I Twitter searched "fire Matt Canada" and only two tweets came up (both from 2012), so I'm in favor.

Also, State fans apparently love him.

Mike Norvell
Deputy head coach, offensive coordinator, QB coach, Arizona State
If big offensive statistics are your thing, Norvell is your kind of guy. A right-hand man of Sun Devils head coach Todd Grantham, the 33-year-old Norvell has been an NCAA Division I FBS assistant or coordinator since the 2007 season, giving him a rare combination of youth and experience. He began coaching as a graduate assistant at his alma mater (Central Arkansas) in 2006, and just one year later he was the wide receivers coach at Tulsa, a job he kept from 2007-10 for one of the nation’s most potent offenses. Norvell moved to Pittsburgh as the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for the 2011 season, and he followed Grantham to Arizona State in 2012. He’s spent the past three seasons as the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and deputy head coach in Tempe, and the Sun Devils have put up silly-good numbers with him running the offense. Perhaps the only potential hurdle to hiring Norvell is that he reportedly has a salary in the range of $900,000. That won’t cause Tennessee to ignore him, but paying that much for an offensive coordinator would force Jones to be careful with how he allocated the rest of the budget for assistant’s salaries, and it could potentially cause chemistry issues within the staff — a group that’s worked hard, gotten results and arguably earned raises across the board. As a pure football move, though, hiring Norvell would be seen as a home run. The numbers speak for themselves, though obviously many in The South would note that he hasn’t put up any numbers in the SEC. But history has showed time and time again that a lack of SEC experience doesn’t prevent SEC success.

Kurt Roper
Most recently — offensive coordinator, QB coach, Florida
Roper, who broke into the coaching business as a graduate assistant at Tennessee, became arguably the chief protege of longtime former Vols assistant and current Duke head coach David Cutcliffe, and his one-and-done rough season at Florida hasn’t been held too much against him by others in the business. That was a tough situation, and everyone seems to understand that. Georgia strongly considered hiring him for its offensive coordinator position, and no less than three sources have told GoVols247 that Roper and Tennessee have been in contact.

-Rucker

These are the 2 he added. I cut out a lot of Roper's since he is a little more known.

Everyone says that same line in a coaching search. It must be in the guide to public relations during a coaching search. I always take that with a grain of salt. Heck the phones probably are blowing up with the talent we have coming back but it could also be people leveraging raises or being a reference for other candidates.

A lot of leveraging for raises going on as well. It is a business and how folks make a living.

I know one of the biggest UT boosters. Has given millions. I promise they don't call him to ask permission to hire assistant coaches.

If Roper is half the QB coach his mentor is, he gets my vote. Not sure he is though. Florida's offense was ugly last year, but it could be that Driskell is just turrible.

OMG, I have read more conspiracy theories on here since the bowl game than was ever reported in the Warren Commission report.

Let's be honest, even with our O-Line woes, we have a better situation for a O-Cord to walk into than Chump had.

I agree that Roper shouldn't be too harshly judged for this year.

Would we want Roper here? He didn't exactly have Floridas offense moving on all cylinders..

Not my top choice.

My top probable candidates would be:

Matt Canada, Bill Legg and G.A. Mangus

There are a few others (Cumbie, Norvell, ect) that I like too but just don't see them being likely.

So what's going on? Yesterday it looked like DeBord was a done deal, but now all these new names are popping up.

If Butch was going to make a hire he knew everyone would hate, he would just do it, right? Rip that band-aid off instead of getting people's hopes up that he's going in a different direction.

I think the consensus is that Debord isn't being hired as an OC, but rather in a different (quality control?) role. This is speculation based on the interview process he went through (meeting with Dobbs/North, staying the whole weekend), the fact that new names keep popping up, and the fact that he hasn't been announced yet.

Maybe it really was a smokescreen?

Can we hire another coach even as a QC guy without letting someone else go?

I think 99.97% of the things discussed on this board the last 3 days are untrue.

Agreed

So there are separate limits on coaches and QC type people. Someone else should confirm this for me, but I think we just had one of those types leave (maybe to UTC?). I can't remember, but I believe there is a spot open.
