From my perspective, the big picture regarding this coaching search is becoming clearer and clearer. Anxious to see how this contributes to the success of the offense this coming year. I have faith in Butch because he has gotten this great program this far. No looking back now. :dance2:

That also doesn't make a lot of sense though- you let the guy come in all weekend and meet with players, watch film, and then say oh sorry Butch you can't hire him!?!

Unless he was asking some kind of crazy salary (just can't see that being the case) I'm not buying it. Butch goes to Hart and says this is my guy, it takes 550grand to hire him to replace CMB, IMO Hart doesn't bat an eye.

Perhaps blocked him from hiring without looking at anyone else??? Edit: You know, this could be a big hire. Lots of jobs on the line if it is a major FAIL.

Basilio wrote that it is a possible scenario, and that he talked to a booster who said that he and other boosters were not supportive of the Debord hire. He was just speculating as far as Hart blocking the hire.

Boosters blocking an OC hire? If true, people see why TN struggles to get out of its own way.

Oh lord here we go again with Boosters have a say in coaching searches.... That sounds all too familiar. Honestly I think Hart should support what Butch wants within reason of course- but he has at least earned that.

I don't mind folks who contribute big money giving input on head coaching hires. Offensive Coordinators? Let the man hire who he sees fit. In the end, its his job on the line.

How much do QC guys at TN typically earn? Is UT free to pay their QC big bucks if they want to have Debord in that role?

Typically I wouldn't think very much. Of course Lupoi was a QC guy at Bama last year and he is one of the better recruiters and position coaches in the country, so I figure that the pay is somewhat negotiable.

Does anyone else get nervous when "boosters" are brought into coaching search conversations? I hope ADDH or CBJ don't let input from fans/boosters (who rarely know the day to day operations of the program) dictate who they think will be best for the programs future. Boosters/fans don't lose jobs if the hires aren't good, but AD's and coaches do. :banghead2:

The "Hart blocked the hire" is just guesswork to explain why Debord was here already meeting with players but not hired. I think EricVol is right on the money on this. Debord was brought in to help Butch develop his list of candidates after doing a review of the status of the program, and also to possibly take a QC or position coach slot. Now Butch is out doing the actual interviews. Makes too much sense for VN to accept!

Lol. Basilo is full of crap 90% of the time and I actually enjoy the guy. But he is basically the tabloid equivalent of UT football.

It is silly to think that Butch would not be questioned by Hart and major boosters about who would be his replacement OC after all this program has been through over the past decade. C'mon people. Butch doesn't write the checks, he receives one. Hart does the hiring based on agreement with recommendations. If I and many on here can see the glaring issues with DeBord's work history I can assure you Hart and the other big guns do as well.

So apparently, Basillio said that Hart blocked the Debord hire????

Haha Basilio back tracking again. Never listen to that guy about coaching searches. He doesn't know anything

Hart trust Butch to make his hires. He wouldn't block that move. The only move that you would consider a block is if Butch is asking for too much money for someone like a Norvell. He wouldn't block a Debord move.
