Accidentally posted this in the OT thread but meant to post here.

I heard this week, from Azzanni on the radio I think, that the coaches talked to 120 '16 prospects on Signing Day. Butch personally spoke to at least 100 of them.

Crazy day.

Relentless.

Our coaches never fail to impress me.

If they ink another top 5 class in 2016 (and it's likely they will), they will have taken the roster from almost the worst in the SEC and likely in the 70s nationally to national championship caliber in just a little over 3 years. That's crazy.

You can do that when the class is all locked in early on. All those schools sweating decisions on NSD. Butch is there with a coke and a smile focused on next year.

Imagine if we 9-3 or better this year. Recruiting would skyrocket. Wouldn't be surprised if we took a run a the number 1 recruiting class. If Butch shows the wins on the field, the rest of the sec better hide yo croots, hide yo commits, cause Butch signin errbody out here

Doubtful - it will be a smaller class (18-20?) with three spots already filled (blueshirts). I trust that it will be a highly ranked class, but unless it includes 4 or 5 of the top 10-12 prospects, it will have little chance to be number 1.

I don't think this is the right place for it, but whatever.

I spent the last few months working on a film about Dean Smith. I've been in the business for a few years, and every single time I've worked on a project like this, you always find someone who has something bad to say about a guy, on or off the record. They say one thing for the cameras, another for you when you're packing the gear up. It happens. You live long enough, you're going to do or say something stupid that pisses people off.

But every single person we talked to who had any relationship with Coach Smith---directly, or indirectly---genuinely seemed to love the guy. And look, I'm a cynic: to a certain degree, everyone is a phony, and the more famous you are, the more real this is. But Dean didn't just talk that life. He did a lot of things that weren't very popular when he did them, but he did them anyway and didn't give a damn---it was what he believed in. He was always his own man, and never changed who he was out of fear.

It's hard to examine someone for so long and then admire them more than you did to start with. But that's the case with Coach Smith.

Anyway, just my two cents. RIP.

Well, what is the film? When will it be released? Is it a 30 for 30 type of thing?

The cruel irony of the disease to which Coach Smith fell prey is that it attacked his memory, which was one of his most extraordinary abilities. There's been no shortage of stories the past 24-hours about his amazing ability to remember event and people. Even if they only had a brief encounter. Brad Daugherty told of one of his friends that spoke to Coach Smith at Daugherty's wedding in 1990. The two met for less than a minute. The guy called Daugherty about six years later saying that he had just been approached by Coach Smith in an airport, and that he had remembered his name, his children and wife's name, his line of work, etc.

As impressive as he was in the realm of sports, it was secondary to his impact off the court.

Young won't get a scholarship imo.

There is also a Poll to vote for Dobbs. SIAP

2015 SEC Quarterback Snapshot

2. Joshua Dobbs, Tennessee

Dobbs took over for starter Justin Worley late in 2014 and led the Vols to an improbable win at South Carolina (45-42 in overtime), a win against Vanderbilt and a win in the TaxSlayer Bowl against Iowa. The 2015 season will be one where he’s expected to be one of the best in the league from start to finish. Dobbs has the arm, IQ and mobility to have a special season and to lead the Vols to the SEC East title. Dobbs threw for 1,206 yards and nine touchdowns (six interceptions) and rushed for 469 yards and eight touchdowns.

Montario is gonna coach at Norfolk State? Nice!

Montario's senior year was probably my favorite of any Vol ever. I always thought he was a stud, especially after his break away run against Cal. Too bad he could never stay healthy, I always felt he was a better back (when healthy) than Foster. Anyway, if Montario can teach anyone else that spin move then he'll be a great coach.

Anybody remember an article that stated that every team that played in or won a NC had at least two top 5 or 10 classes?

I'm going to say it's top 10 because I don't believe Oregon has ever had a top 5 class. They have a hard enough time squeezing into the top 10.

SIAP

Detroit Lions' assistant, John Bonamego, has been hired by CMU as head coach.

I posted on this or another thread awhile back that they had interviewed him well before NSD. A CMU alum. There may have been contract/NFL reasons they could not announce it.

Z was never in it for the job. He indicated in his interview on the Sports Animal it was because he did not want to be. It also may be because they did not feel he was ready. Either way it appears Z will be around for at least a couple more and hopefully longer than that.

So, Hyams on 104.5 in Nashville this morning said there were four blueshirts this year--two public, two haven't been named yet. Who are these mystery guys? Given they didn't name the two public guys on NSD, I'm guessing the mystery men aren't among the named.

Transfers? You wouldn't normally call those blueshirts, would you?

One has been named. Young, the RB from SC. He did an interview with scout yesterday and confirmed he will BS at UT over OSU. No clue on the other
