Arian Foster Breaks Ground By Admitting He Doesn’t Believe In God

After a 4 month job search after obtaining my masters, I finally acquired the job of my dreams.

God is good.

4 months?

Sounds like you got the job of your dreams very early.

Anyhow, congratulations to you. Not many in this world can say what you just said.

He didn't ask for a list of religions that Americans have confirmed in polls that they'd be comfortable voting for over an atheist candidate. He asked how many atheists do we know of in football. Of course, probably over a third don't actually believe in anything, but being open about it is another matter entirely.

My point was we don't know for any players unless by doing research on the individual player.

Why is it relevant?

I'm not comfortable voting for any NFL player for president.

Why should anyone care about a player's beliefs one way or another?

Personally, I don't care about a player's beliefs either.

But, while we see player after player praise God for their performance and teams from pee-wee to the pros congregating to pray before and after games, we don't exactly ever see any of them stop and say, publicly at least, "You guys know what? I'm an atheist, and I'm not going to do what the rest of you do. Cool?" Yes, this is a story. And for the reason I just explained.

But if life has always pretty much been a confirmation of your (not necessarily you personally, although perhaps) beliefs, and everyone around you has pretty much always thought the same about things as you do and you've never really been challenged on your beliefs (except for maybe this one time by some crazy dude rambling out loud outside a McDonald's and maybe by a store you frequent saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas") then I can see how this would be a "non-story." Because it wouldn't be.

Kind of like what DiCaprio's Howard Hughes says to Katharine Hepburn's rich-ass family when he visits them in Connecticut: "You don't care about money, because you've always had it."

In other words, don't take for granted what may seem perfectly natural.

How many atheists football players can you name?

Besides the closeted Tebow I can't name a single "christian" one.

Football wasn't like the last bastion for Christian athletes..

It's a non story..its like running an article on the first black person to graduate college.

I understand you've become a bit jaded by all the "firsts" for people who have nothing directly to do with you, and I agree that the "First black" has now reached a bit of a "who cares anymore" spot when we're talking about the "First black person to own a BMW and also be elected to public office" kind of stuff.

But you seriously don't think the first black person to graduate college is a big deal?

No wonder you have such a hard time understanding the gravity of this situation.

And you're not even religious. Well, at least beyond some nominal nonsense.

Geez, guy.

congrats what field do you work in?

Thank you kind, sir.

When I was just a young lad, I lost my younger brother to a home invasion gone wrong. The case has never been solved. I told myself ever since that day I would be part of a force who puts and holds individuals accountable for their wrongdoings.

In one month I will be moving to Las Vegas to start training for the forensic investigation section at the Nevada department of public safety.

Sorry to hear about your brother. That's awesome that you are doing something with purpose in his memory. Congrats on the new job and good luck.

Damn, dude.

That's intense. Sorry about your brother.

Good luck in Las Vegas. I don't think it would be for me, but hopefully it will work for you.

By the way, how did you come to be a Vol fan?

Did you do the forensic anthropology here?

Closet? And what makes it pathetic?

With how thin-skinned Christians are about critiques i try not to insult them in any way, but I guess it's fine to call us pathetic?

I'm not quite sure what his point is either. It's a bit incoherent. But I think it is something like this:

1. Given how many posters are open about their non-belief/atheism on this anonymous board that hardly anyone reads, relatively speaking (no offense, Freak), it stands to reason that...
2...A very public figure openly claiming the same in a traditionally strong Christian milieu (i.e., American football) is not a big deal.
3. Therefore, who cares.

With logic like that, you can go back and rewrite all the Greek classics. Tell Socrates and Plato and Aristotle and the gang how stupid they were.

You might find this odd but I don't find the first anything because of my skin color even remotely newsworthy. It's a half assed attempt to drum up some nonexistent pride.

There is NO gravity to the situation of some dude who plays football saying he doesn't believe in god. Oh lawd have mercy!

All those have one thing in common an atheist doesn't have. Given the number of players that profess a gratitude to belief in something after winning a game, this is at the very least an interesting tidbit.

Just once I would like a player to give thanks to winning the genetic lottery in a post game speech. That would be spectacular.

What you don't seem to understand is there are a lot of people who find it of interest. That makes it noteworthy.

The fact that you are still talking about it on the thread weeks later is an indication of what this news means to people.
