Urban playing with the numbers. He needed the extra spot for this cycle.

Not sure how that would help in the spring.

Just seems like an unreal bad precident.

What happens when this happens again to star player x and there is ZERO chance that kid can pay for a semester? He going to stay consistent?

I don't see how

UT is getting a little disrespected in this whole "fire Richt" saga. The UT loss is always cited as one of Richt's most egregious failings this year. Maybe UGA didn't lose; maybe UT won. Because, as the Bama and UK games showed, we just might be that good. Maybe, instead of lamenting their close loss, they should be glad it wasn't worse.

@darrenrovell: Urban Meyer says JT Barrett will lose scholarship for a semester. Seems like another point for athletes as employees.

That's bs and a terrible precident. Going to fun with that

So his punishment is having his scholarship pulled in the spring semester, when there is only spring practice going on? He isn't getting any game suspensions effective immediately? If so, LOL!! What a joke! You know a booster will pay his tuition for one semester anyways. Nicely done, Urban...that a way to tell the young man that there is absolutely nothing wrong with what he did. Such a great coach and father figure to these young men!

It opens an spot for a kid they may havent had room for otherwise.

Player either take out loan(s) or leaves the program.

Man I've been sort of defending Georgia keeping Richt, but at this point I don't see how you can.

He's so stale there. It reminds me a lot of Fulmer at the end. Nothing he did was clicking. Momentum was getting crushed. Sure we could have held on for longer and kept cruising along, having okay seasons here and there mixed with disappointing ones... but the talent was slipping bad. I still think parting ways was the right move at the time. Unfortunately we made one of the worst hires of all time after that.

It's a gamble if you fire him. No doubt about it. But the road ahead with Richt looks pretty dreary honestly. They need to go for a spark in my opinion. They might get it wrong and sink really low, but they might not.

Who knows though. Wouldn't shock me if they turned it around and he saved his job one more time. That AD seems incredibly loyal to Richt. I would be miserable though if I were a UGA fan right now. Lose lose kind of season at this point.

I agree. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them drop one, possibly even two more games down the stretch and maybe the bowl game as well. Alabama stole their souls and we finished them off. Florida shoveled more dirt on their grave.

But who do you hire if you're Georgia's AD? Fuente seems like a huge gamble to me. Take away Paxton Lynch, who may be the top QB in the draft this year, and where is he? There are a lot of mid-major coaches who win 8-9 games a year and can motivate their guys. I would be much more impressed by him if he just had "some guy" at QB instead of a stud like Lynch. But he has arguably the best resume and best wins out of all the mid-major guys right now.

All the big-name coaches are locked up at their schools. There are maybe 5 coaches in CFB who are "can't miss" hires and they aren't going anywhere, and maybe 10 more after that who are about on the level of Richt and they, too, aren't going anywhere. That's what makes it such a hard situation.

The more I look at it, the more Kirby Smart seems like the logical choice for them. Richt was a long-time coordinator at powerhouse FSU. Smart is a long-time coordinator at powerhouse Alabama, and he's an alum.

I hope they keep him forever. I have no desire for UGA to stumble on Nick Saban part two.

I know you'll disagree, but if we win 9 and a raise doesn't happen it would be a huge mistake. That could prove good enough for a top 5 finish in the conference and he's getting paid 3rd from the bottom. In those circumstances, no one would blame him if he took a better deal elsewhere and we would end up begging our 4th or 5th choice to replace him b/c our AD would likely have garnered a reputation for failing to reward progress.

Im not saying give him a raise tomorrow. But if we end up with 9 wins on the season and a raise is not on the table, it would be a huge mistake.

So freakin quick to give every coach a pay raise and extension for the smallest things. Beating up on cupcakes the last half of the season doesn't prove anything.

Hot and heavy recruiting the 2017 class. Contract needs to be extended for that class to graduate or it will be used agiant us in recruiting

Give more salary with less buyout to protect ourselves

I read something earlier that reminded me that Georgia was actually favored over Bama at home earlier this year when they played. Totally forgot about that.

That's seems insane in hindsight.

I think the reason it feels so dreadful to them is because of the expectations they had for themselves this season. The line in that Bama game is a great example of how the country looked at them. Also at the time we played we were kind of looked at as the choke artists of the SEC.

I think our fans can easily see we're more than that at this point. But nationally, they're going to have to see some consistent winning for awhile before teams get any credit for losing close games to us. This year that's still seen as an upset.

That changes in 2016 though.

His stock has dropped considerably. If a high profile job opens soon, he would be a fool for not leaving Bama.
What about Mich State coach to UGA?

Care more about wins than recruiting now. The talent is here. If they could lower the buyout then go for it, but I don't see it happening.

Yup. Rest of our schedule is crap. Late 90's bad.

The difference is, we used to be part of the crap. And we've basically switched places with South Carolina and possibly Mizzou... And possibly Georgia.

So it's not like they're all crap and we are too. We are going to blow all of their doors off one by one. And you're right.. That's late 90's-esque. Which is refreshing as hell to me. The late 90's were fun.

One game suspension this season.

Ohio State Buckeyes QB J.T. Barrett to lose scholarship for term after DUI arrest

More to this story than has come out IMO. One of those get yourself right or good luck as a UFA in the NFL.

IF we win the last 4 games by an average of 21pts+ do you all think we will be ranked before the bowl at 8-4? I certainly think we will.

If we win the bowl we 100% will be, just trying to decide if it will take till after a possible bowl win or not.

Really would like to finish the season ranked for the first time since 2007.

What about Mich State coach to UGA?

That's interesting. I think you could see a coach like that come out of nowhere for that job, like Bielema at Ark.

The ceiling at UGA is real high. It's the opportunity of a lifetime really.

That being said, I hope they drop the ball on this hire Reggie Davis style.
