Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

Good God please let this be a joke. If this turns out to be true then it just screams "panic Hire". I mean theres how many ACTIVE OCs that we KNOW can do the job in todays climate of college football? I DO NOT want a coach that hasn't had to do the job since social media and the internet have become HUGE parts of recruiting.

If Butch is seriously considering this hire, then someone needs to calm him down and tell him he doesn't need to rush this hire. Things will be just fine if it takes another week to find the right guy. They also need to tell him that if he does feel the need to hire his mentor then he needs to give him some commemorative title, like special advisor to the HC or something like that, but it should NOT be an actual coaching job.

Just for the record,

On February 1, 2013, DeBord was hired by Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon to be the sports administrator for the school's Olympic sports teams. In this role he works with the field hockey, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's track and field, and men's and women's tennis programs.

I would say that if anything, it would be the opposite of a panic hire. It would be the hire of a coach who's confident about the way things are going and wants to ensure that as little as possible changes. DeBord sure as hell wouldn't be coming in to run the same offense he ran at Michigan 20 years ago, that's for sure.

Then count me as one of the disappointed. I was hoping the bank would be thrown at a big name OC who would come in and inject some dynamics into the offense. Oh well.

I'm right there with you but I knew Tennessee wouldn't throw the bank at anyone. We don't do that.

I don't know if "blame" is the right word, but yeah, I think Bajakian has just been running the offense Butch wants for eight years at three schools. If Butch hires an old friend off the scrap heap that'll just be confirmation that he wants control over the offense. DeBord's job would be to keep things as the same as possible.

This is my theory as well.

I think Butch was hands off with Bajakian calling plays this year, but saw that Jake cost him some games (UF, Mizzou).

Whether he told Jake to leave or Jake left on his own accord, Butch sees it as an opportunity to take full control of the offense.

DeBord will be more of a figurehead/advisor than true OC, and Butch will be more heavily involved in calling plays.

Butch is an idiot if he parted ways with Jake to hire this clown.

No prob....hopefully more people look at it and see DeBord is not as bad as people seem....I'm excited to see him call plays next year

I'm not willing to go that far, but most of that video, mid/late 2000's I guess, all shotgun, 1 back, no back sets, with the QB under center in short yardage situations...

If Josh Dobbs and Co. can have some continuity in terminology without having to reinvent the wheel...well...that would be a good thing imo.

No kidding. If its just s a figurehead then he needs to go out and find a PROVEN topnotch recruiter, not some guy that Michigan only saw fit to give a BS job too. We need a guy that at least has had to recruit since the internet and social media have become a HUGE part of it.

How would receiver recruits look at this? I would think it wouldn't appeal to them at all. Surely there's something else to this if this hire come into fruition.

That's my whole thing with it. Dude can't recruit. Jake could.
