The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

this is apparently from ESPN even though the link didn't work at all for me.

it is strange that MTSU is a more difficult game than either Houston or WVU. most actually are saying these chances are way too high.

Houston will kick their ass and that game is in Houston. They are more athletic across the board.

Maybe they are thinking mtsu is gonna play much harder on senior night, hilarious that they scheduled vandy for that.

IMO they wanted to avoid visiting team fan attendance. Want to make sure all seats are available for blue and white.

lol @ Vandymania listing the SEC Championship game on their schedule as if they have any chance of playing in it.

Vanderbilt Football and SEC Championship are two things that will never go together, so I took the liberty of fixing it for them.

Some of those threads near the top are funny. Some of those posters are so delusional and its the time of year they start trying to convince themselves they will be good. The rest of the posters basically have no faith and have come to grips with reality. I enjoy looking through those threads every few days to see what those losers are saying.

Just went through their threads, they actually think ole miss and UT will be toss up's for win's. Wow. Must be something in the water over there in Candyland.

I hope they don't spend 7 days celebrating their win against Austin Peay. They won't have much to celebrate the rest of the way.

Looking at that schedule, 1-11 is very possible. I don't see Vandy winning any SEC games. Houston, MTSU, and Western Kentucky should probably beat Vandy as well.

Let's say they do go 1-11.

What do you do at that point if you're David Williams? I mean, you HAVE to fire Mason, but who do you replace him with? Who would take that job? The entire SEC is even more competitive now than it was in late 2010 when Franklin took over. UT has top 15 talent now, soon to be top 10, and even UK will be a tough out in the future with Stoops at the helm.

There are no recruiting advantages for Vandy--in fact, they have major disadvantages. Getting the roster competitive again would require a miracle, and there is no stocked cupboard of redshirted 3*s like Bobby Johnson left James Franklin.

I think Vandy's best option is to find a coach who runs a gimmicky offense that can, at the very least, help them win their OOC games, or find another old coach near the end of his career who knows how to build a program and can rebuild the roster over the next 3-4 years.

If I was Williams, I would call Mack Brown and offer him a huge contract. He's washed up, of course, but I think he could make Vandy a bowl team again and at least stabilize the roster over the next 5-6 years before he retires for good.

I'd say 1-11 is likely and 3-9 is the absolute ceiling. I think they keep Mason, unless they win 0. As you stated, they're not going to find anyone better. I think Vanderbilt will just accept having a program similar to Kansas.

If they go 1-11, which is very likely, you have to fire Mason. The guy just doesn't seem like head coach material. Who do you replace Mason with? I have no idea. I doubt anyone will be able to replicate Franklin's success (much of that success was due to a stockpile of decent players left by Bobby Johnson, catching teams while they were down/heavily injured/or both, and playing a laughable non-conference schedule). I agree that Vandy's best option would be to try to run some sort of gimmicky offense (Georgia Tech's triple option would probably be a good choice for Vandy to emulate). I doubt they will ever be able to win the East or even challenge for it, however, with the right coach and system they should be able to win enough games to make a bowl on a somewhat consistent basis.

Thanks.
Yes, you are correct. You're probably the first person to realize what that name means.

Fish biologist myself!

Took this pic on the Henry's Fork a few weeks ago!

Cool photo. Where is Henry's Fork? I've heard the name, but I'm not sure if I've been there before.

Thanks. Idaho, has one of the largest salmonfly hatches in the west. Crazy to see 3"+ stoneflies in swarms, and the size of the trout that start looking up for them.

Nice pic! I'm headed to the Henry's Fork and the Madison River area to do a little fly fishing starting Tuesday. I'll miss the salmonfly hatch but I'm hoping the trout are still looking up, maybe for terrestrials.

The fishing is fine, water is a little warm around 12-3, but you should do well.

PMD emergers, caddis pupa, and as you said - terrestrials are working great. The locals like to keep it quiet, but the Teton River > Henry's Fork for fly fishing, especially right now.

Also, O'Rourkes Restaurant in Driggs is owned by UT fans and they have tons of UT stuff all over the walls.

Good luck!

Hey you two....less fishing and more Vandy bashing....let's stay focused here...

Fair enough. I thought our approach was more psychological. Vandy fan gets on this thread and expects to see bashing...they then find out that we've turned their thread into a fly fishing sub topic. The realize their football program is taken less seriously than fly fishing. Ultimate bash.

As I was at the Luke Bryan concert last night at West End, I noticed something incredibly embarrassing.

The end zone wall, that is closed with seats behind it, has the word "champion" on it 5 or 6 times. The problem is that the words "Music City Bowl", "Liberty Bowl", and "Compass Bowl" are preceeding most of them.

It is truly sad that in order for the Vanderbilt AD to try and build a football tradition they resort to posting their bowl championships on the walls of their 30,000 seat stadium.

It makes me appreciate the National Championship years and retired numbers of all-time great football players posted in Neyland.

Sorry for the thread hijack.......

**** Vandy!!!!!!

Thanks for the info, BH! I go up to that area every July for a few weeks. I'm getting a later start this year.

How's the access on the Teton? I've fished Henry's Fork from Box Canyon down to below the Ranch. The Warm river and tribs always treats me good too.
