In defense of Mike Debord:

Is there a bible of football philosophy that says one must EITHER run a read/option spread -OR- run a pocket passer, pro-style attack? Is there a such thing as multiple formations or are you only permitted to utilize one scheme or the other?

If you look at Debord's resume and honestly think he couldn't have found a job then you are not very savvy. He could've went into administration for a ton of reasons like family, relationships, being close to home, needing time off. Anything. Stop acting like you know he could not find a job.

Very true, he could have "gone" into administration on his own. Doesnt every coach aspire to be an Olympic consultant?

A: No you dont but you do act childish when people have an opinion different from yours

B: And what is mt opinion?

A: I have no problem with different opinions if they have some basis in fact. The sky is falling stuff is stupid, as is the false information put out about Debord.

B: I have no idea what you are referring to.

Good point. What if Butch want to stay with the offense he has now, but wants a guy like DeBord to implement some traditional plays as well....such as in the running game?

He was one of 2 men from Michigan to meet and pick up Harbaugh when they interviewed him. I think he was a mini-AD for Michigan, but keep posting nonsense. So you think he could not have found a job?

What in the wide, wide world of sports are you talking about???

Debord was off coord 2 times 1997-1999, and 2006-2007.
Record by year when Debord was o,c.
1997 12-0
1998 10-3
1999 10-2

2006 11-2
2007 9-4

Each of those years, Michigan finished 1st or 2nd or tied for 1st or 2nd in the Big 10.

You people need to look stuff up before you post. Those 5 years were the "worst stretch of UM football ever?"

See...this was intelligent and helpful. I'll just wait and see what happens.

If he brings some new ideas about the zone read to the table then why not? With as much football knowledge as the guy has who is to say that he doesn't understand the spread?

So we'll have two oline coaches and possibly lose our wr coach and only have one open spot for a qb and wr coach.

Being able to find a job and running tennessee's offense are very different.
I will back Butch either way, but this hire feels like we fumbled at the half yard line again.
I honestly pray I'm wrong!
There are so many excellent potential candidates out there... Butch is either an absolute genius or letting his heart skew his vision. We may have to wait and see.

Wow, OK let me try this.... Would you go to an orthopedic surgeon for an organ transplant?

Totally different analogy....try again, Coach. Validate your first analogy then we can move on to your next joke.

If Jones picks DeBord, it's quite clear that it is a comfort hire, first and foremost. Has any other candidate actually been interviewed in person? It certainly doesn't seem like Jones has been shaking trees. This is like hiring your uncle.

Just curious... if you were to put Jancek's background side-by-side with DeBord, how do they compare? By that I mean NFL and major conference history for example... not "Jancek is the DC therefore "your" an idiot".

If Debord is the guy Butch hires then he will have my support . I believe Butch has a vision and a determination to win and his decision will be based on that and not what is popular such as hiring a resume or who is popular on message boards . This same type of negativity was attributed to the Butch Jones hire and look where we are now.

How does this defend DeBord?
