What an arrogant...

I'm really not seeing the issue with his statement. Doesn't everyone do this in their own way? I know I've definitely kept a mental list at times

Certainly, but you don't talk about it on a national stage. Sounds like Jones is fed up. We've all faced the realization that something we wanted was not all it was touted to be.

It was in a different context than it was laid out here to be....im not defending his coaching, that will take care of itself one way or the other, but id sure like to see how some of you react if once a week, your boss brought you in and told you to sit and allowed 30 reporters to begin questioning you performance over the past week. You already know how these things go, and its the same if your in Athens or Tuscaloosa or Knoxville, your gonna get pretty much the same responses from the coach.

Again,

With all due respect, that is not the context in which Butch said those words.

I heard him say , in a paraphrased manner, that he told the team that football is like life, and this is a tough time which they need to own and fix, and you find out who is with you and who isn't during tough times. And that at some point in life, you'll refer to this time, maybe later this season, maybe 10 years from now. So he wasn't talking specifically about remembering who is with you or against you, rather how you get through adverse times.

I don't see arrogance more like shutting down and accepting fate. It's a cute quote but I'll reiterate, 101K+ on a rainy cold night. Yeah, we are REALLY against you.

You a multi-million dollar coach at a public funded university, who inexplicably now finds himself with another losing record?

Obviously rhetorical. Of course we all do it to some extent. It's the optics of the situation he finds himself in. This is not the way to handle it.

If this team ends up going 8-4 with a bowl win, then we have a lot of people on this thread we can repost this quote for. It's not arrogance, it's confidence. Butch believes in himself. Would you rather have him telling everyone that we're going to lose every game?

I would prefer something to the effect of, "People have every reason to be upset and doubt us. We have underperformed to this point in the season. But it is our job to keep improving and prove the doubters wrong."

Instead it sounds like he is above reproach and has an agenda against the fans.

If I was making almost 4 mil per year I'd do it with a smile on my face.

Your question is irrelevant. There's nothing wrong with what he said but some are just going to find fault regardless

Also, on the rumor of a previous physical altercation with a player, Butch's response was short and to the point....."absolutely ridiculous", said emphatically.

The guy is an unlikable prick. He always has been, we just wanted to believe so badly we chose not to see it. But now with the slogans and rah rah high school bull@#$ being coupled with a hefty dose of arrogant condescension, I can't even listen to him without wanting to throw something.

Yeah, we all do it. I don't care if he does it, but its just not a good idea to say you are doing it to the media. Don't give them a reason to try and pile more dirt on you.

Quote from the Monday press conf.

"You find out who's with you and who's against you... You write it down and put it in your back pocket. To reference later...."

Is this freakin guy serious!!!!!!!!!

I've considered making a list of all those VNers who have "quit".

But they keep posting after they quit. I wish they would give up.

Jones has VN for that. No help needed.

At the end of the day he has banked millions of guaranteed current and future dollars. He doesnt have to say jack squat if he doesn't want to. But head coaches choose their words wisely. Remember that.

He just told you what every coach, politician, teacher, etc does.....everyone remembers who turned on them. Maybe he shouldn't have said it but he damn sure aint the first guy in that office to do it....
