First Reaction on CBJ

What was your first gut reaction when Butch Jones was named head coach at UT?

Was not happy, at all.

Egg on the face and crow in the mouth.

No problem, keep it coming, I think I could handle more and more reminders of my misguided choice all the way to a Championship in the coming years.

I thought, "Well, Hart may have bungled into a good hire." I knew he had won everywhere he had been. He was on my short list of candidates I thought could work here. My hope had been that Hart would interview him and Malzahn and a couple of other up and comers and figure out who was actually ready to make the jump. Instead, Hart just bumbled around, getting played by guys like Strong and Gundy who were just looking for raises and then finally grabbing the last viable candidate out there. But, I was cautiously optimistic it may have worked out anyway.

Great question I was a WTF guy.
I didnt think he could recruit so I wanted Strong or Golden, both of which have not recruited all that well in 2 of the best recruiting hotbeds/jobs in the country.

The weird thing to me was that I knew a little about Jones by watching some UC games. The one against us, I remember paying attention to how he acted on the sidelines and with players in warmups etc. I thought he came off like a "intense guy poser". I usually don't pay attention to opposing coaches much. Was kinda weird when he was announced, buuut now I B like...

Who is Butch Jones......here we go again!

He is doing his job thus far and deserves a lot of credit/money....I will not get all Gaga over a coach again. We are always one event away from being back to a coaching search.

He wasn't named Dooley, so I assumed Butch would be an upgrade. And he has been by a long shot.

First thought was, "This guy looks motivated and ready to prove himself but can he make it in the SEC. Can he come here and beat Bammer, Florida, and Georgia."
I believe he can but we must admit that's still a question at this point.

Went straight to Google when I heard. And whether it was coach speak or not, when he said Tennessee was his dream job, I decided then and there that I liked the man. After 2 trips thru our schedule, I like the man even more. LOVE his mentality and work ethic. If his energy could be bottled and sold, I'd order a 50 gallon drum!

I had to google him and learn cause I really didn't know much of anything about him. At least, I thought, that he was not the son of a second rate, overhyped, overrated coach of a perennial second tier SEC team.

My reaction:

I then had a beer and enjoyed it thoroughly.

hhmmm....so all we've had in the past 30 years are just another coach(s)

edit....should say last 60, but we're 8-19 since the series became annual. I just don't understand the spell.

This, and my how expectations have fallen. Ten years ago Butch would already been fired if he had a losing record after two years (yes, I know, Dooley). He has proven he can beat USC and ...well, that is it.

Almost everyone here is now a Butch recruit, THIS is the year to prove it in the fall, not NSD.
