Official OC search update thread...

Anybody that thinks a Debord hire is just to do a favor or to help out a friend is seriously sick in the noggin. Do you think CBJ would put his career and his family on the line like that?
If he thinks he can return the favor and somehow "make it work"....yes. You cannot honestly believe DeBoring is the BEST possible candidate and fit. If Butch didn't have that previous association with him (feel compelled to return the favor), there isn't a snowball's chance in hell DeBoring is on Butch's list. Doesn't even run the same type of offense.

Brady Hoke would have hired him before getting fired, if DeBord was such a solid candidate.

But let's be honest, Hoke isn't known for making the best decision...So one could argue, maybe he should've. Further the state of the MI program at that point is far different than the current state of the UT program.

Maybe Debord did not want to work for Hoke.

If DeBord were just a guy who didn't know Butch, there is no chance he'd be getting a serious look. But then comfort is a big factor with coaching hires--you see it all the time and college and the NFL. The Broncos just hired over-the-hill wade phillips as DC because he and new head coach Kubiak have worked together before.

Def sounds like he's already trying to explain a DeBord hire.
Yep. And what really pisses me off about that is, Butch is basically lying to us. Telling us that it's ongoing and shouldn't last too long into Feb. That's pure BS and he knows it.

He's not interviewing anyone. He's already made his choice from the get-go. This is just like the "We're going to hire THE BEST STAFF IN AMERICA" BS line he gave us. Which implied that he was going to search for the best candidates possible to fill out his staff. Then he turns around and hires mostly his old staff from Cincinnati.

I liked Butch far more than I ever did Kiffin or Dooley, but I'm starting to have my doubts about him all of a sudden. He fibbed to us from the very outset, when he was first hired, then he resorts to cronyism for this hire, and decides to mislead the entire fanbase in the process.

Find me one Michigan fan that thinks DeBord was or would now be a good offensive coordinator. Good luck its not going to be easy. Michigan fans do not like DeBord at all. There has to be a reason and its not because he's a great coach.

from other big-name programs is that they are already making good money and so you would have to offer the a substantial bump in pay. They are not going to make a lateral move for the same money or a slight increase unless the circumstances are favorable for you--a guy is unhappy at his current school or is eager to coach in the sec or has some sort of personal ties to your school. That is why trying to hire somebody from boise state, marshall, even tcu seems more feasible, all things considered. Maybe we'll be surprised.

Dude, you know nothing. No one does. Stop with the conspiracy theories. The only reason to doubt Butch is coming from your own delirious mind. We've done nothing but show improvement since he's been here. Who cares if he's not keeping you in the loop.

Phillips put up top 10 defenses in 2011-2013 as well.

There is tangible evidence he can still do the job.

Agree with the comfort factor though.

Odd since the two I know thought he was a good OC. Maybe you have a more extensive bunch of Michigan fans to consult.

He did get them a National Title. I know the great defense line but the RBs averaged 4.5 ypc and Griese had a 140 QBR, so the offense wasn't terrible. The year he came up short versus Ohio State for another chance to play for a National Title, the offense was pretty highly rated statistically.

Lying is a pretty strong term.

I'd equate it more to being a used car salesman. Sure he is lying, but it's part of the job so you should expect it.

It'll start wearing real thin though if he keeps selling lemons in the form of .500 seasons.

So, did he steal someone's girlfriend?

Michigan didn't offer him the job after Carr retired despite being endorsed as a replacement by Carr.

Neither of the subsequent hires for Michigan gave him a look.

Fulmer went the route of Clawson over DeBord and Loeffler in 2008.

Harbaugh couldn't find a spot for him on his staff.

There is some evidence that he may not be the elite of the elite as we are being sold.

Instead they hired Rich Rodriguez who went 15–22 the worst record of any head coach in Michigan history.

They chose the sizzle instead of the steak and got burned.

This is my first post so take it easy on me. Ive been a long time reader (starting during the Gruden hire era) and have finally decided to join the conversation. I want to start by saying I am not claiming to be any type of insider. "My Stats" are: I work in marketing in Florence AL, and work often with the Anderson family. Me and Terry talk football often. Any time you run in to a VFL in Bammer it's a great day. I have no idea what type of influence he may or may not have but the info that I wanted to pass along is that he's does not believe per our last conversation that Debord is the hire and certainly does not support it. His opinion may not mean crap but it is good to know that at least one booster is on our side. Well at least for those of us who believe we could make a better hire.

Welcome to the jungle. :hi:

RR installed a completely different offensive scheme than the one Michigan had the personnel for. He recruited pretty damn well (Hoke's early, and only success, was with RR's players). If anything, his downfall was his unwillingness to change his preferred defensive scheme to fit the Big10.

His record at Arizona and West Virginia shows that he will be successful with the right personnel and an AD that isn't trying to run him out of town.

I don't doubt you for a second, 72, but I doubt your job calls for you to attract teenagers to move away from home for three to four years and basically buy into you.

You know I thought that too . but then I got to thinking if I had a kid leaving to go play football at a big time university. I would want his coaches to be experienced he would know how to help your son adjust to that life.with age comes wisdom .

Thanks for the input, and always good to see another Vol from my area.
