Would be very easy for me to say that, then again, I'm not the one that they are making a killing off of and not receiving a dime of it.

As a person that wasn't/isn't a huge fan of the spread I am pleasantly surprised at how physical we are running the football. 2 questions going forward that I think are plenty fair to ask regarding the future.

Can we continue to be a physical Running team when Without a physical bruises back when Hurd leaves?

Can we continue to be a physical running team if we don't have a Running QB?

The anti spread thinking in me says no on both but I admit I am surprisingly pleased right now

Yes on both. To me, it's a mindset. There isn't another back on the team (or many other teams) with Hurd's size and physicality, but you can still be a punishing team with your o-line and RBs.

Travis Stephens wasn't a huge guy, but he was a very physical runner. The O-line can be as nasty as it wants regardless of who they have behind them.

I mean, yeah, I can see both sides of it.

But still, I think I probably would have let it go, like the thousands of others who were in the same position.

But alas, Like most things in our society, the vocal minority (referencing the term of numerical comparison, not race) ruins things for the whole.

Edit: and lawyers too. They ruin a lot of things too (no offense, jclawyer and jordan4vols) :)

True, and this issue wasn't going to solve world peace or end hunger around the globe, but sometimes the vocal minority is right.

If thousands of others just wanted to let it slide, then I have no problem with that either, it's their choice. Doesn't change the fact that, in my opinion, EOB is on the correct side of this one.

A decent compromise could be....Similar to what the poster above said , have it with random names and numbers and likenesses. I mean the main fun of the game IMO is the dynasty aspect if it, recruiting and building your program. Etc

Bring the game back and give each college on the game 100 copies of the game and each player can then get the game for free and the rest of us can pay the $70 to play it. Sounds fair to me.

All they need to do is bring the game back and there will be plenty of crazy enough fans to do edits for all the teams and put the names and jersey #'s back to what they are in real life. I used to change the names a long time ago with like the Athlon Magizine that had our roster in it and that drove me crazy just trying to do one team. If you have the last year there are downloadable rosters for the current year, just have to find them but I would like a new game with a couple more upgrades. This is the only game I will ever play and its usually on a random saturday before a UT game and I kill the opposing team, if only the football game would match the score of my game we would be undefeated for the past 10 years

I don't disagree with you about any of that.

According to the article, it's 8 FBS schools and 6 p5 schools

Crazy. And we're only halfway through the season, there will surely be a couple more at the end. I'm thinking Snyder at kstate might be retiring, they're having a pretty bad year and will struggle to male a bowl.

Agree with your take on the spread. I have been pleasantly surprised.

I don't know the answer to your questions but I will say this....

I want to have a mobile QB on my college football team. I would not recruit a QB who couldn't run with it especially in the spread offense that features the zone read/gap scheme whatever it is called.

Wish him the best. I really liked him as a coach. I hope he finds a way to get healthy, and also to stay around the game in some capacity.

Exactly! I don't think I've ever seen this many vacancies halfway through the season. It's crazy!

I think Isiah Pead was an ideal fit in this offense and performed so. Fil-Aime has that look with maybe a little more explosion. Hurd is a unique beast for us...Jamal Lewis is the closest comparison and he was faster but smaller. We can't count on landing someone like that every four years...because they don't make many of them. This offense will function great with other types because it was built for those other types. We're not going to suffer if our QB doesn't run as well as Dobbs...or half as well. As long as they compensate with superior passing. Tho, JG might be the best of both. Butch recruits with the best of them, if his schemes use those athletes right everything points forward as OL gravitate towards those type of teams.

I had to carry this over from the previous thread:

Actual Scores:

Missouri 3 Vandy 10 L
Tennessee 14 Alabama 19 W
Texas A&M 3 Ole Miss 23 L
Kentucky 16 Miss St 42 L
Auburn 46 Arkansas 54 W
Western KY 20 LSU 48 W

3-3 is my worst week so far and brings my total to 39-18 ATS for the season. Will try to get back on the winning side this week. Tune in Wednesday.

I agree on the pleasantly surprised comments. I do think you can be physical if you have a physical line or back. We have the back and the line is coming. Dobbs is more of a fluid runner than a punishing one. Hurd begins and ends the punishing side of our attack.

You had the spread right for the Vols and if not for poor kicking the outcome.

Wow, I'm opposite of your picks across the board except arky and Tennessee. Auburn over Ole Miss?! Georgia over Florida?!
