If CBJ actually does due diligence and still picks Debord, I will be a little less worried.
My main concern was that Debord would be hired without any other real interviews simply because he was available.

I think DeBord is a candidate. I also think he can evaluate the program and where it is if that's what Jones wants. But I think he's absolutely a candidate.

Butch is already set. Pretty clear these other interviews are just to cover protocal. I mean debord stays in Knox for the weekend and has film sessions with players but the other guys meet jones at the airport chilis bar n grille for their so called interviews. What a joke.

Thought this may be of interest considering some of the other potential candidates that Brice mentioned.

L.A. Times - March, 2014: “Noel Mazzone, who made $375,000 last season, will make $654,500 each of the next two seasons. He was given a $100,000 signing bonus and can receive retention bonuses of $65,250 each if still at the school on Jan. 1, 2015, and June 30, 2015. Mazzone will receive two more retention bonuses of $165,500 each to be paid Jan. 1, 2016, and June 30, 2016.”

Regarding Mike Norvell, it looks like his salary has quickly risen from $325,000 in 2012 to $900,000 today (following previous bumps to $500k and $700k in response to interest from various schools). Seems like Norvell's agent has been able to use the on-field performance and calls from other programs quite well.

Both CA (Mazzone) and AZ (Norvell) have state taxes. Both coaches appear to be in the highest tax bracket in their respective states, which could be a negotiating point for UT should either coach be seriously considered.

I have to say it's been much more enjoyable on this board these past few days being on heavy pain killers from my recent surgery. Much more enjoyable.

If either of them are actually interested then they both move near the top of my list.

I am with jmoore in that it sounds like Butch already picked and the only plus would be if he's QC or CO-OC

The joke is you acting like you're Butch's right hand man and knows what his daily activities have been.

What does that mean?

If Debord was thought of as an AD candidate at Michigan and a good friend of CBJ, then I guess he could have had him come in for the weekend to discuss what he thinks of potential OC candidates. I guess like an adviser. Just another possibility I guess.

Err. You just illustrated his point. 'Went right over your head.

If he had a recent history of being a successful OC, then his point would be good. But George Bush was in office the last time he was an OC, and Debord wasn't exactly successful then.

The more I read and think about it, this just isn't typical job interview activities- meeting with the team and doing film sessions...that sounds more like Debord coming in as a mentor and friend giving his advice... Who knows and I am likely to be wrong here but I just wouldn't think you would be doing that especially before an official announcement and all the while the media acting like he is interviewing other candidates. If this is who a Butch wants I would think it would be announced and case closed. We shall see...

Urban Meyer contacted Butch to recommend Debord. Now all we need is Saban to do the same...
