DA doesn't have to make an offer. In a high profile, slam dunk case they may have just told them they'd see them at trial. It's rare but I hear it used to happen more often.

I never got the impression that the defense attorney here was particularly intelligent, but if he knew about the juror's rape and let her go through anyway just to get the verdict tossed after seeing the prosecution's strategy...

Now that's some strategery, as Dubya would say.

Show the video of the defendants raping her. The jurors took three hours probably because they couldn't understand why these turds would plead not guilty.

Fletcher Long and Warrick Robinson are world-class pieces of filth.

It's important to understand what constitutes a victory for the defense in any given case, because it's relative. Once the video was in play, the goal shifted significantly. Jail time was going to be given. The variable is how much time. They were going to get 20 years at least for sure the first time. It probably won't be that much now, and like my man Sigchig pointed out, empaneling an unbiased jury after the case has already happened once is going to be damn near impossible.

I know it's easy to feel that way about people who defend criminals, but you have to understand that they're simply doing their job. In fact, it would be illegal for them to perform that job to anything less than the best of their abilities.

They're essentially just there to make sure the prosecution does its job and proves they are guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

I'm well aquianted with how the criminal justice system works and count two defense attorneys as friends.

I have it on good authority, especially on Long....

No case is really a slam dunk, as much as one may seem like it.

Have you ever seen The Lincoln Lawyer? If not, highly recommend you watch it. It gave me the feels and is very relevant to this subject. And Matthew McConaughey is absolutely brilliant. What an incredible actor.

Didn't know where to post this but here goes:

We've had a swarm of individuals dedide to walk on to the team for the spring due to what I believe is the success of our program or at least the excitement surrounding it. cant help but believe we are back to our days of having an exciting program that everyone wants to be a part of

Well I certainly can't and probably wouldn't vouch for their personal character, that's for sure.

But it's common for people to associate the performance of their professional duties with their personal character. Understandable, even. And it's not as if its an easy thing to explain for that matter, like when a 5 year old asks their dad why, if God loves us, He allows terrible wars, natural disasters, and tragedy to happen. It's just the way the law works.

I didn't mean to accuse you of associating the two necessarily. I'm sure you know how it works.

One of the friends I was referring to fits exactly what you described. I have asked him on several occasions how he's able to represent some of the people he does (and he's had a few he said were legitimately scary individuals who he described as dead inside) and his answer is pretty simple; law school is expensive and the money is significantly better as a defense attorney. He does more than criminal defense but, you get the idea...

Just unreal. Signing day is going to be eye opening to everyone in the SEC.
