I would like to know these answers as well.

Seems that a lot of people here and in the media have been ripping this guy to shreds, the argument being that this is no way to treat someone, that is way far too excessive, and that other measures should have been taken. The only thing lacking in this position is actually providing an example of a specific measure that could have been taken outside of force to solve this issue.

So a teacher has a distracting student who will not stop distracting when asked. The process is then repeated by the administrator and finally by the officer. At this point in the ordeal, what else is to be done? Seems there are only three options:

1. Call parents/guardians to see what effect that might have. If none available, then one of the following two options must be taken (no exceptions).

Either

2. Cancel the class and have students leave.

Or

3. Have the school officer take the student into custody (although an arrest would not have to be made).

A lot of unanswered questions here concerning the administration and the legitimacy of the officer's involvement. I'll have to wait to see them answered before making a final judgment on the appropriateness of his and the administration's actions.

I knew he'd be fired regardless. The school system wasn't about to take the heat for employing a "racist," since this has become a racial issue for some ridiculous reason and since being a "racist" is the worst thing you can possibly be in our society.

I'm not going to pretend like the force involved in this ordeal was necessarily unwarranted on its own. Perhaps it was, but we don't know yet for sure. And at what point do you allow a single student to continue to disrupt the entire education process when words and threats no longer work? Was she supposed to just sit in the class for the rest of her life while her classmates and the teacher went elsewhere?

From everything I'm seeing, the kid was caught texting in class and refused to give the teacher her phone when asked. She then refused to leave the classroom when instructed to do so. Trying to force her to leave immediately by use of force is much more of a distraction than continuing teaching and handling the issue after class.

Unfortunately, nobody is going to question the teacher or administrator about how they mishandled the situation.

After reading through the posts about the cop and the kid.... Plus the history some of you have in the politics forum I can't help but think that a lot of you guys that hate on the cops and detest the use of force in most every situation grew up in very .....how to say this....calm and quiet communities that were free from street punks, thugs and troublemaking goons.

I could be wrong, but it seems as though you guys were sheltered.... I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but I've seen many instances where someone needed to have their ass whipped to make them understand.

You're right. They should learn that unnecessarily escalating a situation with violence is immensely stupid and has its consequences.

The escalating of the problem from illustrates a dificiency in the system and the so-called adults involved. Not putting your cellphone away fast enough or in a timely manner in no there part of society results in Hawk & Animal slamming someone on their necks. Hell, at work, at meetings or other big events, we have cellphones going offf all the time... even after some of the managers that speaking have made everyone aware to turn them off. I've never seen anyone at the podium give anything more than an eye roll (if that). I don't eever expect to see one of my co-workers get dragged out of their seats over it.

But in these classrooms, if you dont put the phone/gameboy/electronic device away in time, these power starved school admins want to confiscate property (at best) and/or call the law and lay down the People's Elbow on some plebe.

There iss no justification on the planet for a cellphone incident of any kind to end up like this. The adults need to be ashamed.

Thugs, goons and street punks = a person that doesn't put their cellphone away in a timely manner, doesn't signal for lane changes, sells loose cigarettes, smokes reefer, performs rolling stops at intersections, flips a bird at the cops, falls behind on child support, looks at the cops funny

If you want to make an argument that what this officer did was in any way appropriate for the situation, go ahead. Telling us that "we need to have our asses whipped" to understand says a lot more about you than it does the people who think this guy was way out of line.

Yup, never used force in my life. I'm a total pacifist. Love is the answer to our problems.

He is going to tell his kids to have some balls and fight the system that says you can't play on your phone in class.

You're still the asswhipe who thinks breaking a non violent rule in class justifiesa violent response. Sheep like you are the root of the problem. Go graze in another pasture if societal dissent doesn't nestle well in your cooter.

You can only be asked nicely so many times..... Societal dissent over a cellphone in the classroom.... What the h$ll was she standing up again? What have you ever done to stand up to these societal problems that you speak of?

They're acting like the only form of conflict management they know is violence. I sincerely hope that isn't the case for the sake of their own families, but that's exactly how they're presenting themselves. Like I said, this **** had to start young.

Again, in none of the meetings or gatherings at my job do I have to worry about a co-worker or myself being arrested for using a cellphone while one of the bigwigs is talking...

I'm sure you and the majority of the other people in here don't have that worry, either.

Not having common courtesy isn't grounds for MMA sparing.

Are you trivializing societal dissent over a cellphone? If you are, then you are in agreement with me. How can something so trivial turn into the chaos that it did?

The adults involved are fully responsible for escalating such a trivial matter.

I'm sure there are ways that using your cellphone that your boss would tell you to put it up. If you didn't comply then he would ask you to leave and when you told him to suck it and kept doing what he had asked you not to do than you would be made to leave.... I think you should talk on your phone and be obnoxious during your next meeting to test the theory.

In fact at my job if you use your cellphone in a patient area.... You get a verbal warning.... Then a written warning..... Then a final written warning and then you are escorted off the premises.... If you don't leave or cause a scene, guess who is called to come get you?

I guess I'm lucky in that none of my co-workers or supervisors take themselves that seriously to where anything has to even be said by them, much less asked to leave or arrested.

It's a cellphone, people. Relax.
