I have been silent since the FL game, to see if things got better here. This place depresses me sometimes with all the negative talk. Let me start by saying, most realistic fans and media picked TN to go 8-4 this season. I also picked 8-4 this season. I had OU, FL, UA, and Mizz as loses (yeah, I think TN beats GA), so TN is still on track to go the route that myself and others have predicted. I think most that are being so negative, are the ones that had unrealistic expectations. I know that most don't want to hear this, but this is still a young team with little quality depth. I think part of the problem late in games, boils down to depth. Our guys are getting gassed, and are either making mistakes, or the players rotating in, are not as good, or don't have the experience. Gaulden really was a big loss!

I am not taking all blame off bUTch, and the coaching staff, but part of the problem really is depth. Better coaching probably does win at least one of those games. However, the last thing this program needs is a coaching search. I think bUTch deserves at least year 5 before Hart even considers looking. BUTch has changed the culture here for the better, restocking the roster, getting VFLs involved, etc... BUTch may or may not be the guy, but give him a chance. I don't think people really understand how depleted the roster was, and that is changing. It is not there yet, but is getting there. I don't think we can judge bUTch until the roster is there. TN does have a lot of talent now, but is still thin in some areas. It takes at least 3 full recruiting cycles to completely restock a roster that was in the shape TN's was in prior to bUTch arriving.

Some of y'all need to step away from the ledge, and just enjoy life. I was pissed with the rest of y'all after the game, even though I picked TN to lose, because they got so close. However, I just turned off all football for the rest of the night, and just enjoyed spending time with my son that God me and my family with 13 months ago, after having 2 miscarriages. I am blessed beyond believe, and more than I deserve to have a steady job, wonderful family, food on the table, etc... to be too upset over a game. VN makes it worse than it really is. I am a diehard VOLS fan, and will be until the day I die. I remember games that date back to the late 80s and early 90s until present, when I was 8-9 years old, and have had many great memories, and will continue.

Having said all that, I am stepping away from VN for awhile, and taking a more casual approach for this season. I will still watch and DVR every game, but I just want to step away from negativity that VN brings. It has consumed way too much of my time lately, and I have more important things in life to deal with. I may visit once or twice a week, but probably won't post.

See you after the season.
Later rednecks.

On the bright side we got a pretty good team on our hands. Gaulden injury is proving to be really big. We have pretty much played entire season without Pig our leading WR from last year. We haven't clicked in pass game yet we should still be 4-0. When's the last time we said that?

A very long time!

We really are right there. We're ready to break down that wall and get rolling. Let's ride

Any scenario where we can play tkjr, Randolph, and McNeil at the same time?

Perhaps a dumb idea but why couldn't one of the take the MLb spot in the nickel?

34 was really poor in coverage last week

I think we could slide McNeil down in that situation.

Butch be like:

If he manages to close out the season with a Heath Ledger level performance I'll gladly accept these two.

My true fear is he ends out going the other way Ledger did and offing himself with his methods.

We have shown no creatively with that mlb spot in the nickel in all 3 years.

I wish we would insert one of the Safties but I doubt there is any chance

Zero. And with two losses chances are we aren't gona be hoisting the trophy later this year so let 34 grow into the position.

He is going to plenty of snaps to grow

Put the best player in the spot to help us win in long down and distance spots.

I want to see 37 do it

I legitimately fear for Butch's health, especially if the season goes south. The guy just looks like his blood pressure is through the roof 24/7.

How about some play action? Faking the read option? What would Florida's defense have done on that last series if we had faked the read option and thrown the ball?

We are still lining up in a manner that shows what we are running. If the RB is offset from Dobbs, then it is almost always a run. If the RB is even with Dobbs, then it is a pass or Dobbs run.

You do realize as a fan, you are pointing out a legitimate scheme issue that has been present since Butch arrived as well as when he was a HC in his past? So why is it that he doesn't realize it? Why do posters and fans accept it as it's OK, he will learn from it and get better at it, he's our coach, he isn't going anywhere, blah, blah, blah? Butch goes to a weekly presser and tells everybody there isn't a scheme issue and no adjustments are needed - just we need to get better and execute as we should.

The running plays that are working are not his gap scheme run plays that are so slow developing. He cannot take Dobbs out of the equation in this offense. It is a QB run dominated offense. He can balance it better with the passing game, which he is not doing yet for some reason that is inexplicable and indefensible. It needs to change permanently on Saturday.

Some of us have been watching UT football for a pretty long time; when I was 8-9 years old Bowden Wyatt was coaching the Vols. Football is not my life, but I enjoy my Tennessee football, and for the past few years I have had to work hard to find satisfaction. I think most of us know that losing is part of the game; and most of us can take an occasional loss. But, we don't want to live with losses as we have had to endure the past few coaching regimes. How you lose is important, and the Vols have snatched defeat out of the hands of victory against Oklahoma and Florida. Such patterns are NOT acceptable regardless how good the recruiting ability of this coaching staff. It is what the team does on the field that counts. The breeze blows hardest at the top of the flagpole, and our head coach is at the top.

Here is why we keep going over it.

When we hadto have a first down, with roughly 4 minutes left in the game, Florida knew we would not throw the ball. Think about that. If the opponent knows you won't throw the ball how successful can the run game be?

Football is a game of strategy, and if you give away half or two thirds of the field, then opponent is going to take advantage of it. If we can hit a simple slant or out route we win that game. It really is that simple, but that doesn't make it easy, either for Dobbs or the coaches.

So, despite any other mistakes of strategies, turnovers or poor decision making, when it comes to 4 minutes left and you need a first down, do you run it three times against eight in the box?

So, that is why we go over it again and again, because right now, no one thinks we can hit that slant or out route, so we will run it again three straight times, and then we will punt!!!!!

The top running D in the nation got hit for 254 yards that evening and Dobbs had only managed 80 in the air. We will run all day
