Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

I think we should change the school colors to Green and White, rather than Orange and White. Key reason why being, remember your Davy Crockett: "Born on the mountaintops of Tennessee, greenest state in the land of the free...." etc. And happy circumstance of this change, no other team in the SEC has green as any part of their color scheme. We no longer have to put up with Gator fans looking at a Vol fan wearing an orange shirt and blue jeans and saying, "I see you're wearing Florida's colors." Green is all ours, all our own.

Who's with me?

[I woulda put this in some serious blue font, but green seemed more appropriate. Treat the colors as synonymous here]

Who else is excited for the new uni's to come out instead of panicking about minor changes? Cause I can't wait to see what they look like!:) Go Vols...

When they are revealed, half of this board will explode with complaints that the uniforms are way too radical and represent too much of a change. The other half will complain that they are boring and not enough has changed.

Not if you make them Green and White. Then you will effectively unite all of Vol Nation on one side of that formula. :)

What is your personal opinion? From reading your posts I loosely gathered that you were a little underwhelmed with the renderings but seemed to like the sample better?

That will be their problem. Nothing they say or do will change anything, so they might as well embrace it.

So why do the coaches sell the history of the program to the recruits?

I get it that the players don't know who most of those players are...so why did Butch feel it was important to put "Gator Bowl" on the ring? The Gator Bowl has been a mid level bowl since before any of the players that got one of these rings can remember...BUT it sounds better than "Taxslayer Bowl."

I understand the value of marketing, but can't let the the recruits/athletes run the program.

The recruits aren't running things. Butch and company is just smart enough to realize Nike is more fashionable/desirable. Adidas doesn't even appeal to probably 90% of people. I've maybe had 2 pair of Adidas in my 32 yrs of life. I don't wear a lot of UT gear because I don't want an Adidas hat and shirt with Nike shoes. Tacky to me. Maybe not to everyone, but for the majority, Nike puts out cooler looking stuff. It only make sense to me. Adidas is kind of a turn off, if you will. Where as Nike is sexy.

Adidas= lipstick on a pig.
Nike= Model in lingerie

We just got better looking in most people's opinion no matter how stupid it may sound, but that's how it is. And it can only help

This is kind of like a Chevy over Ford thing. Ruger vs Winchester, Budweisir vs Bud light, etc. It's preference. Most people with a fashionable side favor Nike. More plain people may prefer Adidas. Then some humble folks just don't care and thankful for whatever they can get.

Blue font just takes the fun out, now doesn't it?

I know this paints me as arrogant or trollish, but I would much rather be lambasted by a hundred people for being an idiot than to spoon feed those same people with a blue font. Irony is a lonely justice, but all the sweeter for it.

That said, if a hundred people missed the joke, I probably undersold it.

I think that image is highly underestimated by many posters, when it comes to recruiting. You either win big or sell an image that kids want to be part of. Many like to herald Alabama but refuse to see the obvious in hiring the best coach in college football who sells championships and countless NFL players. Our coach can't do that so he sells an image, a vision, and a hand full of NFL players. Nike is nothing but a vehicle for updating the school's profile. Walk through any mall and every sports apparel store is fronted with Nike. Dominated by Nike. I'm not even a shoe enthusiast and I always stop to check what Nike has going on. Now the best marketing staff in the country has that brand in its arsenal. Just another step forward.

I really don't care which company makes Tennessee "stuff". I just want the color to be correct, or at least closer to yellow than red. Nike seemed to get it right last time but it took them a couple of stabs first so maybe they can do it again. I still have one of Nike's caps from yester-years. I guess I will have to wait and see.

I think that minus the pattern on the shoulders, our uniforms the last two years were nearly perfect, particularly the number font based on the Power T and the only thing Nike should have changed was the logo on the chest. Alas, that's not what happened.

For the 1,000th time, the things that Adidas put out WERE the "right" color.
