#20 in Schalbach or however you say it's updated early 2015 rankings.

Returning starters: 10 offense, 9 defense, 1 special teams

The skinny: Most SEC opponents might have enjoyed playing the Volunteers the past few seasons, but it might not be so much fun in the future. Tennessee coach Butch Jones landed a top-five recruiting class for the second year in a row by signing 13 players from the ESPN 300. After allowing 43 sacks in 2014, the Volunteers signed three offensive tackles who were ranked in the ESPN 300: Drew Richmond, Jack Jones and Venzell Boulware. Defensive tackles Kahlil McKenzie and Shy Tuttle, receiver Preston Williams, ends Kyle Phillips and Andrew Butcher, and cornerback Micah Abernathy also were ranked in the top 10 at their respective positions. Now, after going 12-13 in his first two seasons, Jones has to start turning the recruiting success into on-field results. With quarterback Joshua Dobbs, tailback Jalen Hurd and four starters returning on the offensive line, the pieces seem to be in place for a breakthrough season in 2015.

Only two teams we play ranked ahead of us....starting to feel good about that 9-3 prediction.

It was a fair question IMO. Some have swore a BS is a guaranteed scholarship.

Perry and Bruce take BSs. Fans say those are guaranteed.

Young takes a BS. "He'll never get a scholarship".

So I ask follow up questions.

We'll both agree on this...if there's ever a blueshirt deal that Butch reneges on, he'll lose all credibility with future recruits. A blueshirt is never going to be an abused practice...it requires too much leap of faith from a recruit and usually stems from them being devoted to a program...small sample size.

So, Hyams on 104.5 in Nashville this morning said there were four blueshirts this year--two public, two haven't been named yet. Who are these mystery guys? Given they didn't name the two public guys on NSD, I'm guessing the mystery men aren't among the named.

Transfers? You wouldn't normally call those blueshirts, would you?

It is between Lovingwood, Oliver and Stewart.

Not sure who it is...they obviously don't want it known because they don't want anyone to come poach them.

Sounds reasonable.

Yeah, I can see why. I'm kind of re-thinking my 8-4 prediction that's been posted so many times. Between the talent available and the schedule, 9-3 looks like a very distinct possibility.

So much depends on those first two tests between Oklahoma and @UF.

Two teams that on paper it looks like we should beat, but given our recent history vs them and their teams successes it is hard to view them as W's.

But if we can start 4-0 then 9-3 is very likely.

Even if we start 3-1 I think 9-3 is in the cards.

But if we start 2-2 we are looking at having to really scramble just to get to 8-4.

BEAT OKLAHOMA AND THOSE DAMN DIRTY GATORS!

Hyams said there were 4 blue shirts before any talk of Young came out. Also, he said the 2 anonymous blue shirts were announced as signees NSD because they had already been admitted to UT. IMO, the only way we ever find out the other 2 is if the players themselves admit it as Bruce and Perry did.

I think we beat OU next year. IF this young team can get over the mental hump at Florida, it could really springboard 2015 into a very nice season.

If I understand the definition of "blueshirt", they go on scholarship the first day. it just counts toward next year. So they show up (i am a little fuzzy on the specific timing) but it is in the fall and they are on scholarship at that point.
A grayshirt is different in they show up and pay their own way and have to earn their way onto the team.
This is the way I understand it, anyway.

Are we allowed to announce them if they haven't officially signed? We presented them on NSD, is that not a violation if they haven't turned in a LOI?

A grayshirt delays their enrollment until the following January...Devaun Swafford agreed to a grayshirt, but enrolled in the Summer and payed his own way...walked on in essence. The following summer he was awarded a scholarship so it was kind of a delayed grayshirt...less the tuition he paid out of pocket.

Okay here's the obvious next question. Can an EE blue shirt? No LOI signed right?

You know I think technically they can, BUT it is very unlikely because they would have to pay their own way all spring and summer...so I don't think it is feasible at all.

Also to the other question above if a player has been admitted to the university and I think signed their financial aid paper work then they can be announced by the staff even if they haven't signed their official LOI yet. That is why we were able to do it with Lovingwood and Oliver (my guesses to the BS's)

To further my question, why wouldn't we have announced Perry and Bruce, but announced Lovingood, Oliver, and Stewart? Doesn't add up. I believe Oliver, Lovingood, and Stewart are signed

Nice, didn't think about that.

The article posted around NSD said a BS does not sign a FAA.
