Extremely premature coaching candidate discussion (merged)

Fire one coach from Cincinnati who is less than 3 full seasons in for an older Cincinnati coach who is an SEC retread...just stop. UT/Hart are giving CBJ a 4th season so this kind of stuff is worthless.

I have heard rumors, that behind closed doors, Mega Boosters are trying holding meeting with Fulmer and Majors together trying to recruit Jon Gruden himself to come and save our football team. This has all been going on at the Jefferson County VFW, from my understanding it has been agreed to in principle as follows: Gruden Head Football Coach, Randy Shannon as Defensive Coordinator, Coach Cut as Offensive Coordinator, Lance Thompson as LB coach, and Butch has agreed to stay on board as Recruiting coordinator and the last piece of the puzzle which can not be made public will blow your mind when leaked, but after the super bowl the new QB coach should be available, and the Oline will not have to worry about "bulk" anymore because we now have a connection to lots of Papa Johns....just saying....It is happening!!!!!!

LOL!! I'll have what he's having!!

If you want a thread about potential coaches, find us an OL coach and a recievers coach. Those are the only likely changes before next season.

This. If Peyton was serious about being a QB coach, bring him in, get rid of Mahoney, let Dsbird take OL since he does already, then.......if Azzani leaves, call Tee again. Yes I know most of y'all don't want him. I have pretty much avoided this thread due to how ridiculous the notion is, but I got time, so....

Ya all that is true until we put a check in front of him for 8.3 mil per. You like that?

There's more to life than money for a lot more people than you realize. Greedy leprechauns like Saban are actually the minority. "Write him a check" is the most often repeated uninformed statement about how coaching jobs are filled.

Although I dont want a coaching change in the middle of a season this could be a fun thread. Why not Tressel?

Also I have a question for all the Grudenites. What makes you think he would be a good college coach? Honestly.

It's a waste of time to discuss it at length because there's not a snowball's chance in Hell he'll ever come here, but really, he's Jon Gruden. The ball's in your court to show why he wouldn't be a good college coach.

I honestly think he may be the only coach in America who could actually out-recruit the rest of the SEC.

Butch is doing an extraordinary job recruiting so far. However, he's not outrecruiting the WHOLE SEC and since he's established himself as the worst game-day coach I've ever seen at a big time program, Butch needs to do that to win it all.

In essence, I think Gruden is the one person in the nation who could actually out-recruit everyone in the SEC, despite the geographical advantages. Which means, if he was slightly better than Butch on game-day, we should always be competing for championships with Gruden.

So your answer is, he is Jon Gruden. No the ball is not in my court, unless you can answer the question with some simple brain function. I know your so called intellect came from a simple monkey but give it a try. Why would Gruden be a good college coach?

Just out of curiosity, but what makes you think he would automatically just come in and out recruit guys like Saban, Miles and Richt? Just because of his name? I think it would take much more than that to out recruit the SEC.

Hate participating but coaching searches are fun, so I'll throw a name I haven't seen on here...Tom Herman. Killing it in Houston (both recruiting and on field) coordinated a power spread to a NC and will get a top job very quickly.

I can't say with 100% certainty that he'd be a good college coach, just that it's more likely than not upon an intellectually honest review of relevant facts. That's not a conclusion which occasions contention among knowledgeable football people.

I was all in on the Gruden train after Dooley was relieved of his duties. By all in I mean it was Gruden or else for me. I've cooled off of that and would be open for others (NOT named Mullen, Whittingham, Cutcliffe, Kingsbury, Fuentes) but still think Gruden would still be a top notch choice. Here's why:

# 1 - His "name" - Now I don't want just a popularity contest winner as a coach but I believe his name (due to football camps, TV appearances, tenure in the profession, etc.) would be a huge attraction. You got to have something to draw them in, right? I believe it would tend to make recruits excited and less likely to leave a commitment and less likely for existing players to transfer out. Sure, you're going to have decommitments and transfers but I believe it would be extremely minimal in losing guys while at the same time building onto them with the "best of the best".

# 2 - His "staff" - Again, I think due to all of his connections and involvement in the profession I truly believe he could put together "the best staff in America". His name alone is not enough for this program. Shoot, if Gruden couldn't bring in a staff at least equal to Kiffin's then I say no thank you to Gruden. I would be as excited about the entire staff that Gruden could bring as I would about Gruden himself. Once the players are in you gotta have something to keep them here and keep them coming, right? I believe his staff would be the answer to that and also for positive "on-field" results like truly competing for SEC Championships and putting us in position for playoff consideration on a yearly basis. None of this, "I think we go 8-4 or 9-3 and get 2nd in the SEC East" only to find out it's "Crap, we need to go 6-6 or we will miss a bowl" like it is nowadays.

I think of Gruden's impact similar to Carroll's impact at USC. Not the same in all regards but I think the "success" and "results" could be the similar, if not better.

I think it's going to take a huge name that can 1) coach/recruit himself and 2) bring in a top, top echelon staff that can do the same to ever bring us out of the cess pool of mediocrity that this administration has settled for over the last decade.

The biggest question is will the administration/donors pay top dollar for what it will take to do that or will they continue to go cheap? If they continue to go cheap then I think you can confidently lower your expectations of this program to be a middle of the road SEC East team year in and year out.

This totally makes sense now... Why not throw more money to bring Bajakian back in? This is a joke.
