Durant in the SEC discussion (split)

Has VN stopped supporting team bb and are now only concerned about the new guy sending another player to the nba like he did at his last gig? If so, we should never have let the great Wade Houston get away! Oh, that's right, he only had one son.

Give me a team coach over a recruiter any day. Pearl owned Barnes and probably will again. If Donnie hadn't gotten into the mess at SM, he would do the same as Bruce!

Didn't Micheal Beasley break all of his freshman records like the very next season?

I don't think so. Maravich averaged 44 points per game (before there was a 3-point shot). Beasley didn't come anywhere close to that (especially if you throw out his 3-pointers). Besides that, Beasley came along about 40 years after Pete. Johnny Neumann, who played at Ol' Miss shortly after Pete's heyday, is the only other player I can remember who averaged in the forties.

They both blew each other out as the underdog. What are you talking about?

Just because he doesn't have muscles doesn't mean he's not strong.

One of the worst bench presses ever at the combine says he doesn't have muscles.

Im not taking anything away from his game, he's still the 2nd best player in the world, but he's not close to the first.

He's basketball strong. Not weight room strong. Theres a difference

When has he played the 4 for the majority of the game? How would Durant be able to stop a Zbo like player on defense? How could he score consistently in the paint with his back to the basket?

They went small often late in games, with him at the 4. He can't, but Z-Bo can't guard him on the perimeter either. Just because he is playing the 4 doesn't mean he has to play with his back to the basket.

FWIW the last 4 years he has played 25%, 25%, 23%, and 22% of his minutes at the 4.

Didn't he play the 5 the year they made the finals against the Spurs? I remember him playing a few minutes there.

People also don't realize how hard a bench press is with crazy long go go gadget arms like he has. Imo

I played with several guys that could barely press the bar, but get them on the court and their leverage and leg strength made up for underwhelming weight room strength.

the whole premise of this thread is silly because, unless the OP thinks KD is a football player, the SEC is not the most competitive conference in Basketball. Especially during the time KD was playing. Lets be honest any given year it's whoever wins the east (Kentucky or Florida) and everyone else is 12 seed material at best.

We are a football conference. Lately (last decade or so) Basketball has gotten more balanced top to bottom. But its basically the inverse of the Football ranks. In football we are 3-4 teams deep in each division with 2 cellar dwellers in Basketball the exact opposite.

It's not like Durant wasn't able to bust out a few reps...the dude couldn't even bench 185 once. He wasn't strong at all. But he got a lot stronger once he got in the league.

This thread is about kd. Many who post here have an undying love and devotion to superstardom and don't realize that the college atmosphere is about teaching and organizing young people to buy into a cooperative effort.

Barnes may be a great recruiter and sometimes, if you have enough natural talented bb players, your team can attain much success. However, a good coach can mold a decent assemblage of players together to ascend his team to heights above what is expected. Mears, DeVoe, O'Neill, Pearl, and Tyndall did exactly this.

Barnes may have recruited many players who found themselves in the nba, but he never won an ncaa championship. A man like Coach "K" has not only had great talent, but also has proven that he can coach them up to succeed to the final goal. Our own Pat Summitt has done the same thing on the women's side!

1-1 is a real big owning.
