That's not Preston Williams from Lovejoy HS, that's a random UT student named Preston Williams, who by every account seems to be a VFL.

I still get the feeling that Debord was brought in as a consultant, and not the actual candidate.

Meeting with the coaches and players could have been a fact-finding trip so he can tell Butch that he needs to hire someone established or if he can take a risk by going with an up-and-coming hotshot.

However, I wonder if the Michigan AD would sign off on one of their staff going to another university in a consultant capacity.

My fault. I get your point.

No worries.

Unless you wanna come at me bro...

If that's true this site I got it from got the news from another site in an article and then pasted this tweet. News sites are no longer double checking sources or information.

Another OC search tidbit:

Debord is still the top guy. Butch is expected to be at Darrell Taylor's late this afternoon so it sounds like he did a few interviews last night and very early this morning.

-Fortenberry

I'm pretty sure Butch isn't checking back in with VQ after every interview and confirming that DeBord is still his #1 choice.

So....the fact that Fort automatically prefaces his statement with DeBord still being #1 means this hire is a done deal and was probably agreed on in principle when Mr. Stats himself reported it.

..or it's a smokescreen. Just as plausible.

@TonyBasilio: "@Roky_Top: heard Debord has been trying to contact recruits but none have received his telegrams" TOD candidate

Debord flushed more football knowledge than Tony will ever accumulate.

I like Basillo, actually enjoy listening to the guy, he is the UT version of Finebaum that panders to his target audience. Basically enjoy his show but do not put a lot of stock into his predictions.

I wonder if Lovie Smith's plane will ever get cleared to land?

Perhaps but Fort and LWS both are saying Debord and that it would be hard for another candidate to surpass him. That's pretty solid information.

So why interview anyone else? If he's your guy, that's it hire him hold the press conference and move on. The longer this goes the less receptive and more skeptical the base is.

The text was a joke it wasn't insider information. He used a telegram to contact recruits instead of modern technology? Read it again.

Anyone that would have thought about it for a second would realize it is a joke. DeBord would use pony express ( poor guy confuses them with Federal Express ).

Glad this isn't one of our coaches...

Michigan statement turned off Neal

Look you're stupid and poor and without football, you couldn't get in to a place like Michigan. :thud:

In hindsight, this going public is probably the best thing that could happen because now that recruiter can be dealt with. Honestly, this story makes you wonder if pitches like these aren't why Michigan has sunk to ~100th despite the Harbuagh hire.

This is JMO, but I would think that someone of Debord's experience level (having witnessed the dawn of college football) should be able to understand just about any kind of offensive scheme thrown at him. :hi:

The history of college football is littered with once great coaches that got passed by the game. I'm not saying DeBord is one of those guys, but you also can't say he's not. It's a situation where you grin and bear it, whether you like it or not, and see how it plays out.

Because basically Butch is hitching his career to the guy. Interview other candidate and at least mull over the decision before making the most important hire of your career.

The fanbase's reaction is irrelevant at least until we see the results on the field. Negative fans won't give a damn if we're winning ballgames and positive fans will change their opinion if we do not perform on the field. Butch's career, his decision and we should trust him to make it if we trust him as our HC. Our fans thought Chuck Smith was some great position coach that might require a raise to keep before Dooley gave him his pink slip.
