Cheating Under Rick Barnes

@BDavisAAS: Per Texas statement, former men's basketball coach Rick Barnes did not know "or was involved in any academic improprieties."

What part of this do some people on here not understand?

Since you agree with him, could you show us a quote where Texas has said that it's Rick's fault?

Texas is standing by the statement that nothing improper happened. By chance if something is discovered then they will try to distance themselves from it and try to pass the responsibility on to someone who is no longer there. I reiterate that I am in no way saying Coach Barnes is guilty of anything just that this is what Texas will do if something is uncovered. This is the way things work at Universities and a lot of other corporations for that matter. Its just a CYA method.

I don't recall anyone posting that Barnes is guilty. All I said is that the accusation puts a dark cloud over our basketball program.

How does that translate to Barnes is guilty?

Just because he's being accused by trolling writers of wrong doing, doesn't mean there's a dark cloud over the program.

What would you call all the articles and columns being written online and in newspapers about this subject? Also why is Texas launching an investigation? Are you reading what people are saying? Surely I want them to find nothing on Rick Barnes. My boy has a lot at stake here. Our returning players are wondering, dang, we gotta go through this again? Of course they are being told not to worry, just like before.

But at any rate....there are haters out there who will go all out to bring us down. The cloud doesn't go away until they clear Barnes. That's just the way it is and the way it's gonna be until the dust settles.

Now I'm not the enemy here. I'm A Vol fan who is directly and emotionally connected to this team. I'm on your side.

Just because UTex says he had no knowledge of the incident doesn't mean either that Barnes is in the clear or that the statement is even true. Furthermore, if he had no knowledge, and the accusations are true, that qualifies as failure to monitor IMO.

Which means Texas takes the blunt of the punishment. Wouldn't there have to be a show-cause or something as well for it to follow Barnes here?

If he's guilty of failing to monitor, he will get the punishment wherever he is if I understand correctly. If that stuff did go down, it's hard to imagine Barnes getting off scot free.

Someone who actually knows what they're talking about, correct me if I'm wrong.

Auntee, you're free to be worried all you want, but I'm not worried, especially when we are talking about a guy who has no NCAA infractions on his resume to my knowledge.

@BDavisAAS: Patterson insists that former men's coach Rick Barnes' departure "had nothing to do with academics." Barnes simply didn't win enough.

Same excuse was used when Phil Fulmer was fired. Can you believe it? He won a national championship!

Doesn't anyone believe that Phil should still be the head football coach?

Unless I'm missing something, I don't understand how one could think there's zero chance of Barnes getting in trouble. At this point in time anyway.

I don't understand how one could think there's a chance that he's in trouble. Have you seen anything of substance to think that there is a chance that he's in trouble? I haven't.

We wouldn't be discussing it and this thread wouldn't exist if that were the case.

The reason I don't think it's a big deal bc there have been numerous non stories that have printed by writers looking for clicks through the years. The only thing I have seen quoted by any writer has come from the same story....it's a total non story until the NCAA decides it means anything

I'd agree with you if Texas hadn't launched an independent investigation into the matter. If you don't bat a lash to the accusations and the fact that Texas contracted a investigation, it sounds like delusion to me.

FTR, I've been on the Barnes train since he became available. I hope nothing comes of it, but I haven't been anywhere near convinced that it's something to write off.

maybe just for the 4 years after he was let go -- it couldnt have been any worse than the 2 idiots that replaced him.

Of the 3, who do you think will have the most success next season at their new school, Rick Barnes, Shaka Smart, or Steve Prohm? And, how do you rank each for 2015-16?
