Official OC search update thread...

Smith is the best fit to me if he's willing and interviews decent. Same system, put up a ton of points, ran a ton of plays most plays ran in the NCAA (uptempo), beat Oregon the first time around, has experience coaching QBs.

I hope that you aren't lumping me in with the blue hairs , Doyle. Even though I am 65, I don't color my hair, of which I still have plenty, and it's not even half gray.
Honestly, I don't care who gets the job. I just hate to see a man get bashed because he is older. One's usefulness, and one's youthfulness doesn't necessarily end at 50. There are plenty of miles left in me.

I don't doubt you for a second, 72, but I doubt your job calls for you to attract teenagers to move away from home for three to four years and basically buy into you.

Actually it does. I recruit teenage girls from Uzbekistan as brides for rich, old, fat, bald men in the U.S. I can be VERY friendly.

Can you recruit highly rated teenage football players and win a NC on NCAA 13? If so, you have my full support.

His system was just flawless at Auburn.

He never had a chance at Auburn. He had as much chance as Clawson did at UT. Didn't have the players to run his offense. Not to mention in Clawsons offense you have to have an intelligent QB and we all know Crompton was never going to be mistaken for a scholar.

If it's not DeBord, Smith looks like the best fit to me all things considered.

to me that means Butch will wrap up the talks by Wednesday. but I'm just looking at what's written there.

Walt Bell . Arkansas State OC. Young, great recruiter and has done nothing but move up the ranks as a coach.

I still have some hair and in return for giving up the bride part they get fit instead of fat.

Can we deal?

SIAP. The latest on the search.

"Nothing much has changed there in terms of Mike DeBord remaining the frontrunner and in some ways, strengthening his spot there as Jones, Bob Welton and others at UT field a larger volume of calls endorsing DeBord.

However, we're told that as we previously noted, the Vols' contingent was rather impressed with Boise State offensive coordinator Mike Sanford and made extensive calls around the country regarding Sanford.

Matt Canada also received one of the Vols' more formal interviews, but no one has suggested Canada impressed quite the same as both DeBord and Sanford.

UT folks indicated Tuesday and again Wednesday, as we noted, that there's no rush on the timeline to formally make/announce the hire. At this point, we're told Friday would be the earliest and next week around national signing day remains a very real possibility."

Would like to see Helton or Smith. Would be tough to convince Helton of a paycut because of lower cost of living in the Knoxville area, but it's not completely unheard of. I think it's Debord, but then again I'm a negavol, so tifwiw.

*Disclaimer

Not saying Debord would be terrible (because I don't know), but it makes me nervous with him being out of the game for a few years- especially when it comes to recruiting.

I wouldn't be against Sanford. I would rather have him than Debord. He is working his way up. He has worked with quarterbacks. I think it would be a solid hire. I'm not liking all if the quotes mentioning Debord as the front runner. It seems like Butch is set on him. I hope he takes the job with Atlanta.

Atlanta filled their spot Assistant Head Coach position with Raheem Morris. Not sure if there's another position that Debord's being considered for. I am down for Sanford.
