks are poorer than whites in America percentage wise and it isn't really close. That is factual and we can prove that. So, I ask you then, why does that occur?

Do you believe them to be genetically inferior to whites?

Or perhaps it could be socioeconomic reasons?

Statistical anomaly?

So, when someone tries to make a point that "more often this group of people faces a struggle more often than that group" does not mean All and Always. It means...more often.

They as in anyone pushing the " white privilege " nonsense as a reason for failures in their life

Blacks are just as capable as anyone. One only has to make a goal for themselves and achieve that goal through hard work. Education is the most important thing that will elevate anyone in society

You can't act as if school isn't important, get poor grades, then expect life to offer you more than a job flipping burgers at minimum wage

That was worded awkwardly, so I am just gonna assume you are not implying there aren't any native people of color in America that aren't successful, which is kind of how that reads.

so,

Some people can rise to the top despite any barriers, but most people can't. Regardless of color. That is why you have met a handful of successful people that came to America from Africa. They rose to the top. They are an exception. Otherwise you would probably meet some successful African immigrant every single day considering millions of people live on that continent if they were all like that.

I, like many, would like to know more about the rampant racism on Missouri's campus

Has it been happening for a long time?

If so, why have we not heard things about it before?

It's hard to take Social Justice Warriors serious when they take things out of context

Not here for debating, just responding to the mentions/details asked.

Life is about choices regardless whether you are black or white. I have seen whites and blacks escape the bonds of poverty. We have invested trillions of dollars since the 1960's to have equal opportunity in this country and in some ways minorities have better opportunities than the white poverty class in this country. Anyone who wants to escape poverty can. Anyone who chooses to remain in poverty can.

The biggest sin in this country has been to excuse people of social responsibility.

John Kennedy said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country."

He would probably be a great conservative if he were alive today.

Ok, but I asked you why there is a large wage gap between whites and blacks.

You did go off on a tangent about education. Are you saying blacks don't value education or something? If so, why do they not value it? What is the reason?

Sounds like the team is split.

Missouri Tigers player says team not united over practice boycott

"As much as we want to say everyone is united, half the team and coaches -- black and white -- are pissed," the player, who wished to remain anonymous, told ESPN. "If we were 9-0, this wouldn't be happening."

So, even half the team both white AND black think this is a bunch of crying about nothing.

When you are born poor, to uneducated parents. Go to the poorest, worst performing school based on where you are zoned (because your parents live in a poor neighborhood) and are surrounded by more poor, uneducated people. And gangs ...and violence...that is a lot of adversity to overcome. Some will overcome, most won't. Regardless of skin color.

That problem is that the things I outlined are challenges that effect blacks more than whites.

Adversely, there may be challenges that are more prevalent to whites than blacks, and I do know that this is purely anecdotal....but I have never experienced one, and can't think of any that occur as often as the example I described above

Does it not abhor y'all that your solution is to tell these people "It's time to suck it up. Some people are just going to hate you because of your skin color. It's their right to hate you because of your skin color." Your answer isn't, in any way, looking to make a change for the future. It's 100% "hey relax, Joey is allowed to hate you because you're black." That's why racist beliefs won't change over time.

Your right to be 'abhorred' is every bit as valid as someone else's right to disagree with you. I firmly believe in your right to disagree with what i say, as long as you acknowledge that not being offended is not a RIGHT.
