I don't think it will happen but with the way this year is going I wouldn't count anything out. I do agree I think if he leaves on his own then he will get out completely for a couple years.

Either way I do see UGA hiring a Ray Goff type coach more than a Mark Richt type.

Yes, I can see them going in that direction. Which would be the best case scenario for us in terms of recruiting. But if they pony up, I don't know, could get scary. It's not like cupboard is empty there. Just all speculation right now.. For now I'm a big GA fan to beat the Gators this weekend. Don't see it happening, but it'd be awesome if it did..

I don't see some up-and-comer just waltzing into Athens and turning UGA into a powerhouse.

Richt is a good coach. Hell, he's a GREAT coach. He's 141-50. He has slipped slightly in recent years, but not to Fulmer 2008 level by any means.

A lot of people think that UGA is a guaranteed 10+ win team every year with the right coach, but that's not really true for any school. Things could easily be much, much worse for the Dawgs. In fact, I think that the chances of a non-established coach being an upgrade over Richt are very slim. And unlike Fulmer, Richt would have a ton of job offers if he got fired tomorrow and wanted to stay in coaching.

If UGA does make a move, they better be ready to hire their own Saban. Richt has UGA operating at about 85% of their potential, but there are a hell of lot more coaches out there who will fall short of that standard than there are coaches who can improve on his track record.

I heard a guy on local radio wonder if Richt would consider the Miami job.

Now that we are over halfway through the season, which of the vols do you think could be up for all-sec honors?

Potential shots at first team selection:

Dobbs
JRM
Barnett
Evan Berry

Potential shots at 2nd/3rd team selection:

The four listed above, should they not be selected for first team, of course. But also:
Sutton
Hurd
Kerbyson
Thomas
Wolf
Daniel

Thoughts?

I haven't been impressed with Kerby. Compared to last year, yes, but not overall.

Dak and Kelly both will be rated above Dobbs.

Evan Berry and JRM should have a shot at 1st team if they keep it up.

Wolf and Thomas have a shot for sure at 2nd or 3rd team.

Daniel should make it.

Hurd will be behind Fournette and Henry, but has a shot at 3rd team if he finishes strong.

Hello, yes, my daddy told me i should call you guys up and inquire about the job opening there at Georgia. I come from a fine Southern football coaching lineage. As a matter of fact my last name IS Dooley - how did you know?

I feel like Weatherd is more important than you guys are letting on.

He's a preventative guy. You put him in the game so a mobile QB doesn't run wild. He's very good at that. Having said that, he's a one-trick pony. For teams without a running QB, we have better, more versatile options... So against UGA, Ark, Bama he didn't play much.

He'll show up against Missouri though. He has a role on this team.

IDT UGA will fire Richt... but I wouldn't be surprised if he retired soon-- maybe even this year or next, especially if they lose to UF. He's had a good run, he doesn't need the money or the hassle and he might rather do missionary work in Guaimaca than deal with rabid Dawgs in Athens.

Crunching some numbers, thought this was interesting

Tennessee has had 95 offensive drives this season (including punt and kickoff returns that went for TDs in that 95)

47 of them ended with scores/score opps. TDs, FGs made and FG misses. 30TDs, 9 makes, and 8 misses.

26 Drives had no first downs. 3 and out.

22 Drives had at least one first down, but no scoring opportunity. Punt/TO/etc.

47 of 69 drives where we got a 1st down turns into a score, or "potential score".

Not sure about NCAA average or anything but if we get a first down we score/"potential" score 68% of the time seems pretty good. Obviously, would like to be closer on FG attempts, make them, etc.

If we take out the misses, we are 39 for 69 for 56%.

What was Fulmer's record when we fired him? Quite similar to Richt's I think. 152-52 or something like that? Georgia definitely could have it much worse. I guess it helped Fulmer that he won a few SEC titles and a National Championship.

Exactly my thinking. UGA would be betting a lot just to see what they get.

I thought the Schedule was already basically known but listening to john Brice sounds like we are going to get florida, Georgia, A&M, and Bama all in a row

Did we already know that?
