If he ends up there, he'll need to go the JUCO route...they'll probably be solid in two years.

I don't know... the magic of that team has been the defense, especially the DL.

With their poor recruiting, the fall may be on the horizon.

It's true. It's the world of extremes that are so confusing and somewhat frustrating about Butch though. Is Debord really going to do what his former protege says with no question? More importantly if we lose Azzani that's a serious loss just to get a lackey. Also wth does Debord know about mobile QB's? This will be negative recruiting bonanza. Next years results will play a big impact on how this tightens up or unravels.

Results from 2015 will have a major impact regardless of who the OC ends up being. CBJ's future is on the line as well so he has to make the call he thinks is the best while also balancing several different side bars. Money and the AD with Cheek as well as his own staff.

It's true he had a decent record. Built largely on fantastic defense. They had a lot of squeekers with less talented squads. His offense was not dynamic but they played solid in other phases. In that regard the way our defensive front is shaping up you could get a HS water boy and have some success. The only way this makes sense is Butch is hell bent on the playbook being identical and Debord has agreed to run some script without putting his own influence on it because he is a run 1st guy but not QB runs.

It seems we will have a fantastic D and look how many recruits we had last cycle that were on D. If we have a fantastic D and go 52-11 over the next few years, I could live with that. CBJ has a good coaching record. O looks good but D wins championships in my book.

Development and results on the field, have made those assistants hot commodities...maybe Pinkel has that knack of finding the next bright star...it is amazing what they've accomplished with low rated recruiting.

Pinkel is a top 20 coach, IMO. Gets more diamonds out of coal, than most

I really don't disagree but don't tell us you are flattered by interest and them immediately hire a guy because he gave you a shot and interview everyone else at their local Denny's.

IMO hiring Debord is the closest thing to hiring Butch's version of Monte. Except Monte is 10x the coach.

Actually beginning to like a Debord QC / mentoring role that doesn't count against the # of assistant coaches. What do the number say, Leb? oh yea, I just done did it..

Honestly i don't know about CZA leaving but as far as recruiting goes i highly doubt it would chg much. What ppl don't know is P. Will is here not for Z but Swain. Swain found him before he blew up and he has loved UT every since. On the OC and Debord stuff. Anthony Parker is out as 1 of the quality control guys and I've heard that's what his role will be. He will assist with OL. Players and others have complained about Mahoney and he's really not got it done recruiting wise either. I'm suppose to hear from about 2 or 3 ppl tomorrow and I'll update once i get my calls.

This is de1conley from another thread. This would be great, assuming I'm reading it correctly and Butch is still able to hire one of the OC candidates he is in the process of interviewing according to, Brice was it? It seems to make sense, considering DeBord allegedly stayed the entire weekend, watched film with Dobbs/North, met with the staff, etc; yet Butch is still going to make interviews. :crossfingers:

I understand that can be frustrating however, when he is speaking to the media, he is speaking to recruits like a shotgun blast. Coach speak to market and sell must be done. If he wins and does what he has been doing, fans will come even thought they may complain. Heck, some fans complained even in the Late 90's when UT would lose a game or two. He is selling and spinning the brand at all times. Most of the time, it will include a lot of BS like best staff in America. Would you rather him say we will have a mid level staff to the media so everyone will be all Lebbie. We could then say he is honest and have a bad team. This is not an attack on you or your posts. But, I understand the BS he spews is all I am saying.

I was dead serious when I brought up ButchBot 3000 a few months ago.

His work with the press is exactly how Jacket described it. Anyone that gets huffy and takes offense, or laps it up like a dog is nuts. It's spin, branding, whatever you want to call it and I'm fine with that. It's not for me 99% of the time.

The clichés and constant coach speak may be annoying, but they appear to work, so cheese it up for all I care.

Agreed.

If Pressers or media interviews were a direct indication of a coach's ability on the field, then Saban and Belichick wouldn't be employed.

I've said all along that if Butch gives up football, he's got a bright future in politics. I've never seen a coach spew more ish and it get lapped up by so many. I'm like you, it doesn't bother me. As long as it's working, spew away.

Maybe when Butch Jones said he was "humbled" by the calls he got about the OC position, he was being sincere.

I say that because 99% of the time people in athletics misuse the word humble. They usually mean to say flattered. Humbled implies the direct opposite of what most people are trying to say.

Well, maybe he really meant humbled. Humbled meaning that literally no one worth a damn called so he settled for DeBord, because that would be truely humbling.

Everyone says that same line in a coaching search. It must be in the guide to public relations during a coaching search. I always take that with a grain of salt. Heck the phones probably are blowing up with the talent we have coming back but it could also be people leveraging raises or being a reference for other candidates.
