Ukraine II: The Fight Against Russian Aggression

Ian Bremmer... I'm going to leave a footnote here to remind me to discuss this guy later on. But he is typical of the type of people that are calling the shots and influencing others in the country.

This week and the next are international/state visit overload, what with the Pope, Xi, and Putin. (Well, I guess Putin's isn't a state visit, but it will basically end up being the same thing.) I can't remember a span this significant and compelling. Pretty wild and crazy for us international politics guys.

An interesting question is how much of the heavy lifting of negotiation is accomplished during these visits, and how much is worked out beforehand.

I figure Ukraine and Syria are probably going to be same ole', same ole' for a while to come, so I don't expect much there. I would, however, like to see us put much more pressure on China concerning its unfair business practices that put American companies at a disadvantage at China's gain. If China is truly wanting to be a big boy now who wears big boy pants and sits at the adult table, then it needs to start acting like it instead of simply using an aggressive tone and stance in the South and East China Seas. It's high past time they start operating their economy like the rest of the developed world.

talking points only, imo. both will have things they want to say on various issues that likely don't influence whatever "deals/understandings" we actually get out of it.

Isn't it magnificent?

Prop up a corrupt regime for decades that's the root cause of the war because of its refusal to ever reform, and then get to ride into NYC like a knight in shinning armor and look like the good guy.

Just another beautiful story from the fairy tales that are geopolitics.

You have to have the wool of an RTbot to believe the excuses Jones is coming up with. Good grief.

Meanwhile, it seems Russia has become bored with Ukraine, shifting operations to its new Middle East project.

The War May Be Over: Russian Roulette (Dispatch 110)

Perhaps this sheds some light on the Ukrainian boredom:

Why Putin Wants the West to Forget Ukraine - Bloomberg View

Apparently Saakashvili isn't the moronic bogeyman that Russian media makes him out to be. But, then again, one should always be wary of filthy pig American lies.

Pretty bad when you have to look to foreigners to clean your country up.

Regarding Twitter, does @poroshenko have you blocked? He does me, for an unknown reason.

If you're asking me directly, I don't have a twitter account. Well, actually, I think I do, but I only tweeted like once or twice before deciding Twitter wasn't for me. I don't even remember my account name or password anymore.

Sounds like the CIA has spotted your subversive practices here on VolNation and elsewhere.

But how do you keep up if not on Twitter?

I get everything I need to know from English-language Russian state media.

A little random on my part, but, man, this reads like a darned soap opera:

Finally, We Know About the Moscow Bombings by Amy Knight | The New York Review of Books

The conclusion hearkens back to the question I posited a week or two ago about whether or not the Russian people would even truly give enough of a damn if they were ever allowed to find out how Putin's been lying to them about Russian troop involvement/deaths in Ukraine (and I'm sure Syria soon as well). Kind of like what the author alludes to at the end, I get the impression that Russians know what a complete piece of garbage Putin is; they just don't really care though, because he's their complete piece of garbage.

Sort of like how UT fans knew what a piece of trash Kiffin was at the time, but, by god, he was our piece of trash.

So you treated Twitter like you did your sexuality through a couple experiments?

I kid I kid
