Cal, Auburn, and Vols all in NIT?

Playing in the NIT this year would be a nice accomplishment for this team. It would be 10 straight years TN will have played in a post season tournament.

I bet that a lot of the Nega-Vols that constantly rip the NIT didn't sit through the 5-22 season in Wade's last season two decades ago. Going to the NIT beats the hell out of being one of more than 2/3rds of the teams that don't go to the NCAAT or NIT.

I was a student at UT then, and I'm also proud to say I'm a negavol. It's hard to accept the NIT after a sweet 16 appearance. I know the circumstances, but it still sucks.

To me, playing for 69th place in the nit and not playing a post season game is the same thing. If you're not in the big dance you're irrelevent in college basketball.

Please explain how playing for 69th place would be a nice accomplishment for this team... I'm sure it will sound like a Kentucky fan bragging about going to a meaningless bowl game.

For one thing, I don't hold the one and done NCAAT participants in any higher regard than the teams that were last out.

Playing for 69th is a tired cliché. Go troll somewhere else.

Teams in the ncaa tourney, win or lose, are playing for the national title. Teams in the nit play for NOTHING. if you look at them the same then that tells me your basketball IQ.

It's not trolling when it's true. It's just like second tier bowl games. Many teams mail it in because they simply don't care. Depending on your stance, either the team or the coach gets the blame.

Exactly, most vol fans forget the last time we played in the nit our own players said they were ok with mtsu beating them because they don't care about playing in the nit cause no fans show up, they don't wanna get hurt playing for nothing, and at best they're playing for 69th place. Even if ut makes the nit, the players aren't going to be excited and lay it all on the line. I'll never understand why fans would want their team playing in the nit, let alone the idiot fans that think the nit is an accomplishment.

It's trolling when the thread is about the possibility of TN, Cal, and/or Auburn meeting in the NIT. It's not a debate about the merits of the NIT.

Guess you forgot saying this huh? Contradict yourself some more. It's entertaining.

You get playing in the nit and playing for 69th place is the exact same thing right?

Anybody that says playing in the NIT/for 69th place is an accomplishment shouldn't talk about sports anymore.

Making the NIT is a goal for this TN team. Making goals are accomplishments.

I'd like to see TN and/or Auburn play Cuonzo's Cal Bears in the NIT this year. I'd prefer that TN wins out and makes the NCAAT or wins the SECT for the first time since 1979 and gets the automatic SEC bid. However, realistically TN was picked 13th in the SEC pre-season rankings this year and has lost three players since that projection. The NIT is a good place for TN to be this year.

The NIT is never a good place to be. It's the tournament of the losers of the ncaa. You play for nothing, get players hurt for no reason. Making the nit is a goal for this team? That's the stupidest comment I've ever heard. Thats like saying getting a participation ribbon is a goal.

The goal for this team right now should be to win the sec tourney and make the big dance. If they don't win the sec tourney then they're goal should be to win the sec and make the ncaa tourney next year. The nit should never even be thought about..

The only thing good about it this year is getting a little more experience for Carmichael and Owens. That's all I got......
