Sure, we might say that it doesn't bode as poorly for Croom if the attack was provoked. Sure, we can say that Bruce wasn't exactly completely innocent. That makes a difference. But to sit around and praise Croom for clocking somebody is just insane.

And what is this whole "what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room" nonsense? It isn't Vegas. It isn't international waters. Do you think this holds for everything? If a player beat someone into a coma in the locker room? If there was legitimate persistent bullying? If they raped another player? Look, I get that a punch isn't as severe, but the "whatever happens in" mantra is absurd, and it is not that much less absurd just because the situation is less dramatic.

Unless Bruce punched him first, Croom screwed up. Croom deserved to be punished. And Croom sure as heck doesn't deserve to be praised, and lifted up as a hero of the program. Punching a much smaller freshman, somebody who was decent enough to take a blue shirt, and who seemed to love UT, is not heroic.

Were you there? Have you ever been on a team? The locker room is sacred ground. It's nobody's business but the teams inside those walls. Obviously under extreme circumstances that you suggested that wouldn't be the case, but something like this happens everywhere. This is not a big deal unless this was something that occurred more than a couple times between Croom and Bruce.

Of two things I'm confident:

1) We have a head coach who will not tolerate anything detrimental to players, the team, or the program.

2) There's a home for Joc at UTC* if he's a decent guy who's ready to learn from mistakes or start over in a better situation.

* The road to NFL draft day now also runs through Chattanooga.

No, and if you read my posts you'd know this. I am not condemning Croom, or saying what did or did not happen. I am criticizing VN posters who know nothing other than "Bruce was disrespectful and got punched" and who praise Croom for that.

Here we go with another issue that should have stayed in the locker room. These locker room snitches are going to ruin football as we know it. I said it before, the locker room should be sacred. If you never played football then you cannot possibly understand.

I'm not making lite of bullying, but I got in fights in school as well as other kids. I never seen nobody quit class or sports over getting punched. I'm not saying that isn't the case, it just seems odd to get hit once, and be that scared.

Thank God we actually have upperclassmen who give a damn about the traditions now.

BTW, if Croom really did punch a kid in the face then I feel much better about our receiving corps this year. That's the attitude they've been missing.

More than anything I wanted to point out how you and I have a very strong disagreement in how a locker room should function. We shouldn't even be discussing this or know about it. Bullying is one thing and should not be tolerated, but a scuffle should never be a surprise or see the light of day.

That makes me guess there's more that happened. Maybe everyone kept making fun of him after, and he got tired of it.
