In defense of Mike Debord:

Mike Debords name shouldn't even be written in the bottom of the urinal that those three guys piss in, let alone, be mentioned in the same sentence

I didn't say it should...I said the same question you proposed could be asked about them.

No offense and just for conversational purposes only, how is he a proven winner? His record at CMU was horrible and he was at the forefront of arguably the worst stretch of UM football ever.
What in the wide, wide world of sports are you talking about???

Debord was off coord 2 times 1997-1999, and 2006-2007.
Record by year when Debord was o,c.
1997 12-0
1998 10-3
1999 10-2

2006 11-2
2007 9-4

Each of those years, Michigan finished 1st or 2nd or tied for 1st or 2nd in the Big 10.

You people need to look stuff up before you post. Those 5 years were the "worst stretch of UM football ever?"

I reckon DeBord has been asked about the hiatus and will be ready for that question at the presser. Assuming he has a presser.

We run a spread/read-option offense. Dobbs is most definitely a spread/read-option QB. DeBord has never coached spread. This smacks of Jones hiring a old pal who needs a job, not conducting a serious, nationwide search for a talented OC. I can barely believe this would be the guy.

He hasn't coached or recruited in college in the better part of a decade.

When he did, he ran a vanilla, traditional offense.

Sounds like a perfect fit

Here's one. Skill positions are recruited up. What does TN still need on the offensive side? If he can help bring in future NFL linemen, maybe it's a good hire.

Urban lost Tebow

He needed time to mourn

And per his interview (HBO I think )he was having massive anxiety related issues leading him toward chemical dependency. Different thing to pull yourself out for health reasons- debord was effectively put in the cost closet.

At least I don't think that I know more about hiring a football coach than the head coach of a major program does. You all over value your own opinion on hiring coaches.

A: No you dont but you do act childish when people have an opinion different from yours

B: And what is mt opinion?

I think Butch genuinely cares about Tennessee and wouldn't do anything that would risk his career.

EXACTLY...and id bet my wife and kids that he knows endlessly more about every aspect of football (including coaching) than anyone on this board.

If you look at Debord's resume and honestly think he couldn't have found a job then you are not very savvy. He could've went into administration for a ton of reasons like family, relationships, being close to home, needing time off. Anything. Stop acting like you know he could not find a job.
