'16 NJ QB Jarrett Guarantano (Vols commit 4/15/2015)

Looks like a more advanced Dobbs to me.

He's faster. Looks to have better zip on his throws. One underrated thing about HS QBs is that the good ones throw their receivers open and Jarrett does that.

Very impressed with this kid. Looks polished and very fluid throwing the ball. But, how do you know that he's faster than Dobbs? Did I miss the video of their footrace? I can't find a 40 time for him and while he looks good running through NewJersey high school defenses, Dobbs has looked awfully good running through SEC defenses. Not necessarily trying to flame here, just don't know what you're basing the "he's faster" comment on.

Just got around to watching this kids highlights. I can't stop seeing Colin Kaepernick...and I'm just fine with that.

So apparently, here is our current QB board:

1. JG
2. Haskins Jr.
3. Woody Barrett (5.6 3* - kind of surprising)
4. Gaines
5. Oden

I think Austin Kendall was probably somewhere between 3-5, honestly, before UT decided to push for JG and Kendall took UT off his list.

It's been, what, four or five years now? I no shame in bringing his name up. We don't have many pros like UT, but he sure has been fun to watch.

My point wasnt questioning the accuracy of anything you said, or arguing any of the points you've tried to make. You just seem to be one of those posters who makes generic statements like "so and so suck" or the super pro-ut stuff. I've been on here long enough to know those kind of posters usually offer nothing to a discussion, and are only on here trying to rile people up. Maybe you aren't, and it's your honest opinion. Idk, I don't think I've seen many posts by you

But it's not opinion, that's the thing. 1) UK football is, and generally has always been, terrible. You know that, I know that, everyone knows that. It's fact, not opinion. 2) The majority of WRs at UK were 2* and 3* recruits. Again, fact.

Compare my # of posts to # of liked posts. And I'm not a guy who copy/pastes kids' Twitter all day long. That should ease your concerns.

Sorry I hurt your feelings, but I was speaking truth... not blind, koolaid drinking nonsense.

Between 3-5? We had already accepted his commitment and he's a borderline 5 star. Honestly now, would you have said he's our 3rd, 4th or 5th choice before he decommited?

I like the lineup but IMO I'd put Gaines above Barrett. JMO, but what do I know.

Barrett is a 93 four star on 247. I really like his game. Watch his highlights if you haven't

Yes, I would. JG has always been above him. And Haskins Jr as well. The others? I'm not sure. But I know we would have traded Kendall for those 2 guys for sure.

Why did we take his commitment? 1) you don't turn down a top 100 QB unless you have another one or two that you feel very good about. JG appeared to be a lock to Rutgers 2 months ago. Now we are arguably his #1. 2) Bajakian liked Kendall a lot. But he's not here anymore.

So, what did it hurt to take his commitment if all we do is get a QB that we liked better at that time, but now are likely leading for (and a few others are very high on us)?

Also, Paul Fortenberry agrees with that QB board. Gaines and Oden are plan C guys. Barrett is considered a plan B guy. I was shocked to hear that, believe me.

Hubbs on The Wakeup Zone this morning pronounced his name as Guarantanamo :) What you got, Bob?

Don't disagree with your logic and certainly won't call into question your opinion on how you see the QBs UT is recruiting and how they rank. It's just that a lot of guys on here were thrilled that we had a borderline 5star QB commit early, had him in the fold, who fit our offense beautifully......and has the competitive juices of Connor Shaw. Then after he starts looking around and decommits, all of a sudden he's too short, throws funny and is scared of competition. Just making sure you weren't one of those guys.

Personally, after looking closer at JG, I can't disagree that he's maybe even a better fit for our program, kid is impressive. But while I'm not worried at all this early in the cycle about getting a top-notch QB for this class, I dont think it's a small deal (or even a positive like some are now implying) to lose a kid as highly rated as Kendall is....falls under the "bird in the hand" theory imo.

Haha! Heard that too. I was surprised that he couldn't pronounce his last name. He seemed to purposely be making a joke by trying to pronounce it as Guantanamo, but he mispronounced that too. Kesling would've been proud.

It was JMO. In Dobbs HS film, he didn't really blow by too many people. He had several nice runs though. JG damn near looks like a sprinter on a few of those runs.

It was just tape comparison. I mean, I could be wrong. I would guess that JG could run a 40 around the high 4.5s or low 4.6s. Dobbs is smooth and fluid. JG just striked me as a faster player. His acceleration is really good. Looks like he hits full speed around his 3rd step.

But to answer your question, it was just my opinion. I should have put "he looks faster than Dobbs" instead of making it sound like a definitive statement.

No worries Tri, didn't mean to come off as jerk with the question. Been in "hyper-defend-Dobbs" mode most of the offseason and probably saw something you didn't intend. Apologies. That being said, very impressed with JG, especially from the pocket. He'd be a more than adequate replacement for Kendall.

I think saying that JG is faster than Dobbs is pretty definitive. Not like they've foot raced, but based on watching them both, JG looks more like Mariotta running. Dobbs is more of a dasher and glider.

I think Butch feels good enough about a few "better fit" QB to avoid losing sleep over Kendall. I think we land JG within the next 30 days. He wants to commit during the spring.

Who all have we done a photoshop for and landed?

1. Preston Williams and GQ

2. Shy Tuttle with Beyoncé

3. Drew Richmond on the program cover

4. I'm sure there was one with Kahlil

5. And now JG street sign

I think JG will commit on his visit.

All speculation at this point.

Hope you're right. Would be great to get his commitment and shut down the QB search. Is JG an EE?

All speculation at this point.

Do you think Hurd is faster than Ethan Wolf? Or Todd Kelly is faster than Derek Barnett?

I think it's fair to speculate yes to both, without knowing electronic 40 times. You can watch two people and gauge which is faster, unless they're very similar in speed. I think it is clear JG is faster and gets to top speed quicker than Dobbs. I guess you call it speculation, I call it measuring with the eyes.

Hurd was laser timed running a 4.3 40...so yeah.

When he weighed 205. But as of today, I can only base what I've seen. There's no way Hurd runs 4.3 right now. But he appears, quite easily, faster than Wolf. That was my point. You don't need a laser timed 40 to answer.
