Bajakian sure blows that assumption out of the water.

The problem with that statement is that Kamara, Smith, and a healthy North changes things. When CMB had one of those games where we were throwing alot of those flares and short passes, I stated that Kamara could be a gamechanger because he could take that to the house, something that we didn't have. People didn't want to hear it and still complained.

I am not going to sit here and say that CMB called good games all of the time, but a better OL and adding Kamara and Josh Smith will help whoever is the OC.

I had a very interesting conversation today with my brother in law who is a Michigan fan and alum. He lives in Arizona now and we only talk a handful of times a year but had to call him today in regards to a family matter. We started talking our usual small talk about football. I asked him what he knew about Mike DeBord, I told him Tennessee was looking at him in regards to OC. I made the statement that I didn’t see how the style of play was a good fit for CBJ. He went on to say it would actually be a good fit, I asked how do you figure? He went on to tell me Lloyd Carr dictated what type of offensive scheme to run, and DeBord was simply following along.

Here is where our conversation got interesting, he said in the month leading up to the Capital One Bowl against Florida, DeBord approached Lloyd Carr explaining their current offense wasn’t a good matchup against Florida and recommended they open it up as he knew how to attack Florida in space. Reluctantly Carr agreed, they spent a month of practice working on the spread getting ready for the game. My brother in law keeps up with and watches Tennessee football also because my sister is a Tennessee alum. He said, when you have time go watch the Capital One Bowl, it’s the same offense Butch runs.

That day Michigan won, and put 41 points up against Florida and had their D tripping over themselves. Now I’m not saying this is proof he is the “man” but after watching this I can certainly see why Butch is talking to him. After that game Lloyd Carr retired, Rich Rod was hired and DeBord took a position as O Line coach with Seattle.

I'm watching that 2008 full game now. That's when they played Tebow.

Seriously? You realize that Bajakian did not have Dobbs until the end of the season, after which the offense was very potent?

You realize Hurd and Malone were true freshmen?

You realize that Kamara was in CC?

You realize that North and Pearson were often injured, and that Smith was out most of the year?

You realize that our offensive line was younger, thinner, and about as injured and out of place as it gets?

You realize that they tried to run the same offense that only works with a QB like Dobbs WITH A STATUE like Worley BECAUSE training our young players to run the offense that we will use for the next decade it a much better move than switching up the entire system for Worley, then learning the real offense again when it comes time for Dobbs to take over?

No. I don't think you do.

So you don't believe there have been coaches the game passed by? Coaches that were unable to adjust as the game has evolved?

Sure there are. Its an easy characterization and a broad brush. There's lots of youth on the Vols staff. Besides that the ups and downs of a career are a given. I am not sure the suggestion is particularly relevant to a guy that is 58 and doesn't have health issues.

Wow that's pretty awesome. I'm slowly starting to slowly accept the idea of him being hired. Impressive video.

VQ Search Update!

We've learned that Tennessee's group conducting interviews, led of course by coach Butch Jones, met in the past 24 hours with candidates in Las Vegas at or near the airport.

Those meetings have concluded, and Tennessee's group has moved to the East Coast to visit with commitment Darrell Taylor and also, we are told by two sources, meet with one more candidate.

As noted, the Vols were very intrigued by Mike Norvell at Arizona State, but the candid indication that any negotiations would have to begin at $1 million was a deterrent.

Additionally, Mike Sanford and Noel Mazzone have been the other coaches confirmed of interest by the Vols, as well as North Carolina's Gunter Brewer and N.C. State's Matt Canada. We also are told Jones' agent, Trace Armstrong, facilitated discussions with some NFL assistants who demanded anonymity because of their current contracts.

Nothing has changed to suggest any candidate has emerged to overtake clubhouse leader Mike DeBord, who also is apparently mulling an offer that could include an assistant head coach title with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons.

Canada has made Jacoby Brissett one of the nation's top 20 QBs, so I'd be very happy with him.

DeBord isn't the worst thing, but when I see the other candidates listed and know UT could do better than him, it wouldn't ease the sting of his hire.

Good stuff. A few comments:
1. That catch by Arrington on the second play was unreal. You can hear Blackledge even say that Michigan did not play empty backfield the whole year, yet they were doing it time and time again in that game.
2. That TE screen that went 50+ yards was genuis. Had quad WR right and ran a TE screen left.
3. If you notice, they went under center on goal line situations.
4. Arrington made another great catch in the 4th at the 5:00 mark.

Nobody can overtake debord bc butch and him have already agreed. Not because he is the best offensive coordinator available. Good ol boy system!

Assuming the rumors are true, Debord is getting a look in an Asst HC with a d*mn NFL team. If that is true - if the Falcons are even giving him a moments consideration - then he is as good of a candidate as any that we are considering.

But no. You sat on your armchair, looked at his credentials, and decided that only nepotism could get him the job. Perhaps the good ole boy system isn't causing Butch to consider him. Perhaps the good ole boy system is causing HIM to consider Butch.

The Falcons have an Asst HC and its Raheem Morris. There isn't going to be a second one. It seems the VQ staff is being fed BS

QB Breakdown: Best of the 2015 class

Best trio – Tennessee

The Vols get a slight nod over the Seminoles in this category but it is close. Florida State probably has the best quarterback of the six in Deondre Francois but Tennessee’s trio of incoming freshmen complement each other perfectly. Quentin Dormady is the sure thing passer, Jauan Jennings is the athlete with upside and Sheriron Jones meets the two in the middle.

This sometimes gets taken too far. Do you randomly choose your doctor? Dentist? Financial advisor? Lawyer?

Of course, you want someone who is competent and good at what they do, but not everyone is a good fit. Life is about relationships, and at this point, Butch Jones has done enough for this program to trust his decision.

After seeing the post you are replying to it makes me feel better. Bottom line is Butch isn't an idiot. He knows more than all of us and will hire the best candidate for Tennessee right now.

Oh yeh, forgot it was such a plus to get a 60 yr old man with very little spread experience, no qb experience, been out of coaching and hasn't had good success as an Oc in any of our recruits lifetime. Even then his offenses were 'ok'. They won on mainly defense. You're right, home run hire.

Wow this is an outstanding post. I had no idea. You think Michigan and power I but that sure as heck is a spread offense dominating a urban Meyer Flordia team that always had stout defense

Love how ppl get destroyed just bc their opinion is different. Not many ppl ( even UM ppl) think this is a good hire. You have a lot of attacking to do.
