Dobbs Cannot Handle The Blitz

Dobbs got saved by his receivers, and the Bama D on several piss poor decisions, too. Don't act like he didn't make some bad decisions that were lucky to not be detrimental to this game.

This must not be ignored, preparing for Kentucky, because a loss to the Wild Cats and the season is suddenly over in October

Kendall Wright made RG3 look great in his senior season. I feel that Dobbs has no chemistry with any of the recievers which is puzzling considering that its his third year.

I wish it would be over in October so the rest of us who watch the season play out don't have to hear or see you mfer's complaining. Great game plan today the better team won on this day. Be proud and let it go. You guys all think it's coach speak to say two or three plays make the difference in most games ! Think it's still coach speak ? A couple plays they made and the chances we had such as kicking made the difference. Ole Piss beating them was a fluke nothing more.

I think that he should chuck it earlier. And at times try to give the receiver a chance. (edit: I know these two sentences contradict.) It's not really his fault though. Alabama has a legit front against our young O-line. Dobbs actually had a couple of really nice get aways. With a slower pocket passer this game might have been a massacre, sack-wise.

The O line is much improved despite being injured and relying on freshmen . The have contained the edge and dealt with pressure pretty well all season considering this and Dobb's not delivering the ball within 3 seconds. Asking them to hold longer that 3 seconds is silly and smacks of having no understanding of the game . To play Bama , on their home field , and not expect pressure is ridiculous . They did okay at times tonight , took their lumps other times , and Dobbs added to their problems by not delivering the ball on time . Dobbs did some good things too.

The last I checked , there is no Bama on our schedule going forward . We should do fine in each of them . 7 or 8 wins easy

That last scoring drive was a thing of beauty. Balls were perfectly placed while under pressure.

Yes it was. But, he also threw at least 3 passes that should've been picked off. Things look a lot different if the receiver doesn't break up one of those, and the DBs catch the ball like they did last week. They had stone hands today. He was very fortunate. The big one that sticks out was his overthrow of an open receiver (again) that was dropped by the safety.

It's all timming with Dobb's, but some QB's handle the blitz better, indeed.......he has some great skills but has trouble scrambling and then throwing on the run with accuracy.....many QB's have the same problem however.....the difference in the good ones and the great one's no doubt.
just define "timming " :good!:

You're right he made some mistakes (though was out of the pocket on the run for his life on two of those, and the third was tipped at the line).

That was a great defense, and Dobbs still completed about 60% of his passes for 172 yards.

The guy is always running for this life. Since the O-Line can't contain the edge, every DC knows to come at him at every play. There is no way this team gets to 8 wins.

I think it's actually the O line that can't handle the blitz. Dobbs did what he could to try and extend plays.

from my couch I've got a much better view of the field- but also would've liked to see him throw the ball up more to give the WRs a chance to make a play.

E

I perceive Dobbs is coached to avoid turnovers above all else. Bama made some critical first downs throwing to well covered receivers and allowing them to make a play. Sure seams like our large athletic receivers ought to be given those chances to make a big play also?

Debord's is trying to turn Dobbs into a drop back passer and it's not working. Everytime when Dobbs drops back, he starts to think too much and by the time he realizes it; the play is blown.

Dobbs Cannot Handle The Blitz

I think you got the above quote wrong. It's not that Dobbs can't handle the blitz. It's the OL that can't handle the blitz! What else do you want Dobbs to do back there? I mean he gets out of a lot of sacks just by his athletic ability alone. He has about 2 seconds to set back in the pocket to make a decision.

That's on the OL buddy & not Dobbs at all. Dobbs has saved us many times. We just have a play dough put together OL. I mean tons of injuries & one OL after another something happens. We have no chemistry there because of all the injuries.

Jack Jones & Chance Hall played well against Georgia but not as good today against a much better defense in BAMA. Dobbs will have to continue his escaping ability for us back there in the passing game. We just don't have a good enough OL to protect him.

It's as simple as that! Dobbs can do it too. We might just have to send him in roll out passes most of the time because standing in the pocket right now he will be killed.

I don't think he has the ability to go through his progressions. Seems like he had a predetermined receiver in mind and when he isn't open or he senses the rush he panics.

Some quick slants and other quick passes over the middle would help neutralize the blitz and take some of the pressure off the line. Instead, they run ski developing passing routes or throw worse receiver screens.

When you see the wide field view where you can see the routes develop, you realize it's not Dobbs having a problem reading a defense. Our receivers aren't very good at getting separation against tight man coverage.

Yeah, there was a couple of times during the game when he dropped back and panicked. Towards the end of the game before Bama scored, someone was open in the middle of the field (think it was Josh Smith) and he missed way left. That was going to be a first down and it could have put the game away if he could have made the completion.

So which is it? Stays in the pocket to long or panics? You haters can't even get your stories straight.

I think he meant that he "thinks too much." Dobbs is a smart guy but if you over-analyze the situation it actually slows your progressions during the play.
