Calm down everyone. Mike DeBord has a decent history was OC for Michigan from 97-99, and in 97 they won the national championship. He left to try his hand as a head coach, but failed as a head coach. Has a proven track record as a coordinator, and in the span of 97-99 DeBord was part of a Michigan team that had a combined 32-5 record. Also won 2 conference championships during that time span. I think I would be pleased with this hire. He's as good or better than Bajakian. Last I checked Bajakian never won a national championship as an oc

Randy Sanders won a NC as an OC too..Would you want him again?
But WHY is the question we should be asking. I have faith in CBJ but this is a head scratcher. DeBord has never run a spread type offense. And I don't wanna hear that "its Butch's offense bull crap." Someone still has to call the plays right?
Don't get the fixation by a some folks on DeBord's age.
People who are the same age as Mike DeBord: Tom Hanks, Mel Gibson, Carrie Fisher, Bob Saget, Bryan Cranston, Joe Montana, Maureen McCormick, and Randy Jackson.
...
Oh, but they're not football coaches, I understand. So how about these guys, all OLDER than DeBord: Bill Belichick, Steve Spurrier, Les Miles, Pete Carroll, Nick Saban. That's just to name a few.
They all coach ok. The ones at college level seem to recruit just fine. Did I mention they're all OLDER than DeBord?
Age is utterly unimportant in the OC hire, I'm thinking. His 2 years away from the game is more relevant than his age, and I personally think a 2 year break is nothing.
I agree with you. It seems like he could have already been here learning the offense ect or with the players watching film. It just seems like wasted time if he is going to be the OC.IMO, its still so puzzling why he would wait until NSD or after to announce. If true that DeBord was the guy 10 days ago then why not announce then? And if its true that he wanted to soften the blow by doing it on NSD or after then that is telling about the type of hire he is making, not to mention not being forthright with the recruits.

He is hiring with his ego, IMO. I believe that he and Jake came to some difference of opinions and Butch told him it his his way or the highway and he chose to put a puppet in his place so he doesn't have to allow any new ideas or any change to his offense. Just my uninformed opinion. If it's indeed Debord then the simple answers are Butch is hiring with his heart and not his brain. Also he must feel like he owes a coaching nobody something.
Your last sentence is how I feel. Some on here like to say the OC doesn't matter it's Butch's offense. That's BS. The OC matters big time with play calling as well as recruiting.
