Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

DP how close are these to what you've seen?

That number font would send some on here over the edge. Of course that's probably going to be true no matter what. I'm not immune to it, the black outline around the numbers on the away Jersey used to drive me insane. The changes on those are pretty tame though.

That's comforting. That mock up looks like he's wearing jersey # 1S. I thought we were going to be the first school with alphanumeric jersey #'s. What a relief!

:lolabove:

I thought the same thing. I thought the player's number was "IS."

Notice he didn't say anything about the helmet? :loco:

J/K!!!

DP already confirmed that there has been an alternate helmet submitted, but it's up to the school to decide if they want it or not. Same thing with the alternate uniforms two years ago.....but the school decided against the helmets at the time.

I think that minus the pattern on the shoulders, our uniforms the last two years were nearly perfect, particularly the number font based on the Power T and the only thing Nike should have changed was the logo on the chest. Alas, that's not what happened.

For the 1,000th time, the things that Adidas put out WERE the "right" color.

If the shoulder pattern is gone. I'll be happy :)

Amen. I will be happy to see better quality materials and a finished product. On the Adidas jerseys it really bugged me to see those loose strings around the seams, letters and numbers poking out everywhere on the close up camera views of the players.

It would be nice if they would put a couple of alt helmet ideas out to the public like a trial balloon and take comments on them before they decide not to use them.

I know this paints me as arrogant or trollish, but I would much rather be lambasted by a hundred people for being an idiot than to spoon feed those same people with a blue font. Irony is a lonely justice, but all the sweeter for it.

That said, if a hundred people missed the joke, I probably undersold it.

Eliquently said.

Home uniforms and road uniforms are orange and white.

Whether they are "basically the same" is going to be a matter of opinion. There are distinct differences, so I'm sure some people will go into a panic mode about everything being different. I look at them as very similar to what we have with some new and unique touches.

As I've said several times, Smokey Gray and Anthracite (a darker gray) are part of our new overall color palette. They will replace black across all sports.

Great. They've taken away the good looking stripes on the pants and given us those horrid Kentucky checks on the sleeves. (Said as a joke but not without fear).

I think that image is highly underestimated by many posters, when it comes to recruiting. You either win big or sell an image that kids want to be part of. Many like to herald Alabama but refuse to see the obvious in hiring the best coach in college football who sells championships and countless NFL players. Our coach can't do that so he sells an image, a vision, and a hand full of NFL players. Nike is nothing but a vehicle for updating the school's profile. Walk through any mall and every sports apparel store is fronted with Nike. Dominated by Nike. I'm not even a shoe enthusiast and I always stop to check what Nike has going on. Now the best marketing staff in the country has that brand in its arsenal. Just another step forward.

It seems shallow and unrealistic, but the truth is when you think you look good, you play better. Looking good gives confidence. Kids believe this and, as a coach of middle school kids, I believe it too. No different than an adult going on a job interview. The new suit makes you feel more confident. That "swoosh" is going to make our guys feel good. How deep into the 1st quarter that feeling lasts remains to be seen. Lol

Tennessee's contract with Nike does not include helmets. If UT wanted to do an alternate helmet, Nike would design it, but it would be Tennessee's responsibility to cover the cost of purchasing them.

The helmets range from $350-600 each, depending on size and the finish applied. You need about 125 of them, so $45-75,000.

Unless we go water boy style and share them. Then we could afford nice helmets

You haven't paid very close attention to Nike uniforms, then.

Look, I've said it before and I'll say it again, MOST of the "problems" that people have with our Adidas uniforms are "problems" that are found with every manufacturer. It is what it is. You notice it because it's your team. Nike's jerseys will occasionally rip and tear. Letters and numbers will occasionally be crooked. Jerseys will still be skin-tight which may distort the numbers at times. It's not an Adidas thing.

Awesome. Those were my least favorite parts of that mock up.

Simple question(s) for you, DP. Do you like them/do you think the majority of the fan base will like them? TIA.

A majority will, but I'm sure a vocal minority will scream and yell anyway. They're different enough that I'm sure it will upset some traditionalists but not different enough that the people that are distracted by shiny objects will love them.

I know. I was just poking fun.
