There are 345 basketball teams in Division I. How many of you would rather see our cu

Lord SD. I answered you at the very beginning of the discussion and you called me a mindless thinker.I've stated several times that just to make it to the NCAA would be a major accomplishment for this team.
Anything NIT would be what you, the media and 20% of the board expected from them.
I still believe there's something special about this bunch of kids. And I still think they'll prove all of you wrong and dance.
You keep twisting this! Nobody is saying they don't want them to make the NCAA. That is foolish! I give up, you still won't say whether you would rather see them go one and done or win the NIT championship. Which is your choice? I have found it nowhere and you still weasel around it. I will not ask anymore. I know the answer.

Here is what you did say:
PS
I'll concede if they lose 6 of the next 10.
If these kids win their 3rd road game on tuesday night, and no one is giving them a chance, you won't keep them out of the tournament.
They already have half the resume they need.

Did you know you can click on the numbers on my thread's "phony" poll and see who voted for what? You'll find Calban's name under the NCAA choice.

I've answered you several times and the word dense doesn't begin to describe your powers of perception.
I'd take a one and done in the NCAA tourney every time and twice on Sundays.
You've already given up on this team and conceded an appearance in the NIT. Who's mindless?

Thought my poll was phony?
Actually, you said one and done. I just said make the tourney. Lost about 10% from 20% to 10% on that technicality. But as I have said, you guys were right, I was wrong. I thought it would be about 50/50.

I would rather get blown out in the first round of the NCAA tournament than win the NIT. Now don't get wrong I hope they win every game they play in. The NIT means nothing in the big picture, yeah South Carolina won back to back NIT's but it has done nothing for their basketball program.

Is the answer not abundantly clear, or are you just that dense?
Simply making the NCAA tournament >>>>>>> Anything you could possibly do in the NIT.
I can't believe you would openly campaign for 2nd rate success in an afterthought tournament over the chance to play on the biggest stage in college basketball.
I personally think that winning the NIT would be>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than getting beat in the first round of the tournament which is much more likely if we are a 16 seed going against a 1. It is a mindless statement to say I am campaigning for less success. OK,we make the tournament. Where are we seeded??

We wouldn't be a 16 seed and no matter what you say or think, it doesn't change the fact that just making the NCAA tournament is better than anything someone might accomplish in the NIT.

Mindless statement??? Says the person who believes we'd be a 16-seed. Pardon me while I have a good laugh at that.

Without even looking it up, I'm going to guess that no Power 5 conference team has EVER been a 16 seed, and I'd say the absolute lowest we would be is a 12-13 seed based on the history of the NCAA Tournament since the expansion to 64 teams. The committee just doesn't give Power 5 teams from multi-bid conferences severely low seeds. Those are reserved for automatic qualifiers from low-profile, 1-bid conferences.

You really have no clue how any of this works do you? I feel like I'm explaining this to an 8 year old.

Have you given up on Tyndall?
We're going to be in every game we play and the reason, Tyndall's defense.
This bunch of scruffs is the hardest team in D1 ball to score the 2pt shot on. We're #1 in 2pt defense.
We are winning the scoring battle in the paint by 10.8 points a game.
We've lost that battle 4 times this season and still won 2 of those games.
Most think we're getting beat up on the boards. Untrue.
Why? Tyndall. He DEMANDS that ALL of his players rebound the ball.
Where will we be seeded? Anywhere from a 5 to a play in.

Not sure you understood that post.
In a Sunday discussion SD was calling all of us who chose an NCAA appearance over an NIT trophy mindless thinkers.
I told him to make a poll.
I thought more than 93% (at the time I posted) would have chosen the NCAA.
That would make the 93% who chose the NCAA mindless thinkers in SD's book. Fools was my rendition.

I'm with you. I was referring to the fact that SD keeps talking about the NIT being teams 69-90, which it is not. It's 69-100. 68+32=100. He's posted it multiple times so it's not a typo it's him being unable to do simple math (or I guess considering him maybe he doesn't know that there are 32 teams in the NIT)

32 teams and they are really not ranked 69-100. Many of the teams are ranked higher than the teams in the NCAA tournament. I really don't understand downplaying winning a national tournament with 32 very good teams in it. But who am I to question? Just a guy who loves stats and this one is undeniable to me.

This entire post was great but the bolded part deserves special attention. I think you've hit the nail on the head. I gave you a like as well since I know how important LPP are these days.

I don't understand the obsession with the NIT.
I'll be glad to discuss NIT if we don't have 17 wins going into the Vandy game Feb 26.
I still think we have a shot with this defense.

I'm with you there too. Winning the NIT means you've already failed. It's like getting excited for the USA to win the bronze metal game at the Olympics.

Here's a little insight into the significance of winning the NIT!

How is this prove any significance or is it any kind of insight?

This is a totally different question. Let's clarify it a little more. Since all the top teams are in the NCAA, would it be possible for the 2014-15 Vols to win the NIT? We have no national post season tournament banners in TBA for men's basketball. They are all women's. Could these Vols win the NIT and get us one?

If we hang the Banner, does it have to have an asterisk

I know many of you are better followers than I am, but without Google, tell me who won the NIT last year.

p.s. if we go I want to win. if we go I don't want to lose.

NATIONAL. Look in the arena tonight. South Carolina has two they are very proud of!

WTF are you even talking about? You said no postseason tournament banners in our arena.

And you have yet to give any evidence that those 2 NIT Championships helped that program in any way. Every time you get called out you backtrack and change your so called point.

Isn't St John's the king of the NIT? 6 or 7 titles.
I'd take one NCAA championship game(win or lose) to all 6.
Even 3 more sweet 16s would be better. To SD, I guess that's settling though.

First of all, saying you'd rather win the NIT instead of going to the NCAAT and losing the first game IS saying you don't want them to make the NCAAT.

Second he and others have answered your question about 3-4 times now, yet you somehow refuse to accept it.

Probably. I think it's funny he keeps posting stuff like this and Wiki links acting like it's proving his point, yet it's just information.

You have to be quite naive to think that I would think we've never won a post season tournament. That's what I'm talking about when I say some don't think very deeply.
If you think that winning a national tournament with 32 of the top 100 not ranked 69-100 but generally top 100 is significant then more power to you. Many of these teams in last year's tourney were top 40.
