Cal, Auburn, and Vols all in NIT?

The pay to play scenario ended in 2010. This was when the tourney was establishing itself. The 2014 participants were:
2014 – Fresno State, Hampton, Illinois State, Morehead State, Old Dominion, Oregon State, Penn State, Princeton, Radford, Siena, South Dakota State, Stony Brook, Texas A&M, Tulane, UTEP, Wyoming

College Basketball Invitational

I don't think there will be a Tournament at all next season and 2016-2017 could be more of the same or possible NIT. CDT could be in trouble going into 2017-2018.

No way. What kind of moron would want to run off a coach just for barely missing the NCAA Tourney twice?

We were so excited to fire Coach Martin, blow up the program, and start from scratch. Well, this is what we get. Man, I'd love to have had Cofer, et al in here. Plus Josh, Hubbs, and Armani all familiar with Martin's system. We'd be in the NCAA for sure. Problem is no one would have been happy with that.

FWIW, and I know people on here hate big data and want to trust their guts and all that non-sense, but here's the Kenpom rankings:

UT=97th
Cal=130
Auburn=146

Tyndall still plays slower basketball than Martin.

We made the play in game last year with two NBA players and you think that We would've made it this year?

We also kicked off the starting point guard and lost a couple of games in pretty ridiculous ways. We also beat Virginia by about 60 points and beat UK worse than they've beaten in years. By the end of the year, UT was a damned fine basketball. I'm sorry that you couldn't enjoy it. LOM, forever, right?!:clapping:

We came within a bad call of making the final 8, but that doesn't fit your agenda, does it?

I love my team winning, but damn those Cuonzo teams were hard to watch. Not that its much better this year but at least there is a little optimism about our future, at least by me. Anyway I think Cuonzo leaving was for best for both UT and coach Cuonzo

By people, you mean fans on this board right?

No, if you look at where we were picked in the league and look at the comparable standings from past seasons most teams that finished in that range won between 14-16 games.

Iirc rpiforecast, KenPom and a couple other of those predictors had us at 15-16 wins also.

Right now we are playing with 9 scholarship players. We return 8 of those guys, plus McGhee.

Of those 8 guys we are returning, almost all of them are getting their first SEC level experience this season. Lots of room for improvement if you ask me.

Depth should be a lot better. Just having 13 scholarship guys instead of 10 will help.

We are playing Carmichael and Owens now and if you ask me both really needed a redshirt. Especially Owens. No way that guy is SEC ready this year but he should be next season.

We could possibly add a quality transfer as well.

Not saying this is what will happen, just playing devils advocate...

South Carolina under Martin, Auburn under Barbee, Mississippi State under Ray...they've all played plenty of freshman and returned many players and haven't had much to show for it.

How we close this recruiting class will play a big role in that

If we miss on a quality pg and do not bring in a big body 2016 will be rough. Punter and Bonds will not be the answer at point. That does not mean Bonds can't contribute, but we are not going very far with a walk on pg.

I guess we better hope that Tyndall is a better coach than those three bums.

The SEC is tougher. We don't have McKnight, Woodson, McGhee. Even Lopez could've helped some.

Most media members in town think Tyndall has worked a minor miracle with this roster. I don't know of any credible media member who doesn't think that come to think of it.

For tyndalls sake they need to be

Not really he gets more than two yrs to build a program....a lot will be determined by the guys he does bring in and what they can do....if Zo had ever decided to recruit a big man then this season wouldn't be as bad as it is

The UK beatdown wasn't last year.

Gotta land Gray and Jackson IMO, really need a HS PG too imo

He will get at least 3 and probably 4, I wasn't suggesting he would be canned after 2 seasons, but back to back NIT trips or worse and we see what that gets a coach at Tennessee, Tyndall better follow it up with at least a Sweet 16 in year 3 if he doesn't want a BBB petition started.

Basketball can be turned around very quickly, using the previous coach as a cop out for multiple seasons is lame, but with that said...where would this team be without Martin landing Moore and Richardson and leaving them for Tyndall?

Im curious to see the progression of Auburn, Marquette, Missouri and Virginia Tech from Year 1 to Year 2.
