Agreed, I hate it (as a non smoker myself), but it is the law.

I hate this attitude though. If people blindly accepted the law and didn't challenge it and if we never adapted the law to the times, then we would never have integrated schools, women wouldn't be allowed to vote, alcohol would still be illegal, and cops would still be allowed to throw gay people behind bars for what they do in the privacy of their own bedroom.

But then again I'm guessing there are plenty of people posting on here who really like the sound of that and yearn for those days. Oh well.

Players drinking and underage, if you have seen my posts when it happens, I say throw the book at them. Ya wanna ignore the law, don't ask why it's all going bad when caught.

You're the type of person who'd throw a starving man in jail for stealing a loaf of bred, aren't you?

I guess it is easier to go through life believing that things are black and white than to actually think about things critically.

If you want to use drugs and speak out against the law, great. But when you end up with problems for doing so, don't ask why. Sure, maybe years from now all the people who" fought the cause", can celebrate. Of course the arrests, fines, and problems they had while putting up the good fight, were still problems they brought on themselves.

Of course I would. Why? There is help available if a person seeks it out. Theft is theft.

WHOOSH! The point of my post went completely over your head.

The point was that just because something is the law doesn't mean it's ok and should be blindly followed. And that bad laws should be challenged and changed.

And for the record, countries that treat drug abuse as a social issue and offer drug offenders treatment for their problem instead of cuffs have much lower levels of drug abuse.

It's a public health issue, not a criminal issue. Drug addicts need help, not to be thrown in jail.

I understand users would like to say it's not a criminal issue. Of course they are usually saying it at a bail hearing.

What if there wasn't an alternative though? Would you still send him to jail?

Better yet, if you were a cop in 1947 would you aren't a black man for using a white water fountain? There was an alternative for him and it was the law after all. And the law is the law...

They may be kids but they should be able to understand that a roll in the hay or a drink or a toke or a brawl might end up costing them the game that they love or even millions. Ask AJ.

And there's that old truism: nothing good happens after midnight.

You want to speak out to change a law? Great. Knowingly choosing to break the law and the problems that come with it is on the person who chose to ignore the law. They would never get sympathy from me.

That type of head in the sand attitude is why America is suffering so badly from drug abuse. Your logic is circular. You're saying that it should be a criminal issue because it is currently treated as a criminal issue.

There are a lot of studies that have shown that treating drug abuse as a health issue is a much more effective deterrent to drugs than than criminalization.

Take Portugal for instance: all drugs are decriminalized there and they treat abuse as a health issue. Users are given treatment for their problems instead of legal proceeding. It's cheaper for tax payers and since they've done this rates of drug use among teenagers has dropped to well below that of US high schoolers and teenagers. It's almost like telling people that they can't have something makes them want to try it more (and when that something is hard drugs, lives are at stake).

But it's easier to just imagine it's all black and white and drugs are bad and people who use them are bad too and should be thrown in jail, so who cares, right?

Maybe those folks should consider relocating to Portugal? I'd allow it.

You didn't answer the question though, what would you do?

I'm pretty sure you didn't because in both cases you'd throw those people in jail without a second thought. And that's easily 10x more despicable than you think Butch asking Ford to grey shirt is.

Break the law, suffer the consequences. I'll never have an issue with that.

I'd like to see Butch honor his promises. Of course Butch didn't break any laws in hanging Ford out to dry. Honoring commitments and breaking laws isn't really the same.

You're still avoiding the question. Would you throw those people in jail?

I would. I'm not a big fan of "rehab" because IMO it's just a tool abusers use as a get out of jail free card. LOTS of the same people in rehab today, have been through it MANY times. You want rehab? Abide by the rules while you're in jail serving your sentence and you should be able to come out clean. Back to the drugs? Obviously that is just someone who chooses problems.

No, I meant the other scenario I outlined. Why are you avoiding answering that one?
