I feel like (1) Nike requires you to use Nike balls, and (2) UT football players in the past have talked about hating the GST balls

Nike requires the emblem be on the football used, and Wilson obviously will not put it on their football, so Wilson is out. The ball we will use is not made by Nike, but it will have the Nike emblem on it. I read in another thread that the Wilson ball is easier to throw and catch IDK :question:.

I think we should put a little tiny Confederate flag on the back of helmets this season, just to piss people off!

Well the flag that most people think is the confederate flag is in fact the southern cross. Also known as the battle flag for the army of Tennessee.
The more squared version is the battle flag for the army of northern Virginia which is what they are debating come down from the state capitol in south carolina.

I've heard quite the opposite about the Wilson footballs being easier.

I have not thrown and caught them to compare, but Deerpark mentioned in another thread that QB's and WR's preferred the Wilson and kickers preferred the other ball. It could be that they are just used to the Wilson. They have been using the new ball since spring though, used it in the O&W game.

This actually sounds most like what I remember. Seems to me it was maybe Wilhoit who was most vocal about it

It is a Nike-branded ball, made by a company called Big Game. They were used in spring practice, minus the Swoosh.

Kickers do not like the Wilson footballs, they are a little bit softer, which causes issues for some kickers. It's more mental than anything, as UT discovered when they did some blind tests the last time the Wilson contract was up.

As I've said before, the Nike ball is made by a third party that also sells balls under their own brand. If their product was actually superior, we would have gone to them instead of Wilson.

QBs and WRs prefer the Wilson ball, but Nike requires its schools to use the branded ball, so Wilson is out.

Question for you, DP. What was with that JC Penney in Mufreesboro that put out UT shirts with the new Nike wordmark on it a week ago? How did they get it so early if the apparel is being released so much later?

A lot of the Nike and Adidas products at stores like JCP and Kohls are Nike- or Adidas-licensed, but don't actually come from those companies. That goes for their college gear as well as the Nike t's and shorts in their stores that you don't see anywhere else. The labels are a little different, I know Adidas' were called the "Go-To T's" or something like that.

In those cases, the factory prints up a bunch of their licensed Nike t-shirts and ships them to JCP all at once. JCP then ships them out to stores in various states. Notice you didn't see coaches' polos or anything else that would come directly from Nike.

The stores in the Knoxville area never received them because they will get the line of regular Nike Tennessee products, just like the Alumni Halls and Houndogs of the world, which will come directly from Nike.

You would occasionally see that kind of stuff on the Strip or around tailgates back then. So much so that I think there were one or two threads on here about it.

The QBs would wear them in practice, too.

I thought the green jerseys were just another version of the "don't hit me bro" jerseys certain players wore in practice.

The only green stuff I remember had to do with the coach that died in the early 90s, and he was of Irish descent.

I haven't really cared much(Adidas v Nike) either way.
But if I am understanding you correctly, Our unis may look better, our kickers will not really notice and our pivotal QBs and WRs will be less happy. So yay Nike? :ermm:

Ahh, but it's the American way. For every 3 cents you save on product, you spend 3 cents extra in taxes for the unemployed. Then add an additional 1 cent for overseas advertising (because too many Americans are jobless and can't afford to buy the product) and you have our current economic beliefs :good!:
