Where Do We Go Now?

I don't understand why someone would forego surgery if they are going to continue playing injured.

While I don't have an exact quote from him, he has said that he didn't feel like he could have the surgery and then return in time for this season.
Perhaps he feels like he will be recruited over after this next season?!?!

Owens is better than anything out there right now, that I can see. He'll obviously keep gaining weight and by the end of the year he had passed Carmichael and was starting to look more comfortable and had some very nice blocks. The fact is that he needs a redshirt year and Barnes is looking for immediate help. Not sure Alexander is really a payoff in this area as he could also benefit from redshirt. Owens at least has bodied up in the SEC. Mistake in my opinion. They should have worked to keep Owens. Unless of course Barnes hired Oliver thinking it would be a sure thing to land Izundu (Sp?).

They didn't run off Owens, not sure what you're getting at?

I looked, and no, I don't think he weighs 205lbs.
Who's laughung me off the forum?
Your earlier post, "What guys are listed at and what they actually are, are two very different things. Tariq was listed by some as 200lbs, he was actually 175lbs. Also, there's no guarantee he grows more, people thought that about Stokes, he didn't grow an inch after 17 years old, so counting on him growing in the future into factoring his current height seems like a stretch." You just lost your credibility with anyone who looks at his official photo in Basketball Time in Tennessee. That dude is just as close to 235 as he is to 175.

TARIQ OWENS HIMSELF SAID HE WEIGHED 175lbs

Are you calling him a liar, or are you saying he's illiterate and can't read a scale?

Absolutely.

There's a big guy, Georgios Papagiannis (so?), that's currently in Greece, doesn't plan to come back to the states til June. It's possible that if he comes over in June or July many schools will not have room for him, could be a situation where keeping an open spot is definitely a good idea. He's a 7'1" center who's a top 100 prospect and has pro potential, has been playing up in the Greece pro leagues and more than held his own.

Obviously, I'd love that scenario. However, does Papagoannis playing in the pro leagues hurt his amateur status?

Where has it been said that they didn't work to keep Owens?

I agree with your thoughts on his potential, and was a big proponent of his from early on. I just think it was already decided that he wanted a fresh start, and by transferring, he gets the RS year he needed all along. That probably wasn't an option if he had stayed at TN, either under Tyndall or Barnes.

Where did I ever use the term "run off"? Are you saying Barnes worked hard to convince him to stay? You need to check yourself bro. Slipping.

Owens wanted to go back home and wanted assurances from Barnes that Tyndall made, he wasn't make promises to a player he didn't commit, not his fault OWENS was scared of completion, bro.

SeniorDrill, you seem like the guy to ask for this with your carnival weight guessing skills. I'm trying to win this whole jar of jelly beans. I just have to guess exactly how many are in it. Please help, I love jelly beans.

dude, I've looked at the picture, I have the magazine sitting right here. I don't know where you are getting that from. He looks like he weighs 150 to me with those little toothpick legs and skinny shoulders. But what do I know I weigh 230 and I am 5'11"

Ah. When SD dies he'll be arguing with St Pete, "That train missed me 10 yards. show me the film.
This is a conspiracy."

Care to give us a personal opinion of the photo since we've only had two takers out of all posters?

Let me help:
BTO: Roust, you didn't say "run off." Sorry if I gave they impression you did.
Roust: No problem.

Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce uneasiness, apprehension, fear or worry (obsessions), repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing the associated anxiety (compulsions), or a combination of such obsessions and compulsions. Symptoms of the disorder include excessive washing or cleaning, repeated checking, extreme hoarding, preoccupation with sexual, violent or religious thoughts, relationship-related obsessions, aversion to particular numbers and nervous rituals such as opening and closing a door a certain number of times before entering or leaving a room. These symptoms are time-consuming, might result in loss of relationships with others, and often cause severe emotional and financial distress. The acts of those who have OCD may appear paranoid and potentially psychotic. However, people with OCD generally recognize their obsessions and compulsions as irrational and may become further distressed by this realization. Despite the irrational behaviour, OCD is associated with above-average intelligence

Does any of this sound familiar?

Here's the pic.
Just looking at the 2 pictures, I see a considerable difference in upper body muscle mass. Compare shoulders and width of upper torso. Muscle is heavier,so Willie would weigh more.
Google Tariq Owens pictures.
Some of his high school and AAU pics are a lot more revealing.
Also consider his history. As a jr in HS he was listed 6-9 170.
And pics do add weight. Just ask my DIL or any woman.

PS: Pics don't show em glutes either.

Ok, I think it is unbelievable we are still discussing this in this thread but I will weigh in on it. SD, you can not always look at a pic and tell what someone weighs. But why is this even an issue. BTO and anyone else who said Owens said it himself is totally correct. I heard Owens laugh in a radio interview after one of the games when asked this question. At the time he said he was trying hard to maintain 185. So let us just drop this total nonsense. Who is coming in next is all any of us really care about. Owens is gone and I wish him well. I personally will miss seeing him play. But he is gone by his own choosing, so next up !!!
