Von Pearson Update

None of this most recent conjecture states the obvious, that there must be a decision by officials not to charge him, so I'll just assume you are all assuming that is the case because I'll assume you are all really smart people.

Almost certain we will get an update tomorrow of some kind while CBJ is interviewed at SEC Media Days. Rucker, Stokes, Callahan...someone's going to ask about VP.

Chuck from the sports source ( not going to try his last name right now) said yesterday that he had been told, academic issues are presenting a large problem also. Return looked somewhat doubtful. But we all know how sources can be so take it for what its worth.

Not this again. We've been told by multiple sources that academics were fine, its the legal process holding up his return. I wish everyone would get on the same page.

yep, I've heard both sides several times also guys. It was just repeated recently so I posted it... Like I said Tifwiw.

Bleacher Report writer Brad Shephard said per Volquest, there is a plan in place to redshirt him if he isn't back in time for this season. So, it seams the coaches are optimistic he will be back at some point.

yeah, the three other panelists yesterday leaned toward him being cleared... but like us, the time frame was the mystery question.

I doubt the validity of this report. There is no way, in my opinion , that Von accepts a redshirt year. He is already 23 years old, since he graduated high school in 2010. Accepting a redshirt season would put him at 24 or 25 years of age before he gets to the NFL. I just do not see him being willing to wait that late in life to start a professional career.

So you think he would be better off to try to make it into the league with 1 season at a division 1 school, with disciplinary issues? The best course for him would be to play this season if he's cleared of the accusations, obviously. If that doesn't happen, then redshirtting would be in his best interest, IMO. 1 more year of age but a high draft pick would be worth it. BTW, the NFL doesn't have a maximum entry age.

I'm not sure the purpose of the report was to say if Von would or would not accept, just that the coaches would try and felt good about him being cleared. Even if he has no intention, I hope they would try.

Well three years ago, he was flipping burgers.

It's not worth anything. Von actually tweeted out a picture of his grades/transcript from Spring semester. Had a 3.0

Good. At least that is something tangible.

He clearly had been hearing (or reading) the rumbling and evidently wanted to clear that up. I too had heard media questions about his potential grade issues but decided to stop listening to them/give them any weight after seeing his tweet. Looks like that Chuck dude was going all Jimmy Hyams with those comments.

I respect the principle Jones and UT are trying to live by but VP's case points to the problem with it. Unless there is something more than has been reported then there's no good reason to keep him off the team. Is it really that unheard of for a guy in college to get a little too much happy juice in him then do something stupid like that? A guy on "Baggage" last night put as one of his secrets that "when I get drunk, I show my junk".

Really stupid and immature thing to do... but worthy of being drug out like this? I really don't think so unless there's more to it.

Thanks again. out of 4 people, he was the only one that went that route. But he also said that someone told him. Maybe one day they will lay out a charge or dismiss , and the" heard it from a friend who", stuff can stop.

Well said. Hope none of what he was accused of ever happened and that both he and the accuser (I'll choose not to get into the politics of what should happen to her if she made the whole thing up) go on to live healthy, productive lives.

Does a player who's been suspended over alleged discipline issues qualify for a redshirt? I'm thinking they're not.

Has he been officially suspended BECAUSE of discipline issues? And even if you are, if you're cleared and didn't play football that season, you haven't forfeited any eligibility. If he was found liable THEN I believe you're correct.
