That cop wasn't acting like somebody that was on edge... he stalked the guy in his cul de sac, snapped pictures of the guys boat/truck and then popped out of the car knowing good and damn well that he was going to get a more escalated reaction out of the civilian... plus the guy was on his own property.

No reason or excuse for that cop to to get out of the car.

So you can see everything going on behind the camera? You can see all the actions that led to the officer getting out of the vehicle?

No you can't.

And you don't know if the guy suddenly stuck his hand in his pocket in a threatening manner or not. But you're so eager to damn the cops you can't even consider alternative possibilities in what happened. And can't even be objective enough to think both sides are equally wrong here.

It's almost embarrassing that he refuses to think that way.

Go back and watch the video.

@ 2:15, the cop tells him to take his hand out his pocket. At this moment, the civilian has one hand in his pocket and the other hand holding the phone/camera

@ 2:18, the cop pulls out his gun

@ 2:21, the phone/camera goes side ways as he is still holding it, you then see that with his other hand, he places a cellphone and a set of keys on his pick up/SUV. At this point, anyone with common sense would realize that you can't hold a phone with one hand and put personal items on the hood of a vehicle simultaneously unless both of your hands are out of your pocket. It would also be easy for the cop as he is approaching to tell if the guy really has a gun

@2:26, we see the civilain is holding the camera/phone with one hand while he is back up and pointing/gesticulating at the cop with his left hand, meanwhile, the cop is backing him down with his gun drawn for several feet across the driveway.

@2:35, the cop is still harping about taking his hands out his pocket, while the video clearly shows that the civilians left hand/index finger pointing at the cop and gesticulating while he is simultaneously holding the phone/camera with the other hand

@2:55, the civilian asks him why he got out of the vehicle, "You're taking a picture of me, I'm taking a picture of you..."

@3:00, the cop says as he is standing in the guys driveway "I don't have to leave..."

@3:47, the cop pulls out the "crazy guy card"

In conclusion, it is obvious that this civilian must have 3 hands and he's crazy...

The guy didn't have a gun. So he didn't arrest him. Had the guy not pulled good hands out of his pocket then the officer could have used reasonable suspicion. He didn't.

Reasonable suspicion of what??? What would that have allowed the cop to do... empty his magazine in a cul de sac during an investigation that started out as a simple assed (alleged) illegal parking violation?

To search the guy. Stop acting like he opened fire on the guy.

Did you even look at the video? The guy has one hand in view of the camera as he is pointing at the cop and another holding the camera. When the cop first told him to get his hands out his pocket, he put whatever was in his hands or in his pocket on the hood of the car while his other hand was holding the phone.

Are you all not seeing the same video I'm seeing?

Apparently not.

You don't have to open fire on a guy to still be accused of a crime (even someone earlier in the thread mentioned something about waving a gun around like an idiot).

The cop was the one with the gun and the responsibility to show restraint.

Yep, I sure did.

Now can you answer the question of whether his pockets were empty or not?

He pulled out a cellphone and some keys out of somewhere. The cop was close enough at one point to smell his cologne when he first pulled his gun out by the hood of the truck. If the cop really felt that the guy was armed, he wouldn't have tried to back the guy down like he did.

That's not a good analogy. Being asked to get out of the car or pull you hands out of your pockets is not equatable to getting physically hurt or having your property stolen. If you are being asked something unreasonable or being harassed, then you need to stand up for yourself and report it. But if you want to get uppity over a simple request, you aren't being very smart.

The thing is, often being asked to get out of your car or take your hands out of your pockets is far from reasonable.

I can somewhat agree with the last statement. It didn't take me long to realize that the Chattanooga PD was the biggest gang around and not doing what they say is generally very hazardous to one's health. That fact really in no way justifies anything they do though.

Look, this is simple. I can say the cop was being an overbearing ass. On the other hand you can say the guy was acting like a wafflecock through from the get go. That's called being objective.

Try it. And you might even enjoy seeing other points of view from time to time.

You white folks are gonna soon see how this drug war robs you of life and liberty. Poor kid was on a first date trying to score a little reefer and ended up dead.

And of course, cops and coroners don't lie... the system is 100% trustworthy, right?

An ‘unarmed’ white teen was shot dead by police. His family asks: Where is the outrage? - The Washington Post

Police say the officer was a victim of “attempted murder” by Hammond, who was driving the vehicle. According to Seneca Police Chief John Covington, Hammond was driving the car “toward the officer” who was trying to make the stop.

His death was classified as a homicide; an autopsy conducted by the Oconee County Coroner’s Office did not specify from which direction the bullets hit Hammond’s body.

On Wednesday, Hammond’s family released the results of a private autopsy, which concluded that both bullets entered Hammond’s body from the back. According to the autopsy, the second bullet proved to be fatal, entering from the back of Hammond’s left side and passing through his chest, piercing his lungs and heart.

I have no idea if his pockets were empty. I'm just telling you that by the cops actions (and for that matter, the civilians actions) the cop didn't seem to be in any threat.

I can say the cop was being an overbearing ass.

I can't, on the other hand, see fault with the civilian... no matter what went on before the video was filming. Had the civilian broken the law before the video started, the cop would have arrested him... it's that simple. But what probably happened (and I'm speculating), is that the cop was stalking the guy and the civilian may have flipped him off or made some type of gesture... then the cop decides to get in the guys personal space and draw a weapon.

No reason for him to be pulling a weapon, either way.

Just want to say that I'll stick my neck out too and call for a 10 win regular season.

Carry on.

What did this cop have to gain by bothering this guy? He should have just left and moved on...

Man... I hope you're right. This fan base needs* a double digit wins season followed by something like a Sugar Bowl. That would certainly hit the spot.

*I obviously use the word need loosely as people really don't "need" anything in regards to sports but you guys know what I mean.
